Abstract

In recent years, development of hydrogel that combines biocompatibility, pH responsive and mechanical performance has attracted the attention of researchers. A novel biocompatible hydrogel, composed of P(TM co SA) and P(TM co CAA) was synthesized by a simple admixture and heating process. The results show that with increasing levels of SA-CAA monomer concentration, an increase in tensile strength and elongation at breakpoint was observed and optimal at the ratios P(TM co SA CAA). Tensile strenght and young’s modulus registered an impressive increase of 43% and 40% respectively. These improvements are attributed to strong synergistic hydrogen bonding interactions between the TM and SA-CAA chains. During the experiment, maximum increase in weight was also achieved at pH 10 NaOH solution, it is show the pH-responsive hydrogels. The investigation of P(TM co SA-CAA) hydrogel mechanism showed that more homogenous dispersed through crosslinks dominated by β-sheets from Amide I structures. Furthermore, the SA-CAA molecules contributed to the biocompatibility, pH responsive and mechanical performance of P(TM co SA-CAA) hydrogels. Conclusively, its P(TM co SA-CAA) hydrogels clearly demonstrated the relevance of the provide a bioresponsive material for biomedical applications, such as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and pH-sensitive drug delivery.

Abstract

The stripping gas from the ammonia stripper still shows fluctuating ammonia (NH₃) content and, under certain conditions, has the potential to exceed the targeted limit. This study discusses the evaluation of the ammonia stripper output gas and efforts to reduce NH₃ levels by adding a scrubber unit as a further treatment using Aspen HYSYS V.11 simulation. However, previous studies have primarily focused on ammonia removal within the stripper unit under steady-state conditions, with limited investigation into the integration of scrubber systems to handle fluctuating industrial wastewater and steam flow conditions. Operational performance was evaluated using industrial data collected during August 6–10, 2025, by calculating NH₃ removal efficiency based on inlet–outlet concentrations, followed by Aspen HYSYS simulation using the Extended NRTL model to analyze the effect of wastewater flow rate and assess the optimization process through scrubber integration. The evaluation results show that before the addition of the scrubber, the NH₃ reduction efficiency in the ammonia stripper was in the range of 87.78–96.34% with an average value of 92.97%, but under conditions of high wastewater discharge, the NH₃ concentration in the stripping gas still increased. Scrubber integration simulations showed that the NH₃ concentration in the stripper exhaust gas decreased from 3.21% to 0.96%, equivalent to a reduction of approximately 70%, indicating significant emission optimization. These results indicate that the addition of a scrubber to the stripped gas is an effective alternative to control NH₃ emissions.

Abstract

Weather event classification in a region is very important for various purposes, such as in the fields of transportation, health, agriculture, and others. Lahat has varying land elevations ranging from 26-106 meters above sea level in the East Merapi sub-district to 341-3032 meters above sea level in the Tanjung Sakti Pumi sub-district. It greatly affects local temperature, rainfall, and atmospheric pressure, which in turn affects the distribution of weather patterns and disasters such as floods. KNN is a prediction method that uses the concept of distance for a number of k nearest observations in determining the similarity between observations. Several metrics can be used for this prediction purpose. This study aims to predict weather events in Lahat Regency using the KNN method with several different distance metrics and then compare them to obtain the performance of the KNN prediction method. The results show that the Euclidean distance metric used in the KNN method has a better performance measurement, followed by the Manhattan and Minkowski metrics. In the Euclidean metric, the accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, AUC, and MC value are 92.69%, 88.21%, 85.81%, 86.99%, 88.99%, and 76.37%, respectively.
