Abstract

Abstract

This study examines strategies for improving professional competence of elementary school teachers in Merauke Regency, a remote region in Papua Province, Indonesia. The research aims to analyze professional development programs, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and formulate effective strategies for teacher competence enhancement in geographically challenging contexts. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving three elementary schools: SD Inpres Mopah Baru, SD Inpres Mangga Dua, and SD Advent Merauke. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 44 teachers and 3 school principals, direct observations of school facilities and teaching practices, and document analysis of training records and teacher qualifications. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman's interactive model, incorporating data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing with triangulation to ensure credibility. Results revealed that professional development programs focus on teacher certification, continuing education, and training participation facilitated by school leadership. Key supporting factors include adequate baseline qualifications, active principal leadership, and collaborative learning cultures. However, significant barriers include limited budgets, time constraints from heavy workloads, inadequate technology infrastructure, and misalignment between teacher specializations and teaching assignments. Schools implemented adaptive strategies combining formal training opportunities with peer mentoring and collaborative learning to overcome resource constraints. The study contributes empirical evidence on teacher professional development in 3T regions and suggests that effective strategies must be context-specific, integrating flexible delivery modes, sustained support mechanisms, and infrastructure investments while leveraging collaborative professional cultures inherent in remote school settings.

Abstract

Digital transformation in educational management demands a more adaptive, accurate, and data-driven evaluation system. Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds great potential to transform learning evaluation from a mere academic assessment to a strategic tool for institutional decision-making. This article aims to explore the role of AI in educational evaluation and managerial strategies required for its adaptive and contextual adoption. Using a qualitative literature review approach from accredited journal sources, the study finds that AI has been implemented in various forms such as computerized adaptive testing, NLP-based essay scoring, student character monitoring, and predictive decision-support systems. However, structural barriers such as limited infrastructure, low digital competence, and lack of technical regulation hinder widespread adoption. Effective managerial strategies must include digital leadership, structured implementation roadmaps, data literacy, ethical governance, and locally participatory approaches. The article concludes that AI integration in learning evaluation must be guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) frameworks to truly enhance education quality.

Abstract

This study investigates (1) the feasibility of a structural model using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and (2) the relationships among teachers’ experiences in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile (P5), their readiness to apply Deep Learning (DL), and efforts to achieve School Well-Being (SWB). The participants were 99 public and private elementary and junior high school teachers from the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java, selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale. The instrument was developed using a formative approach, with content validity assessed by two experts, while construct validity and reliability were examined through the SEM-PLS outer model. The results show that the proposed structural model demonstrates an excellent goodness of fit (SRMR = 0.048). The model explains DL Readiness at a weak-to-moderate level (R² = 0.245) and SWB at a very strong level (R² = 0.753). Teachers’ experience in implementing P5 has a significant positive effect on their readiness to apply DL. In turn, DL Readiness has a very strong and significant effect on efforts to achieve SWB. However, teachers’ P5 implementation experience does not have a direct significant effect on SWB. Further analysis confirms a significant indirect effect, indicating full mediation through DL Readiness. Effect size analysis reinforces these findings, highlighting DL Readiness as the dominant predictor of SWB. Overall, the study suggests that SWB is primarily shaped by teachers’ readiness to implement DL practices rather than by P5 implementation experience only.
