Abstract

Self-efficacy intervention in curriculum design is an effort to improve the quality of teaching practice for pre-service teachers. This research aims to redefine how pre-service teachers' self-efficacy changes through Physics Learning and Microteaching courses. Interventions are given by designing lectures with mastery of knowledge, guidance, teaching experience, and reflection on teaching experience. The intervention carried out 32 meetings (with a total of 67 hours) in 1 semester. The data collection techniques used a questionnaire consisting of 18 statements and reasons for giving the score through pre-test, mid-test, and post-test. The participants were 51 students in teacher education institutions in Indonesia. The results show that integrating activities such as delivering information about PCK, guidance, and their experience in teaching increased their self-efficacy. Still, their self-efficacy decreased after the teaching experience and reflection on their experience. These results recommend that teaching practice reflection activities should not be the last resort in improving students' self-efficacy. Providing information, guidance, teaching practice, and reflection should become an iterative process, where self-reflection notes as a tool to enhance their performance deficiencies and self-efficacy can be improved

Abstract

Climate change in the 21st century has become the primary concern of all the countries' leaders, including Indonesia. In education, learning related to climate change needs special attention not only on the knowledge aspect but also on the attitudes and behavior of students. East Kalimantan is one of the provinces in Indonesia, and the Indonesian government does expect it to be the new nation's capital. This research is descriptive analysis research. This research aims to determine students' level of climate literacy in aspects of basic knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. The survey does conduct on 240 students of grade 12th students from eight different schools in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The sampling technique is stratified random sampling. The research instrument used was a questionnaire divided into three aspects: basic knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. In the basic knowledge aspect, the questionnaire consists of 15 questions with a Guttman scale (true-false). Each questionnaire consists of 10 statements with a Likert scale in attitude and behavior. The results showed that students' level of climate literacy in the basic knowledge aspect was only in the sufficient category, and the attitude and behavior aspects were in the high category. Although, in general, the level of student climate literacy in the aspects of attitude and behavior is in the high category, there are still some students classified at the low level. We conclude that students' climate literacy still needs to be improved in terms of basic knowledge and aspects of attitude and behavior to prevent the future negative impacts of climate change.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores how preservice physics teachers think about the role that scientists play in the teaching and learning of physics. Our participants were 33 preservice physics teachers in their first year participating in a scientist partnership program through online meetings. Participants' responses were collected through an essay questionnaire, and the result was analyzed with co-occurrence network analysis. Our research shows that preservice physics teachers have a positive perspective on scientists. The primary role of a scientist is related to a person with sufficient knowledge and opinion about physics. Their role is also related to the experiment and research result. Moreover, their innovation and discovery of new physics-related things also became their central role. After preservice physics teachers interact with scientists, they have higher motivation to learn physics. Our findings suggest that the activity facilitating interaction with professional scientists must be encouraged during the preservice physics teacher program.
