Abstract

Abstract

Biomaterials are materials that interact with living tissues for the purpose of treating and replacing tissues either temporarily or permanently. Biomaterials can be developed from hydroxyapatite-based materials. The source of calcium for the manufacture of hydroxyapatite is obtained from oyster shell waste (Crassostrea gigas) from the waters of Alue Naga Banda Aceh. The purpose of this study was to examine the opportunity to utilize oyster shell waste as a source of calcium for hydroxyapatite synthesis. The hydroxyapatite synthesis process was carried out by calcining oyster shells at a temperature of 10000C for 5 hours to obtain calcium oxide (CaO) content. Then, the CaO powder was reacted with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) to obtain hydroxyapatite compound (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) and then sintered at 900C for 2 hours. Analysis of CaO and hydroxyapatite phases was carried out through XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) characterization results. Surface morphology and element content were obtained from SEM-EDS characterization. Based on the analysis, CaO and hydroxyapatite phases have been successfully formed and the surface morphology of hydroxyapatite crystal structure is not clearly visible because of the formation of agglomeration. Based on the elemental content test, the ideal Ca/P ratio has not been obtained. Based on the results of the research, oyster shell waste (Crassostrea gigas) from the waters of Alue Naga, in Syiah Kuala District, Banda Aceh City has the opportunity to be utilized as a source of calcium in hydroxyapatite synthesis and can be developed as a biomaterial.

Abstract

Empowerment of people with disabilities through the transfer of biofloc shrimp farming technology in the city of Banda Aceh is a program aimed at enhancing the independence and empowerment of people with disabilities. Biofloc shrimp farming is a technology that utilizes a biofloc system, where bacteria are used to break down waste and provide nutrients for the shrimp. In this system, shrimp can grow faster and healthier compared to conventional shrimp farming methods. The program is in partnership with the Imam Ahmad bin Idris Aceh Foundation located in the village of Alue Naga and will be implemented from August to November 2023. The training will cover the construction of the tank, water management, feeding, shrimp maintenance, and harvesting methods. Additionally, the program will provide initial capital assistance to start biofloc shrimp farming businesses. This program aims to enable people with disabilities to achieve better income and improve their self-reliance. Furthermore, it is expected to increase biofloc shrimp production in the city of Banda Aceh, thereby enhancing the local economy.

Abstract

The objectives of this community service implementation are; provide information to the public how to make fish feed that is cheap, easy, and environmentally friendly so that people do not have trouble getting fish feed raw materials. Community Service in the Holistic Village Development and Guidance Program (PHP2D) was carried out in Dham Pulo Village (Gampong), Want Jaya District, Aceh Besar District, from August to December 2021. The general stages of this activity consist of 4 (four) stages main activities, namely: socialization and training on maggot organic feed technology, independent bioconversion-based organic feed manufacturing practices, training on digitalization of marketing fishery products, websites and social media and evaluation in the form of workshops or FGDs involving all stakeholders such as the village government, fisheries service and private agencies. . The results obtained from this activity are the information obtained regarding the technology of maggot cultivation independently as a substitute for catfish feed. The conclusion of this PHP2D activity is that the community can increase their skills in maggot cultivation techniques (Hermetia Illucens) independently which can be used as an alternative to pellets as fish feed.
