Abstract

Plastics become the biggest environmental problem when it accumulate in landfills because its non-biodegradable properties. To handle the problems, the plastics were processed to produce liquid fuels by means pyrolysis method which was in this case with and without a catalyst. In this work, polypropylene was used as a precursor and SiO2, zeolites, CaO, Fe as catalysts. FTIR spectrum of pyrolized polypropylene with and without catalysts both have shown C = C functional group at 1648 cm-1. GCMS analysis confirmed the availability of chain length of hydrocarbon between C7 -C27 which is mixture of kerosene and diesel fractions. Catalysts can lower the temperature and time reaction of pyrolysis process as they increase rendement (%) of product. Liquid fuels that produced from polypropylene pyrolysis without catalyst was 72.06%, and with catalysts were 79.59% (SiO2), 74.76%, (zeolite), 76.80% (CaO), and 76.83% (Fe).

Abstract

Bioplastics are bio-based plastics from natural resources, made to replace conventional plastics. The utilization of biopolymers in bioplastics provide a faster degradation compared to petroleum-based plastics. Starch-based bioplastic from mixing Durio zibethinus Murr starch and glycerol as plasticizer have been conducted. In this research, the concentration of glycerol has been varied to study the effect on starch-based bioplastics mechanical properties. The tensile strength for Durio zibethinus Murr starch-based bioplastic with 20% glycerol was 50.28 MPa with 13.3% elongation. The functional group found on the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra indicated the presence of O-H stretch, C-H stretch, C=O stretch, and C-O stretch which stated the formation of bioplastic. The image results gained from scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed that the morphology surface of bioplastic was less homogenous and rough. The soil burial test for biodegradability showed Durio zibethinus Murr starch-based bioplastic achieved 38.9% weight loss in a 5-day observation.

Abstract

Pituah Paikek's work is a dance work that departs from the Malam Bainai culture in West Sumatra. The idea of creation focuses on the philosophical meaning of the henna on the bride's nails. The formulation of the creation of Piuah Paikek's work is how to interpret the meaning and symbols of the bride's bainai nails into a dance work. The purpose of this dance work is to present the experience of the Bainai Night rite of passage into a contemporary dance form with a dramatic type. The creation methods used include: research, exploration, improvisation, formation and evaluation. The creation of this Pituah Paikek dance work produces a dance work that has three parts, namely: the first part is a symbolic representation of the Bainai activity, the second part is a symbolic representation of the meaning of the finger and the third part is an affirmation of each value of the Bainai finger.Keywords: pituah paikek, malam baianai, contemporary. AbstrakKarya Pituah Paikek adalah karya tari yang berangkat dari budaya Malam Bainai di Sumatera Barat. Ide penciptaan berfokus kepada makna filosofis dari inai di kuku calon pengantin wanita. Rumusan penciptaan dari karya Piuah Paikek ini adalah bagaimana menginterpretasikan makna dan simbol dari kuku bainai calon pengantin wanita menjadi sebuah karya tari. Tujuan dari karya tari ini adalah menampilkan pengalaman dari ritus peralihan Malam Bainai ke dalam bentuk tari kontemporer dengan tipe dramatik. Metode penciptaan yang digunakan, antara lain: riset, eksplorasi, improvisasi, pembentukan dan evaluasi. Abstract

Pada penelitian ini, kami melaporkan bahwa komposit Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)/karet alam siklis(KAS)/precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) telah berhasil diperoleh melalui metode sistem pelarut. Penelitian inibertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan gugus fungsi dengan fourier transform infrared (FTIR) dan mengkarakterisasisifat morfologinya dengan scanning elctron microscope (SEM) pada komposit LLDPE/KAS/PCC. Komposit ini dibuatmelalui metode pencampuran dengan sistem pelarut dengan adanya kompatibiliser LLDPE-g-AO. LLDPE, KAS, danLLDPE-g-AO dimasukkan secara bersama-sama ke dalam gelas beaker yang berisi pelarut xylene sebanyak 100 mL,diaduk hingga larut pada suhu 140 oC, lalu ditambahkan dengan bahan pengisi PCC sambil diaduk selama 10 menitagar PCC terdispersi merata. Hasil spektrum FTIR komposit polimer menunjukkan bahwa pita khas dari PCC terlihatpada daerah 872,1 cm-1. Hasil morfologi dengan SEM menunjukkan adanya perubahan signifikan pada strukturpermukaan pada komposit polimer setelah penambahan bahan pengisi PCC.Kata kunci : Komposit, PCC, LLDPE, KAS, Sistem Pelarut.

Abstract

Seberang Padang Village, South Padang District, is next to Padang City, which has approximately 200 families. This location is a crossing area between Padang-Painan, in West Sumatra. The community consists of two existing traditional markets that sell daily necessities. Besides that, there is also one elementary school, two junior high schools, and one high school. The global Covid-19 pandemic certainly affects the community's daily activities and learning activities, including children, elementary school students, middle and high school students, and the village community to fulfil their basic needs. Furthermore, the main problem of Covid-19 is not only about the effects caused by the virus on sufferers but also about its high-speed transmission. Therefore, to educate the community around the Seberang Padang village, several Chemistry Lecturers and students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Andalas University did a community engagement. They taught the community about making disinfectants and hand sanitizers without alcohol that can overcome the occurrence of Covid-19 transmission. In addition, face masks were provided for the community, and the alms of food for underprivileged residents to push down the negative impact of Covid-19.

Abstract

Permetrin merupakan golongan insektisida piretroid sintetik yang kurang toksik bagi mamalia tapi sangat toksik bagi ikan, serangga dan mikroorganisme air Penelitian tentang degradasi senyawa permetrin telah dilakukan dengan menggunakan zeolit alam terpilar TiO2-anatase secara sonolisis pada beberapa kondisi perlakuan.. Degradasi dilakukan secara sonolisis menggunakan gelombang ultrasonik dengan frekuensi 45 KHz. Sampel yang digunakan adalah permetrin 96,1%. Sedangkan zeolit alam terpilar TiO2-anatase digunakan sebagai katalis untuk membantu degradasi secara cepat dan efisien. Hasil iradiasi dianalisis dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV pada panjang gelombang 272 nm. Degradasi permetrin 20mg/L pada suhu 40oC dan waktu iradiasi 120 menit, tanpa penambahan zeolit alam terpilar TiO2- anatase mencapai 22,23%. Sedangkan degradasi permetrin 20 mg/L pada suhu 40oC dan waktu iradiasi 75 menit dengan penambahan 50 mg zeolit alam terpilar TiO2- anatase menghasilkan 81,10 %.

Abstract

Kalsium fosfat telah menjadi perhatian yang menarik dalam bidang medis dan kedokteran karena biocompatibilitynya yang baik dan struktur serta komposisi kimianya yang sama dengan fasa mineral jaringan keras manusia (tulang dan gigi). Penelitian ini difoukuskan untuk mempelajari faktor yang mempengaruhi morfologi dan komposisi fasa dari senyawa hydroxyapatite dengan menggunakan prekusor diammonium hydrogen phosphate sebagai sumber fosfat serta pengaruh kalsinasi pada suhu 200, 400, 600, 800 dan 1000oC. Produk hidroxyapatite yang dihasilkan dikarakterisasi dengan FTIR, XRD, SEM dan TGA. Hidroxyapatite yang dihasilkan dengan variasi suhu kalsinasi mempengaruhi morfologi dan komposisi fasa dari senyawa kalsium fosfat yang dihasilkan. Fasa yang terbentuk sebelum sampel powder fosfat dikalsinasi dengan (NH4)2HPO4 sebagai sumber fosfat adalah Ca2P2O7.2H2O dengan ukuran kristal 67 nm. Ketika sampel powder kalsium fosfat dikalsinasi pada temperatur 600˚C fasa yang terbentuk dengan menggunakan (NH4)2HPO4 sebagai sumber fosfat adalah hydroxiapatite (HAP) dengan ukuran kristal 8,66 nm Dan ketika sampel dikalsinasi pada temperatur 1000˚C fasa yang dihasilkan yaitu Ca2P2O7 dan Ca3(PO4)2.

Abstract

Biodiesel constitutes an alternative to diesel fuel, developing a base catalyst in cost efficiency and reducing the impact on the environment due to toxic waste and excessive chemicals. This study employed a mixture of an oxide catalyst, CaO/TiO2, which was ably synthesized as a heterogeneous catalyst to convert waste frying oil (WFO) into biodiesel. Heterogeneous catalysts have been characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TEM, SEM-EDX, and BET to identify their crystal type, morphology, composition, and surface area. Catalytic activity was affected by the amount, oil/methanol ratio, reaction temperature, and duration. A 94% biodiesel yield was achieved by optimizing the following reaction parameters: 5wt.%, 6:1 methanol: oil, 65 °C, for 4 h. The addition of TiO2 to CaO improves the catalyst stability and transforms the reactants into products. The structure and characteristics of TiO2 maintained stability and supported CaO well. Its repeated biodiesel fuel production demonstrated the catalyst stability from WFO throughout the transesterification reaction.

Abstract

The addition of LLDPE-g-MA into the compound of sago starch/LLDPE was studied to improve its mechanical, morphology, degradation performance, and water absorption properties. Thermoplastic Sago Starch was composed of a mixture of sago starch and glycerol. LLDPE-g-MA was prepared in varied concentrations based on the weight of TPSS (0, 6, 8, 10, and 14 wt.%) by reacting LLDPE, maleic anhydride, and benzoyl peroxide using an internal mixer. The results showed an increase in values obtained from mechanical tests, i.e., tensile strength was improved from 0.6902 to 3.6187 N/mm2 with the addition of LLDPE-g-MA at 10 wt.%. The addition also resulted in a 1.44% increment in elongation at break and 251 N/mm2 for Young's Modulus. The surface morphology of the sample demonstrated an excellent interfacial adhesion reaction or LLDPE dispersion over the entire surface of the matrix (starch). The water absorption test continued to decrease with the increase in the LLDPE-g-MA concentration from 53 wt.% (without LLDPE-g-MA) to 14 wt.% at 10 wt.% LLDPE-g-MA concentration. The degradation performance showed that the sample could be degraded under all three conditions for up to 30 days.

Abstract

This study investigates the improvement of the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE)/cyclic natural rubber (CNR) after the addition of organo-precipitated calcium carbonate (O-PCC). The impact on the properties of the LLDPE/CNR/LLDPE-g-OA/O-PCC composites was investigated by a series of empirical experiments. First, the polymer composite was blended in the molten state using an internal mixer with a heating temperature of 160 °C and a rotation speed of 100 rpm. The LLDPE was placed in a chamber of internal mixer until melted, followed by CNR, LLDPE-g-OA, and O-PCC. The polymer composites with an O-PCC concentration of 5% obtained the optimal mechanical properties compared to other variations, with a tensile strength of 17.17 MPa and Young's modulus of 252.68 MPa. The presence of O-PCC resulted in better thermal stability and a change in the melting point temperature of 124 °C. The FTIR spectra of the polymer composite showed the specific characteristics of O-PCC at 872.1 cm–1. The morphology of the polymer composite indicates that the O-PCC is evenly dispersed in the polymer composite.
