Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas tentang discourse dan kepentingan dari power dominan dalam sebuah drama karangan William Shakespeare yang berjudul Othello. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana drama Othello di pengaruhi oleh kuasa pengetahuan atau doktrin terutama pada zaman kekuasaan ratu Elizabeth. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan mendeskripsikan adanya kepentingan kuasa pengetahuan dalam drama Othello berdasarkan pendekatan New Historicism dan mengaplikasikan teori Michel Foucault yaitu kekuasaan dan pengetahuan. Dalam teorinya Foucault menjelaskan tentang adanya wacana pengetahuan atau dokrin yang digunakan oleh penguasa dalam tatanan kehidupan sosial masyarakat. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa disetiap aspek sosial membawa kepentingan dari sebuah power dominant termasuk karya sastra. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ditemukan bahwa di dalam drama Othello terdapat banyak membawa discourses dan dokrin terutama kepentingan kekuasan pada masa Elizabeth.

Abstract

Focus study in study This is analyze empowerment and policy economy Woman mainland through development Home Industry (IRT) in Nagari Sungai Cubadak , Baso District , Agam Regency . Theories used in research This is theory theory Adoption Innovation proposed by Rogers and Shoemaker (1971). Study This use approach qualitative with the data analysis process using thinking from Miles and Huberman. Data collection methods were carried out in several ways, namely participant observation, interviews and document study. This research focuses on mainland women through the development of Home Industries (IRT). The results of this research show that the form of empowerment carried out by the West Sumatra Province DP3AP2KB Service is providing awareness of the potential of nagari, carrying out technical guidance, forming women's groups through home industries and facilitating the development of home industry products produced. The form of policy carried out by the West Sumatra Province DP3AP2KB Service is planning-based policy, establishing management in developing mainland women's households and implementing mainland women's programs

Abstract

This study aims to explore the utilization of linguistic landscape (LL) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. This study adopts a qualitative descriptive  approach, also referred to as a theoretical review. This study examines various perspectives from relevant literature to gain deeper insights into the utilization of LL in educational contexts. The method employed involves a comparative analysis of previous LL research. The primary sources for this study include research reports, journal articles, books, and other scholarly works that explore LL as a linguistic, social, and educational phenomenon. The findings of this research highlight several key concepts and strategies that can be applied to enhance the use of LL in EFL learning. Furthermore, the results indicate that integrating LL into EFL instruction provides an authentic and contextual approach, enabling learners to develop various language skills, including: mastery of English vocabulary, comprehensive reading ability, awareness of multilingualism, understanding of social, cultural, and economic contexts, as well as the ability to conduct critical discourse analysis.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketertarikan peneliti terhadap penggunaan lanskap linguistik dalam bahasa Inggris di SMAN 10. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lanskap linguistik terhadap kosa kata siswa. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif, dengan sampel 100 siswa kelas 10, 11, dan 12 SMA Negeri 10 Padang. Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode Random Sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner dengan Skala Guttman. Metode analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis regresi sederhana dengan aplikasi SPSS Versi 22.0. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, secara umum Linguistik Lansekap berpengaruh terhadap kosa kata, meskipun masih ada sebagian kecil LL di SMA Negeri 10 Kota Padang yang tidak berpengaruh terhadap kosa kata siswa. Hasil penelitian ini tidak ditujukan untuk semua lanskap linguistik di tempat umum karena tes LL dalam penelitian ini hanya dilakukan di satu sekolah.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan nilai pendidikan karakter berdasarkan Kurikulum Merdeka dengan Dimensi Beriman,Bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dan Berakhlak Mulia, untuk mengetahui apakah buku teks “Bahasa Inggris” terbitan 2016 masih relevan digunakan didalam kurikulum merdeka. Penelitian ini di desain sebagai penelitian Deskriptif Kualitatif yang menggunakan buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Ingris” sebagai sumber data. Peneliti menggunakan document checklist sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data, guna menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data konten yang terdapat didalam buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris” terbitan 2016 tidak memenuhi semua indicator dalam pendidikan karakter berdasarkan kurikulum merdeka dengan dimensi beriman, bertaqwa serta berahlak mulia. Terdapat lima unsur kepada Tuhan yang Maha Esa yakni Akhlak beragama, diri sendiri, manusia, alam serta benegara. Hasil aalisis menunjukkan bahwa elemen akhlak beragama terdapat pada subelemen melaksanakan ritual ibadah, namun tidak terdapat pada sub unsur mengenal dan mencintai Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dan pemahaman agama/kepercayaan. Elemen akhlak pribadi terdapat pada subelemen integritas, tetapi tidak terdapat pada subelemen merawat diri baik jasmani, rohani, dan rohani.pada elemen akhlak terhadap manusia terdapat pada seluruh subelemen beserta indikatornya. Pada elemen akhlak terhadap alam terdapat pada seluruh sub elemen namun tidak memenuhi seluruh indikator. Pada Elemen akhlak beragama ditemukan pada subelemen menjalankan kewajiban sebagai warga negara Indonesia tidak terdapat pada hak sebagai warga negara Indonesia. Dari hasil ini, disimpulkan bahwa buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris” terbitan 2016 tidak memenuhi standar pendidikan karakter dalam kurikulum merdeka.

Abstract

This study aims to examine students’ perceptions of using ChatGPT in learning academic vocabulary. The research was conducted among English Education students at Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat, class of 2024, who have used ChatGPT in the Academic Vocabulary course. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through semi-structured interviews with 4 students who were selected purposively. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis based on four indicators: emotions, past experiences, personal values, and social influences. The findings indicate that the majority of students hold positive perceptions toward ChatGPT, as it is considered to facilitate material comprehension, enhance learning motivation, and boost self-confidence. However, some respondents also expressed concerns regarding potential dependency and the limitations of the language style used by ChatGPT. These findings suggest that ChatGPT can serve as an effective learning medium in supporting academic vocabulary acquisition, provided it is used critically and in a balanced manner. This research offers new insights into the integration of AI in language learning and serves as a foundation for developing more adaptive and reflective technology-based learning strategies.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki minat siswa terhadap strategi guru dalam mengajar Bahasa Inggris. Menyadari peran penting strategi pengajaran dalam mendorong keterlibatan siswa, penelitian ini berupaya untuk menentukan bagaimana berbagai pendekatan pengajaran memengaruhi antusiasme dan motivasi siswa di kelas Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif, dengan menggunakan kuesioner survey sebagai instrumen utama pengumpulan data. Sebanyak 15 siswa dipilih secara acak dari SMA N 4 Solok Selatan. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif untuk mengidentifikasi tingkat minat siswa dan respons mereka terhadap berbagai strategi pengajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagai besar siswa menunjukkan minat yang tinggi ketika guru menggunakan strategi interaktif dan berpusat pada siswa, seperti diskusi kelompok, permainan, dan perangkat multimedia. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pilihan strategi pengajaran secara signifikan mempengaruhi keterlibatan siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Guru Bahasa Inggris mengadopsi strategi yang lebih dinamis dan bervariasi untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan minat siswa dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the researcher's interest in the use of linguistics landscape in English at SMAN 10. This research aims to determine the effect of linguistics landscape on students' vocabulary. In this study, the researcher used quantitative research, with a sample of 100 students from grades 10, 11, and 12 of SMA N 10 Padang. The sampling technique in this study used the Random Sampling method. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire with the Guttman Scale. The analytical method used in this study is a simple regression analysis method with the SPSS Version 22.0 application. Based on the research results, in general, Landscape Linguistics affects vocabulary, although there are still a small number of LL in SMA Negeri 10 Padang City that do not affect student vocabulary. The results of this study are not intended for all linguistics landscapes in public places because the LL test in this study was only in one school. Keywords: Effect Linguistics Landscape, Vocabulary

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of Teacher Talk used by the teacher and the corresponding student responses in the Hospitality and Tourism Department of grade X at SMK N 1 Solok Selatan. By understanding the types of Teacher Talk and student responses, this research is expected to provide useful insights to improve the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This research is a Qualitative Descriptive study. The writer investigated two teachers and their students from class X Hospitality 1 and class X Hospitality 2, selected using total sampling techniques. An observation sheet was used as the research instrument. The results showed that English teacher (A) used indirect teacher talk, including accepting learner feelings, praising or encouraging learners, accepting or using learner ideas, and asking questions, as well as direct teacher talk, including lecturing, giving directions, and criticizing or justifying authorities. Meanwhile, English teacher (B) also used indirect teacher talk, including accepting or using learner ideas and asking questions, as well as direct teacher talk, including lecturing, giving directions, and criticizing or justifying authorities. Additionally, students responded with student talk responses and student talk initiation, and silence.Keywords: Teacher talk, Direct teacher talk, Indirect Teacher talk, Student responses
