Abstract

This study aims to analyze violations of the Indonesian Advertising Ethics (EPI) in the advertisements of K Natural White and Buavita products broadcast on television. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using observation and documentation approaches to identify and analyze advertising content that breaches ethical principles. The findings reveal that the K Natural White advertisement violates the EPI clause on honesty due to claims such as "anti-aging" and "rich in natural antioxidants" that lack valid scientific evidence, while the statement "dermatologically tested" requires further transparency. Meanwhile, the Buavita advertisement breaches the same principle with claims like "100% vitamin C" and "pure fruit," which are inconsistent with the product's actual composition. These findings indicate that EPI violations in advertisements can influence consumer perceptions and create unrealistic expectations. Therefore, compliance with the Indonesian Advertising Ethics is essential to maintain consumer trust and protection.

Abstract

This study explores the construction of communication identity within the “Pasukan Babi Neraka” metal music fan community in Surakarta through a qualitative case study using ethnographic methods. Data were collected via participant observation and in-depth interviews with five active members. The analysis applies Michael Hecht’s Communication Theory of Identity (CTI), which comprises four layers: personal, enactment, relational, and communal. The findings reveal that personal identity is shaped by emotional connections to metal music and individual meaning-making. The enactment layer is reflected in expressions of identity through physical attributes, social media activity, and participation in community events. The relational layer emerges from solidarity, emotional support, and interpersonal interactions that foster a sense of family. The communal layer is seen in collective actions such as charity concerts and local cultural promotions that strengthen group identity. These layers interact dynamically through interpenetration, demonstrating that metalhead identity is not monolithic but fluid and responsive to social contexts. This study affirms that metal fan communities are not deviant subcultures, but rather spaces of meaningful cultural expression, social solidarity, and resistance to stigma. Metal music and popular culture function as central mediums in constructing complex identities across both digital and physical spaces.

Abstract

The problem in this study focuses on verbal and non-verbal violence that appears in the Main Hakim Sendiri program on NET in the Ramadhan period (March 13-22, 2024). Along with the increasing competition between television stations, some programs, including those aired during the month of Ramadan, often present sensational content containing elements of violence. This study uses a descriptive content analysis method with a quantitative approach to measure the frequency of violence that occurs in these shows. The results of this study found that verbal violence was more dominant than non-verbal violence in the “Main Hakim Sendiri” program aired during Ramadan 2024, with percentages of 52% and 47% respectively. The most common form of verbal violence is cursing, followed by mentioning with negative connotations, mockery, and insults. Meanwhile, non-verbal violence most often appeared in the form of hitting, throwing things, and pushing. Other findings show fluctuations in the intensity of violence in each episode, with the peak of violent incidents occurring on March 14, 2024. The dominance of verbal violence in this program reflects a pattern of using aggressive language to create conflict and attract audience attention, which has the potential to normalize aggressive behavior in society, especially for young audiences who are still in the character building stage.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the stereotypical representation of male masculinity in interclass relations shown in Total Care advertisements. This topic was chosen because advertisements have a significant impact on people's perceptions of gender and social class. The research method used was to collect data from various Total Care advertisements aired in the mass media and conduct qualitative analysis with a semiotic approach. The research shows that these advertisements tend to portray strong and dominant masculinity, with male characters portrayed as protectors and providers. In addition, there is a difference in representation between upper-class men and lower-class men, where upper-class men are often depicted in the context of power and success, while lower-class men are often depicted in the context of weakness and dependence. The conclusion of this study confirms that Total Care advertisements not only reflect stereotypes of masculinity, but also reinforce power relations between social classes. This research is important to understand how the media contributes to the formation of gender and class identities in society. This research is also expected to be a reference for further research on the influence of media on gender and social class perceptions.
