Abstract

Abstract Education is a necessity for every human being. There are many components that support, among others: teachers, students, curriculum used and others. Teachers are the determinants of the success of a learning system. Therefore, teachers should understand the model, method, setrategi, or approach of learning. One of the learning model that can be applied is cooperative learning model Round Table type. The purpose of this research is to improve students activity and learning achievement for the triangle subject in VII-D SMP Negeri 2 Pasirian. The result showed that the percentage of student activity from 74,70% in cycle I to 86,97% in cycle II. The result of student learning showed an increase from 60,60% of students who completed in cycle I to 75,76% student which complete in cycle II. From these results indicate that the implementation of Round Table can improve student activity and learning outcomes and can be used as an alternative method of learning in the classroom. Keywords: cooperative, round table, students' activities and achievement

Abstract

This study was purposed to describe the students’ spatial visual ability in solving PISA standard math questions in Shape and Space content viewed from van Hiele's level of geometrical thinking. The research participants were 7 students who fulfilled each level of van Hiele's geometrical thinking starting from level 0 to level 3 in class XI IA 4 Glagah 1 Public Senior High School. Data collection methods were test and interviews. Based on data analysis, the results of the study show that students who are on level 3 van Hiele geometry levels, on levels between 2-3, and level 2 meet all characteristics of visual abilities. Meanwhile, students who are on levels between 1-2, level 1, levels between 0-1, and level 0 do not all meet the characteristics of spatial visual abilities. Characteristics of students' spatial visual abilities in imagination are the most dominant characteristics (most fulfilled) among the others, while the use of concepts (conceptualization) and using several ideas to find new ways are the most difficult characteristics to fulfill. Keywords: PISA standard math questions with Shape and Space content, van Hiele's level of geometrical thinking, spatial visual abilities.

Abstract

Abstract. Mathematical reasoning ability is the ability to think through math problems logically in order to get a conclusion or a solution. Mathematical communication ability is the ability to present mathematical ideas through notations, symbols, or images. This research aimed to describe student’s mathematical reasoning and communication ability in solving math problems. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research with 9 students of class VII-A SMPN 2 Jember as the subjects who have categorized according to the strudent’s ability of mathematics (high, moderate, and low). Methods of data collection in this research are test method and interviews method. Based on the results of the mathematical reasoning and communication ability’s test reinforced by interviews, the ability of student’s mathematical reasoning and communication to solve math problems are varied. For the mathematical reasoning ability, from 3 students that have a high mathematical ability, 2 strudents have a very good mathematical reasoning ability and 1 student has an enough mathematical reasoning ability. From 3 students that have a moderate mathematical ability, 2 strudents have a good mathematical reasoning ability and 1 student has an enough mathematical reasoning ability. From 3 students that have a low mathematical ability, 3 students have less mathematical reasoning ability. For the mathematical communication ability, from 3 students that have a high mathematical ability, 2 strudents have a very good mathematical communication ability and 1 student has an enough mathematical communication ability. From 3 students that have a moderate mathematical ability, 1 strudents has a very good mathematical communication ability and 2 student have a good mathematical communication ability. From 3 students that have a low mathematical ability, 1 student has an enough mathematical communication ability and 2 students have less mathematical communication ability. It can be concluded that the higher the student’s mathematical ability, the higher the student’s reasoning and communication ability in solving math problem. Abstract: This research aims to describe the difficulties experienced by the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Bangil in solving algebra material problems based on the concept understanding ability and to describe the factors causing the students’ difficulties in learning algebra. The subject of this research is the students of VIIIC and VIIID of SMPN 2 Bangil in the 2013-2014 academic years. The data of the research are obtained from validation sheet, written test, and questionnaire and interview techniques. The results of this study indicate that the students still have difficulties in understanding the concept of algebra, in which the highest difficulty is on the indicator in restating a concept and applying the concept and algorithm into problem solving, while the factors causing the students’ difficulties in learning algebra based on the results of the questionnaire are the internal factor and the external factor. Key words: learning difficulties, the concept understanding ability, algebra.

Abstract

Critical thinking skill is necessary to be learned by every students, because by thinking critically students are able to understand other mathematical skills. One of the problems that can improve critical thinking skills is Problem With Contradiction Information (PWCI), which means problem that contains wrong information. Every student has their own characteristics, it also influences their critical thinking. One of the ways to identify a type of personality people is by using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), which classifies humans based on several perspectives, such as how to understanding and receiving information (Sennsing-Intuition), also how to make a conclusion and decision (Thinking-Feeling). The purpose of this study is to describe the critical thinking skills of students with sensing, intuition, thinking and feeling personalities. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. This research was based on SMAN Arjasa, and the subject was 8 students consisting of 2 students each with sensing, intuition, thinking and feeling personality. Data collection methods used are test and interview. The analysis technique used is the analysis of test results, interviews and triangulation.  The results of this research revealed that students with sensing, intuition, thinking and feeling personality types have their own characteristics when solving the problem. The results of the critical thinking test found that there were no students who were able to fulfill critical thinking skills but there were students who were able to find contradictory information in the question

Abstract

Numeracy is a person's ability to implement mathematics in the home, work and community environments. This research aims to measure the practicality and effectiveness of using E-LKPD in a socio-cultural context assisted by GeoGebra workbooks in improving students' numeracy skills in pyramid material. The type of research used was a quasi-experiment (Quasi-experiment) with research subjects 21 class VIII students at SMPN 1 Kalisat Jember. The practicality of E-LKPD is assessed from the results of student response questionnaires, while the effectiveness of E-LKPD is assessed from the results of students' numeracy ability tests. The use of E-LKPD is said to be practical if the average percentage of students' questionnaire responses is at least in the practical category, and effective if students' numeracy skills are at least in the medium category. Based on the practicality analysis, the results of the student response questionnaire regarding the use of E-LKPD obtained a percentage of 81.67% or were in the practical category. In addition, the use of E-LKPD shows an increase in students' numeracy skills on all numeracy indicators. This can be seen based on the results of the numeracy ability test which obtained an N-Gain score of 0.51 or at a medium effectiveness level. Therefore, the use of E-LKPD in a socio-cultural context with the help of GeoGebra workbooks is practical and effective for improving students' numeracy skills, especially in learning surface area and volume of pyramids.

Abstract

A graph is defined as an ordered set (V,E) where V is a non-empty set of elements called vertices and E is a set of edges which are finite and may be empty and each edge connects two different points of V(G).The r-dynamic coloring is defined as c:V(G)→{1,2,3,…,k} such that it satisfies the following conditions if uv∈V(G), then c(u)≠ c(v), and ∀v∈V(G), |c(N(v))|≥min⁡{r,d(v)}, for positive integers r and degree of vertex v. The purpose of r-dynamic coloring is to find the minimum chromatic number of graph coloring with unlimited parameter r. Dynamic coloring is performed on cricket graphs because no research has been done before. The method used in this research is the axiomatic deductive research method and the pattern detection method.
