Abstract

Diabetes is a disease characterized by a high level of sugar in the blood. The disease occurs because of a disruption in the metabolic system when insulin is not produced effectively and functions properly. High blood sugar levels, for an extended period of time, can harm a few organ systems, including the heart and kidneys. Moreover, it may cause blindness or death if it is not carefully monitored. Because diabetes symptoms are rarely seen, one of the factors that may cause diabetes is self-awareness. Thus, with Artificial Intelligence, this problem can be solved. Artificial intelligence studies how machines can function like humans. This study implemented a Convolutional Neural Network algorithm with (1) input layer, (2) feature learning layer, (3) classification layer, and (4) output layer as the architecture for AI. The accuracy of the developed AI model was measured from its precision, recall, and f1-score. The results show that the model obtained 90% precision, recall, and f1-score for real-world cases found in two hospitals located in Solo and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. According to the results of the tests, 9 out of 10 patients were correctly predicted as having a high risk of diabetes based on their eye images.

Abstract

Energy sustainability is crucial for mitigating climate change and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. This research evaluates a hybrid renewable energy system combining photovoltaic (PV) technology and wind turbines to meet the electricity demand of Wahid Hasyim University's Faculty of Engineering, totalling 555,000 VA. Using HOMER Pro software, the study identifies the optimal configuration based on technical, economic, and environmental aspects. The hybrid system integrating PV, wind turbines, batteries, and converters achieves the lowest Net Present Cost (NPC) of $214,877 and a Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of $0.0185/kWh, outperforming grid-only systems. Environmentally, the system significantly reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, from 559,226 kg/yr in conventional systems to 62,452 kg/yr. Solar energy contributes 56% of electricity generation, leveraging stable solar radiation of 4.28–5.54 kWh/m²/day. Additionally, an annual surplus of 156,350 kWh can be sold back to the grid, enhancing operational efficiency. This study demonstrates that hybrid renewable energy systems deliver long-term cost efficiency and significantly mitigate climate impacts. It provides a sustainable energy model for campuses in Indonesia and worldwide, particularly in regions with abundant solar resources.

Abstract

One of the characteristics of Education 4.0, which is a response to the demands of Industry 4.0, is the use of adaptive and artificial intelligence technologies in online education. In relation to e-learning preparedness, many researchers have conducted studies. But in Education 4.0, the teaching and learning processes' peculiarities were not considered. Therefore, this study aims to develop and validate an instrument for assessing the e-learning readiness of students toward Education 4.0. There were 126 undergraduate students participated in this study. The respondents were asked to fill out the online-based questionnaire voluntarily. The data obtained were then statistically analyzed using the Pearson product-moment correlation test to measure the instrument's validity. The validity test showed that all items on the questionnaire are considerably valid at a significance level of 0.01. Meanwhile, the instrument reliability was measured through Cronbach's alpha score. The reliability test confirmed that six aspects out of seven of the instrument are categorized as high reliability (flexibility, learning preferences, project-based learning, data interpretation, improving curriculum, and self-directedness). One aspect (field experience) showed a moderate level of reliability. The study's findings confirmed that the questionnaire developed is valid and reliable for collecting data concerning the students' e-learning readiness toward Education 4.0.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the performance between a PID cascade controller and a self-tuning Neural Network adaptive control (PID NN) in controlling an ROV on an octarotor platform with 6 degrees of freedom (DOF), namely Surge, Sway, Heave, Roll, Pitch, and Yaw. The conventional PID control system is used as a proven baseline, while the Neural Network-based adaptive control is applied to adjust parameters in real-time, expected to address the nonlinearity and external disturbances that are difficult to handle by static PID. This study involves an analysis of overshoot, rise time, settling time, and final position for each channel, as well as a comparison of the performance of the two control methods. The results show that PID NN provides faster rise times and lower overshoot in most channels, such as Surge overshoot of 8.3%, rise time of 6.2 seconds, and Sway overshoot of 2.1%, settling time of 90 seconds, compared to PID, which has higher overshoot and longer stabilization times. However, for the Yaw and Heave channels, although PID NN showed larger overshoot and longer settling time, PID was faster in achieving stability. Overall, although PID NN demonstrated superiority in terms of rapid stabilization for Roll and Pitch, further adjustments are needed to optimize Yaw and Heave to achieve faster stabilization without compromising system stability and overall control performance. This study opens opportunities for further development in the field of adaptive control for high-complexity multirotor systems.

Abstract

Efficient and flexible control systems for remote real-time monitoring are highly needed by modern industries. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) has become a core technology in automation. Most commercial SCADA systems, however, are costly and complex, thus limiting their adoption in small industries and educational institutions. Therefore, this study develops an integrated SCADA–PLC–HMI model for low-cost control and real-time monitoring of three-phase AC motors. The model is designed as an economical, portable, and user-friendly system that supports various control configurations, including Direct On-Line (DOL), Forward-Reverse, and Star-Delta. Adopting the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) model, the development process involves needs analysis, system design, hardware/software development, system implementation, and performance evaluation through testing and data logging. Experimental results show that the system can alternately operate two three-phase motors, present real-time monitoring through the HMI, and automatically record operational data. The log file records system validity, operating time, and Start/Stop button responses, with timers operating at the configured 5-second delay. Motor 1 and Motor 2 run as programmed, with Motor 2 operating for 14 seconds before shutting down. These findings confirm that the proposed SCADA–PLC–HMI system is reliable, efficient, and cost-effective, thus providing a practical solution for motor control that is both affordable and adaptable. This study contributes to supporting competency development in engineering education and offers a viable automation alternative for small- and medium-scale industries.
