Abstract

Several theories in the world of education state that student learning styles must be known by both teachers and students because learning styles play an important role in the learning process. This study aims to identify the preferred learning styles and problems faced by English Language Education students who take the Critical Reading Course. This research is in the form of a descriptive case study with the subject of the study being English Language Education students. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The data analysis method used is descriptive analysis. The findings of the study show that the most preferred learning style by students is the visual learning style, followed by kinesthetic and auditory learning styles. Some students also prefer multimodal learning styles, such as visual-kinesthetic and visual-auditory. Students with visual-kinesthetic learning styles tend to intertextualize texts to understand the meaning in critical reading texts. The main obstacle students face in reading is lack of focus. Topics that students consider challenging include the main idea implied, supporting details, arguments, and logical fallacies. This study provides valuable information about the learning style of English Language Education students based on the sensory perception dimension. This research suggests that teachers create an inclusive classroom environment by implementing various teaching strategies, media, and activities to accommodate different learning styles of students. In addition, students are expected to be aware of their respective learning styles to acquire material efficiently and enjoyably.

Abstract

There are important areas that have not been fully investigated. The use of chatbots to improve students' language learning abilities presents various advantages and obstacles. This study explores the integration of Chatbots in English language instruction for EFL learners, focusing on their impact on learning implementation experiences, advantages, and limitations. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standards, the research reviewed articles from 2019 to 2024 to ensure a comprehensive analysis. A total of 998 publications were identified through Google Scholar, with search terms such as "chatbot," "AI chatbot," and "Chatbot implementation among EFL learners in English language learning." After an extensive screening process, including duplicate removal, inclusion, and exclusion criteria, 10 empirical, open-access studies were selected for review. The findings reveal that ChatGPT significantly enhances writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills by providing immediate and personalized feedback. It also fosters engagement and motivation while supporting cultural exploration and intercultural competence. However, limitations include reduced efficacy in developing speaking and listening skills, technical challenges, and ethical concerns. The study concludes that while ChatGPT is a valuable tool, it should complement, not replace, traditional teaching methods to ensure a balanced and effective learning experience.

Abstract

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of gamification in education, with Quizizz emerging as a popular tool for interaction between teachers and students. This systematic review focuses on previous research examining the effects of Quizizz on vocabulary skills, particularly among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, the study accessed ten journal articles published between 2019 and 2024 via Google Scholar and Crossref. Through rigorous review processes, including inclusion and exclusion criteria, this review investigates how Quizizz is utilized in educational settings to enhance student vocabulary skills. The findings underscore Quizizz's potential to offer engaging features that facilitate vocabulary learning and improvement among students The practical implications of this study suggest that EFL teachers should consider integrating Quizizz into their classrooms. Quizizz can effectively complement traditional teaching methods or be utilized independently for vocabulary practice. Future research should explore the long-term effects of using Quizizz on vocabulary retention, its applicability across different proficiency levels, and its impact on students' motivation for vocabulary acquisition.

Abstract

Developing effective speaking proficiency, particularly in pronunciation, accuracy, and fluency, remains a persistent challenge for EFL learners in Indonesian higher education. In response, this study investigates the impact of integrating ELSA Speak, a voice-based AI application, on enhancing these core aspects of speaking performance. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the research involved 23 Indonesian university students over an eight-week intervention. Quantitative data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests using CEFR-aligned speaking assessments, with paired-samples t-tests employed to examine the statistical significance of performance gains. Test validity was ensured through expert review and alignment with internationally recognized rubrics. Results indicated a statistically significant improvement in students’ overall speaking scores, particularly in pronunciation and accuracy. To complement these findings, qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically. Students reported that ELSA Speak provided constructive, personalized feedback, context-rich materials, and a flexible, motivating learning environment. However, limitations were noted, including restricted access to premium features, internet connectivity issues, and low self-regulation, especially in managing independent learning. These findings underscore both the pedagogical benefits and practical challenges of integrating AI-powered tools like ELSA Speak into EFL speaking instruction.

Abstract

This study explores the role of E-portfolios in students’ cognitive development in speaking, focusing on fluency and pronunciation. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research investigates the experiences of eleventh-grade students at a senior high school in Buleleng, Bali, during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through researcher’s notes and semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that E-portfolios significantly enhanced students’ fluency and pronunciation through repeated practice, self-assessment, and peer feedback. Compared to previous studies conducted at the university level, this research highlights that high school students require additional instructional support when using E-portfolios. The study concludes that while E-portfolios are an effective tool for improving speaking skills, integrating spontaneous speaking exercises and structured feedback mechanisms can further enhance students' oral proficiency.

Abstract

This study employs an explanatory mixed method design to investigate the user experience and enjoyment of ChatGPT among 219 grade 12 students and four English teachers at one high school in Bali. Quantitative data were collected using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and analyzed with the Data Analysis Tool, while qualitative data were gathered through interviews and subjected to thematic analysis. Results reveal that students had generally positive experiences across dimensions such as attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, and novelty but reported neutral stimulation levels, attributed to high technology dependence and limited social interaction. In contrast, teachers reported uniformly positive experiences across all dimensions and demonstrated greater personal and social enjoyment. The findings indicate that user enjoyment significantly influences overall ChatGPT user experience in educational contexts. This study highlights the need to enhance engagement strategies to improve stimulation for student users, offering important insights for AI integration in education.
