Abstract

Aggressive behavior begins to emerge in early childhood as part of social-emotional development and is closely associated with self-regulation capacity. If not appropriately addressed, aggressive behavior may persist and have negative implications for later academic success. This study aimed to (1) describe the profile of aggressive behavior in preschool children and (2) explore this profile in relation to children’s self-regulation abilities based on teachers’ observations. This study employed a mixed-methods design using a concurrent embedded model. The research population consisted of 877 children aged 4–6 years, with total population sampling applied. Quantitative data were collected using an aggressiveness scale, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with five teachers selected based on children classified in the moderate and high aggression categories. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, whereas qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that aggressive behavior among children was generally low, with 63.4% of children classified in the low aggression category and only one child in the high aggression category. Emotional aggression—such as anger, crying, and expressions of dislike—was the most dominant form. Children’s aggression was predominantly reactive, triggered by frustration, peer conflict, competition over toys, or unmet desires. Verbal and physical aggression emerged in specific contexts, particularly among children with lower self-regulation abilities.

Abstract

Globalization and technological developments are challenges in maintaining local wisdom and religious values. This study aims to explore the potential of Javanese community wisdom values, namely Memayu Hayuning Bawana (MHB) as a solution to increasing family resilience. In addition, MHB is also studied for its relevance to Islamic religious values through Al-Ghazali's perspective. The research method used is a mixed method with a Qual-quan sequential exploratory design. Quantitative analysis was conducted to determine the profile of family resilience, while qualitative analysis was used to examine the potential of MHB values as a solution to increasing family resilience and its relationship to Al-Ghazali's views. The study was conducted in Java, Indonesia, with 150 couples as participants. The results of the study found that the family resilience of Javanese society was 36.00% at a low level, 60.33% were in the medium category, and 3.67% were in the high category. In addition, the MBH values that can be used as a solution to increase family resilience are respecting each other's partners (Tepa Selira), pleasing the feelings of the partner (Karyenak tyasing sesama), being sincere in establishing a relationship (Sepi ing Pamrih, lan Rame ing Gawe), and being careful in acting (Eling lan Waspada). These values are in accordance with Al-Ghazali's perspective on the criteria for the nature of a partner. The characteristics of Al-Annanah, Al-Mananah, Al-Haddaqah, Al-Syaddaqah, Al-Barraqah, and Al-Hananah need to be avoided and are contrary to the MBH values and Al-Ghazali's perspective. Thus, the value of maintaining MBH can create a family that is orderly (tata), calm (titi), and peaceful (tentrem) or in Islamic literature it is called sakinah, mawadah, warahmah.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of inner peace on the dynamics of conflict experienced by university students, including both intrapersonal and interpersonal conflicts. The research employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental correlational design. A total of 82 students participated, selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 35 students residing in Islamic boarding schools and 47 non-resident students. The Inner Peace Scale, covering the aspects of acceptance of loss, inner balance and calmness, and transcending hedonism and materialism, was tested on 438 students and produced 19 valid items based on Pearson correlation validity and a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability score of 0.764. The Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS), tested on 35 students, resulted in 15 valid items with a reliability of 0.914. The Interpersonal Conflict Scale, adapted from the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode, yielded 29 valid items with a reliability of 0.932. Normality testing using the Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed normal data distribution. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that inner balance and calmness had a significant positive correlation with intrapersonal conflict (r = 0.437; p = 0.009), while acceptance of loss had a significant negative correlation with interpersonal conflict (r = -0.433; p = 0.009). The regression analysis showed that the model significantly explained intrapersonal conflict (R² = 0.361, p < 0.001), with two dimensions of inner peace having significant effects: inner balance and calmness (β = 0.665, p < 0.001) and transcending hedonism and materialism (β = -0.489, p = 0.002). For interpersonal conflict, only the acceptance of loss dimension showed a significant negative effect (β = -0.364, p = 0.033). These findings suggest an opportunity to reinforce empathic and transformative communication approaches, emphasizing both conflict resolution and the personal transformation of those involved in the conflict.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the factors shaping high school students’ growth mindset from the perspective of educators in Surakarta, Indonesia, a novel approach in the local context. Utilising Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and narrative inquiry, data were collected from 18 school counsellors and 6 Principals/Vice Principals across public and private high schools. Thematic analysis, supported by NVivo software, identified ten key themes. Findings reveal that students’ internal motivation and future goals are the most dominant factors, while the role of parents and family environment emerges as the most prominent external influence. Other contributing factors include self-perception, socioeconomic conditions, school environment, teacher roles, aspirations, and educational policies. These results underscore the crucial synergy between school and family environments, highlighting the need for relevant and challenging educational policies that foster a growth mindset. Practical implications emphasise parental involvement and developing students’ life goals for optimal growth mindset cultivation.

Abstract

Abstract

Trends and shifts in Structural Equation Modeling applications in growth mindset research Abstract: This study aims to examine the application of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in research on growth mindset. A systematic literature review was employed, using journal articles and conference proceedings sourced from Scopus and Google Scholar via the Publish or Perish application. Inclusion criteria included: publications from the last five years (2020–2024), English-language articles, and explicit use of SEM in studies on growth mindset. Data were analyzed descriptively and through content analysis, with visualization using VOSviewer. The findings indicate that SEM is commonly used to model mediating and moderating relationships between growth mindset and internal factors (e.g., grit, motivation) as well as external factors (e.g., social support, classroom climate), particularly in educational contexts focusing on student academic achievement. Methodological challenges include sample size and validity issues, while conceptual challenges relate to definitional variation and limitations in interpretation. This study is limited to specific data sources and a restricted publication range. Future research is recommended to broaden data sources (e.g., adding Web of Science, ERIC, or ProQuest) and extend the publication period to provide a more comprehensive literature review.

Abstract

This study aims to validate personality competence assessment instruments for teachers with Rasch Model. This quantitative research involved 165 teachers with 72-items instrument measuring 13 dimensions of personality competence. Analysis using Winsteps 5.5.0 showed person reliability 0.83 and item reliability 0.99, indicating excellent measurement consistency. Dimensionality analysis results showed 66.1% variance explained by measurement with unexplained variance in first contrast 6.7%, meeting unidimensionality criteria. Response categories functioned optimally with ordered thresholds (-1.16, -0.46, 1.62). Of 72 items, 64 items (88.9%) showed good fit, while 8 items required revision. Findings showed “wise and prudent” dimension had highest difficulty level (3.42 logit), while “continuous professional development” lowest (-2.01 logit). This instrument provides practical contribution for teacher education institutions in evaluating teachers' personality competence objectively and evidence-based in digital era.
