Abstract

The Independent Curriculum was officially introduced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) in February 2022. Its implementation requires several preparatory steps, including curriculum planning, differentiated instruction, and assessment strategies. This study aims to examine and describe the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Independent Curriculum in the Indonesian language subject at SMPN 2 Selong. A qualitative descriptive research approach was employed, utilizing data collection techniques such as observations, interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed through qualitative methods, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Indonesian language instruction at SMPN 2 Selong has been conducted effectively and sustainably. However, several challenges remain, such as limited teaching resources, inadequate infrastructure and internet access, difficulties in adapting to students’ diverse linguistic backgrounds and dialects, time constraints in project-based learning, insufficient exposure to differentiated learning models, and the persistence of traditional assessment paradigms that do not fully align with the principles of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the integration of local wisdom into Social Studies (IPS) learning as an effort to develop character values in elementary school students. A qualitative approach was employed, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results show that IPS learning based on local values such as mutual cooperation, tolerance, responsibility, and respect for culture significantly enhances students’ active engagement. Learning activities that connect academic material with students’ social realities foster more meaningful understanding and strengthen character values contextually. This integration not only revitalizes local culture within the classroom but also deepens students' connection with their social identity and environment. The main challenges in implementation include limited local teaching resources, lack of teacher training, and insufficient support from schools and parents. The study concludes that local wisdom-based IPS learning has strong potential to shape students' character, though systematic support and educational policies are needed to ensure sustainable implementation.

Abstract

A language ecology study at Lombok Tourism Vocational Schools is essential to meet students’ learning needs and to prepare qualified human resources for the tourism sector in East Lombok. This research aims to explore the specific needs of Indonesian language learning relevant to the Merdeka Curriculum within an Indonesian language ecology framework, enhance instructional effectiveness, and propose strategies for integrating these learning needs with the context of the local tourism industry. This study employed an exploratory research design with a language ecology approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, document analyses, focus group discussions (FGDs), and questionnaires. The data collection encompassed an analysis of learning processes and outcomes, structured interviews regarding ecological environments and the use of learning materials, as well as observations of language ecology in tourism vocational schools located in coastal, urban, and mountainous areas. Data were analyzed descriptively by quantifying learning needs based on ecological environments, correlating the quantitative findings with interview and FGD data, and drawing qualitative conclusions on the distinctions of Indonesian language learning needs across tourism schools. The findings indicate that Indonesian language learning aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum and informed by language ecology should emphasize communication skills in both formal and informal contexts, tourism-related vocabulary, and the integration of Lombok’s local cultural values. These needs highlight the role of language as a key instrument in preparing students for the tourism workforce. The ecological approach was found to enhance instructional relevance and support students’ understanding of language use in real-world professional settings. Recommended strategies include project-based learning through tourism simulations and the development of instructional materials integrating language with local traditions, folklore, and cultural terminology to strengthen students’ contextual language competence.
