Abstract

More than two third of toddler in some developing countries suffer from declining of their childhood development. In Indonesia, in 2003, Department of Health has conducted childhood development in 30 provinces and reported that 45,12 % of infant has suffered from growth and development disorder. One of factors that influence the development is early stimulation especially from people close to the toddler (mother and other family). The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between mother’s knowledge about early stimulation and motoric development of toddlers. This is an observational study of case control design. To obtain the samples, the technique is non probability sampling with consecutive sampling. Motoric development of toddlers from 6 – 24 month old are observed by KPSP form. Data are analyzed using bivariate analysis of Marginal Homogeneity test and Conditional Regressiona Logistic (Confidence Interval 95%). The result shows that mother’s knowledge on early stimulation have significant effect to the motoric development of toddlers. The odds ratio shows 4,950 means that the lack of knowledge of the mother on early stimulation may increase the risk of motoric development disorder about nearly 5 times. It can be conclude that there is significant relationship between mother’s knowledge on early stimulation and motoric development disorder. Mother who is in the closest position of toddlers should be educated with this knowledge of education.

Abstract

Liver cancer, predominantly Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), is a tumor that originates from hepatocytes and is clinically progressive. In Indonesia, according to the Ministry of Health in 2019, liver cancer is the second most common cancer in men, amounting to 12.4 per 100,000 population with an average death rate of 7.6 per 100,000 population. There are very few studies on HCC in RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. This study aims to determine the characteristics and factors that can be predictors of death in HCC patients. This study uses an observational analytic research type with a case-control research design. The data of this study used secondary data from the medical records of HCC patients at RSD dr. Soebandi Jember, as well as primary data in the form of telephone interviews. The results of this study with a total of 72 samples showed that there was a significant difference between liver cirrhosis and HCC patient mortality within 90 days (p = 0.005), and could be used as a predictor of HCC mortality (OR = 17.15; 95% CI = 1.532-192.017). Abstract

Optimizing the role of the community in the Healthy Community Movement (HCM) through the facilitation of health cadres at the Integrated Development Post (IDP) of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to become an effective solution of health promotion program using empowerment and partnerships in the community as a form of active participation in health. The purpose of this community service was to increase community empowerment and partnerships in overcoming NCDs problems through HCM to reduce hypertension in Glagahwero Village, Panti District, Jember Regency. The activities were carried out for 3 months (August - November 2020) in the form of education and health counseling about HCM and hypertension, anti-hypertensive exercise, hypertension diet, empowerment of family cooking in the management of family salt consumption, and IDP of NCDs. The fostered village service activities involved 70 target groups. The results were found that the community was able to do HCM to control blood pressure by doing anti-hypertensive exercises once a week, mothers were able to prepare a low-salt menu in their families, and IDP of NCDs activities were carried out once a month. The further impact was a decrease in mean systolic blood pressure (130.5 ± 22.5 mmHg Vs. 122.3 ± 18.3 mmHg; p = <0.001) and diastolic (81.83 ± 10.4 mmHg Vs. 79.4 ± 9.1 mmHg; p = 0.015), decreased body weight (60.6 ± 12.1 kg Vs. 59.7 ± 12 kg; p <0.001), and decreased abdominal circumference (88.5 ± 14.2 cm Vs 82.7 ± 14.1 cm; p <0.001) after 3 months of community service development. Thus, it can be concluded that the partnership and empowerment of the community in HCM is able to prevent PTM, so it is suggested that IDP of NCDs activities need to be carried out in a sustainable manner in the community.

Abstract

Malaria is a major infectious disease worldwide, and vaccination is essential for disease control. The Plasmodium falciparum Erythrocyte Membrane Protein-1 (PfEMP1) is a potential malaria vaccine candidate due to its involvement in pathogenesis. Injection of DBL2β-PfEMP1 recombinant protein in animal models induces IgG and CD4+ production and inhibits binding with host endothelial receptors. This study aimed to analyze the spleen immune response by measuring the white pulp diameter. The experimental study used Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) that were divided into four groups, a control group and three treatment groups, which were injected with 100, 150, and 200 μg of DBL2β-PfEMP1 protein. Injection was done thrice with three-week intervals (days 0, 21, and 42). On day 56, rats were euthanized, and spleens were prepared for histology examination. The white pulp diameter increased along with increasing the dose of protein. The ANOVA test showed a significant difference between groups (p=0.001). The posthoc Bonferroni test showed a significant difference between the control and the 150 and 200 μg groups and the 100 μg and 200 μg groups. In conclusion, the DBL2β-PfEMP1 recombinant protein injection increased the spleen white pulp diameter in Wistar rats, and the 200 μg dose resulted in the highest increase.

Abstract

Interaction of Cysteine-rich Interdomain Region (CIDR)α-Plasmodium falciparum Erythrocyte Membrane Protein (PfEMP1) and Endothelial Cell Receptors especially CD36 on host cells is main malaria pathogenesis, makes this domain as a malaria vaccine candidate. Recently, the development of the malaria vaccine is conducted by recombinant technology, and the purification of the CIDRα-PfEMP1 recombinant protein is a pivotal step. This study aimed to determine an optimal condition to purify the CIDRα-PfEMP1 recombinant protein by affinity chromatography through imidazole and NaCl concentration. The purified recombinant protein was visualized using SDS-PAGE and its concentration was measured using Image J software and Bradford Assay. The data were analyzed using SPSS 26 software, and the Paired T-Test analysis was conducted to compare the concentration of purified recombinant protein from two different methods. The result showed that thetarget band of purified recombinant protein was 27 kDa. The thickest target protein band was observed in purified recombinant protein using 140 mM imidazole and 300 mM NaCl. The recombinant protein concentration using Image J software was 0.025 µg/µL, while the Bradford Assay was 0.56 µg/µL. The Paired T-Test analysis has a significance value of 0.010 (p<0.05), meaning there was a significant difference between the concentration measurement using Image J software and Bradford Assay. In conclusion, the optimized condition to purify the CIDRα-PfEMP1 recombinant protein by affinity chromatography was using 140 mM imidazole and 300 mM NaCl. It is suggested to measure the purified CIDRα-PfEMP1 recombinant protein concentration using the Bradford Assay method due to its convenience and sensitivity.

Abstract

Indonesia as an agricultural country relies heavily on its corps as the main sector of nation’s development. On daily basis, many farmers use pesticide to increase corps productivity. However, pesticides were known to induce malignancy, one of them being gastric cancer; the fourth most mortal cancer in the world, with less than 12 month life expectancy on advanced stage, thereby making it a global health problem. This research used systematic review and meta-analysis methods to examine pesticide exposure variables on gastric cancer cases. Three journals were found, and meta-analysis results showed that there was a significant increase in the risk of gastric cancer in respondents who experienced pesticide exposure, especially with prolonged exposure with an odds ratio of 1.47 (more than two years). However, this review cannot explain the toxicity dose of pesticides and the nutritional status of respondents which can increase the incidence of gastric cancer due to the lack of research on related variables.
