Abstract

Purpose – The Indonesian government had a chronic disease management program, PROLANIS, targeted for diabetes and hypertension since 2010 to prevent chronic disease patients from severe complications through monitoring and control measures. The purpose of this community service was to improve the health status of diabetic patients who participate in PROLANIS in Sukodadi and Sukolilo Villages, Lamongan Regency, through analysis of blood glucose levels. Design/methodology/approach – To overcome the problems previously mentioned, community service has been proposed. This service includes educating participants about metabolic syndrome and health checks. The main aim of this educational program is to increase public awareness about diabetes mellitus. The blood examination aims to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in these villages. This educational program involves direct mentoring and outreach methods, such as the creation of booklets, educational videos, and PPTs. Findings and Discussions – In Sukodadi and Sukolilo Villages, community service was organized as a response to the high prevalence of diabetes mellitus. The program included blood tests and educational sessions for participants enrolled in the PROLANIS initiative. Analysis of the data revealed that the average blood sugar level of the participants was 143.1 mg/dl, slightly above the normal blood sugar level tolerance limit of 140 mg/dl. Nevertheless, the results indicate that the blood sugar levels of the participants can be effectively managed and kept below the diabetes tolerance threshold of <200 mg/dl. Originality/value – Our community services in Sukodadi and Sukolilo Village, Lamongan Regency, showed that most elderly women with diabetes mellitus are retired. As people age, their risk of high blood glucose levels increases. Despite the average glucose level of PROLANIS participants being higher than normal, it can still be controlled. Our findings can guide the government to organize diabetes management programs and help service providers carry out prevention measures.

Abstract

Xylo-oligosaccharide derived from corncob hemicellulose has been reported to possess antioxidant activity. In order to assess the effective scavenging of xylo-oligosaccharide, we conducted in vitro studies based on self-made xylo-oligosaccharide with DPPH (2,2diphenyl-1-picrilhydrazil) method. Xylo-oligosaccharide was prepared with enzymatic hydrolysis. The enzyme used for hemicellulose hydrolysis was endo-β-xylanase enzyme from PC-01 isolated bactrerium. PC-01 isolated bacterium used in this study was Pacet hot spring which was isolated from East Java. Endo-β-xylanase enzyme is an extracelluler enzyme. There was about 0.199 U/mL after purification and dialysis process. Hydrolisis product of hemicellulose A and B from corncob were analyzed with TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) and HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). This analysis showed that hydrolysis product of hemicellulose B had a lot of xylo-oligosaccharide hydrolysis product of hemicellulose than Xylo-oligosaccharide hydrolysis product of hemicelluloses A. Xylo-olygosaccharide was analyzed as on antioxidant activity. Xylo-oligosaccharide hydrolysis product ofhemicellulose B (IC = 48.96) has higher antioxidant activity than Xylo-oligosaccharide hydrolysis product of hemicellulose A (IC 50 50 = 92.302). The toxicity of xylo-oligosaccharide can be calculated by the value of LC 50 (Lethality concentration). LC of xylooligosaccharide derived from corncob hemicellulose was 400 ppm so that xylo-oligosaccharide has anti tumor activity because xylooligosaccharide has LC 50 < 1000 ppm.

Abstract

Indonesia was the third most recent case of leprosy globally in 2020 with 11,173 people, after India and Brazil. Most of the leprosy manifestations are asymptomatic. This is possibly as subclinical leprosy which individuals without leprosy symptoms but have leprosy specific antibodies high levels, so it has the potential to become a transmission and disability. Therefore, an ELISA test need for early detection in preventing leprosy transmission. This study aims to measure IgM and IgG antibody levels in leprosy patients and assess the accuracy of the measurement results. This research is a cross-sectional study. Five patients' blood samples have analyzed for IgM and IgG anti-PGL-1 antibody levels by ELISA. Accuracy interpretation of this measurement based on the %CV. Antibody levels were classified based on the cut-off <605 u/ml as IgM seronegative or <630 u/ml as IgG seronegative, 605–1000 u/ml as low seropositive IgM or 630-1000 u/ml as low seropositive IgG, and >1000 u/ml as high seropositive IgM and IgG. Among five patients examined, 40% had high seropositive leprosy with anti-PGL-1 IgM and IgG antibody titers>1000 u/ml, and 60% of patients had seronegative leprosy. Accuracy in this ELISA test shows high accuracy with %CV <10% in the conversion of OD to antibody titer levels.  IgM and IgG Anti PGL-1 antibody titers by ELISA as one of the parameters in identifying patients at higher risk of leprosy. A significant portion of patients with high seropositive leprosy with high accuracy.

Abstract

One effort to reduce stunting rates is to predict stunting status early in toddlers. This study applies Naive Bayes (NB) to build a stunting prediction model because it is simple and easy to use. This study proposes a filter-based feature weighting technique to overcome the NB assumption, which states that each feature has the same contribution to the target. The frequency of an event in a dataset influences the feature weighting using mutual information criteria. This is the gap in the filter-based ranking highlighted in this study. Therefore, this study proposes a feature-weighting method that combines mutual information with the MOORA (MI-MOORA) decision-making method. This technique makes it possible to include external factors as criteria for ranking important features. For stunting cases, the external consideration for ranking purposes is the assessment of nutrition experts based on their experience in dealing with stunted toddlers. The MI-MOORA technique makes the availability of clean water the most influential feature that contributes to the stunting status. In the ten best features, the MI-MOORA ranking results are dominated by family factors. Based on the performance evaluation results of NB and other classifiers, MI-MOORA can improve the performance of stunt prediction models.

Abstract

Abstract
