Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a public health threat in tropical regions such as Indonesia, with prevention highly dependent on family behavior. The level of knowledge and family attitudes are suspected to have a significant effect on the effectiveness of prevention efforts, but there are still gaps in their implementation, as seen in the work area of the Kedungmundu Health Center with quite high cases. The research method uses a cross-sectional design with a correlational quantitative approach. A sample of 66 families was selected using consecutive sampling techniques from a population of 205 dengue cases (March-May 2025). Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square test. Most respondents had a low level of knowledge (59.1%) and a negative attitude (68.2%) towards dengue prevention, with 62.1% indicating poor prevention practices. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the prevention of dengue (p=0.002; r=0.362) and between family attitudes and the prevention of dengue (p=0.000; r=0.632). The conclusion of this study There is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and family attitudes and dengue prevention practices in the work area of the Kedungmundu Health Center, although the majority of respondents still have low knowledge, negative attitudes, and suboptimal prevention practices.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a serious public health problem in Indonesia, with morbidity and mortality rates continuing to rise. The main prevention effort is carried out through mosquito breeding site elimination (MBSE) using the 3M Plus method, the implementation of which is highly dependent on the role of the family as the smallest unit of society. Family support plays an important role in shaping the awareness, motivation, and consistency of family members in implementing PSN on an ongoing basis. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and the implementation of PSN in the working area of the Kedungmundu Community Health Center. The study used a correlative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 66 respondents selected using consecutive sampling. Data collection was conducted using a family support questionnaire and a PSN implementation questionnaire. Bivariate analysis used Sommers' d test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that some respondents had low family support (37.9%) and PSN implementation was in the poor category (40.9%). Sommers' d test produced a p-value of 0.000 and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.628, indicating a significant, strong, and positive relationship between family support and PSN implementation. The better the family support, the more optimal the PSN implementation.

Abstract

Elderly people experience physiological changes, affecting decreased kidney function, purine metabolism, and the function of the endocrine and musculoskeletal systems. This decline in body function leads to susceptibility to degenerative diseases, one of which is hyperuricemia or excess uric acid. Factors associated with gout include gender, BMI, physical activity, rest habits, and diet, as these can reduce uric acid excretion. This study was quantitative, using a retrospective cohort approach. The total sample size was 153 respondents. Sampling was conducted using the purposive sampling technique and the Slovin formula. The research instrument consisted of a dietary questionnaire, The PASE (Physical Activities Scale of Elderly) questionnaire, digital scales, metline, and the GCU Easy Touch test were used. Data were analyzed using the Spearman test and logistic regression. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a good diet, good physical activity, and a BMI of obesity category I and experienced hyperuricemia. This study showed statistical results using the Spearman test, with a value of <0.001 for diet, 0.001 for physical activity, and 0.007 for BMI. The logistic regression test showed that diet was the most influential factor with a p-value of <0.001. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between diet, physical activity, and BMI with uric acid levels in the elderly at the Bangetayu Community Health Center

Abstract

Aging is a phase of life that is closely associated with physical, psychological, and social changes, which may increase vulnerability to stress among older adults. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social support and stress levels among elderly individuals living in social care institutions. A quantitative descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was applied. The population consisted of 204 elderly residents, with 132 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Social support was measured using a questionnaire based on House’s theory, while stress levels were assessed using the DASS-Stress instrument. Data were analyzed using Somers’ d test. The results showed that most respondents had moderate social support and experienced severe stress. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between social support and stress levels (p = 0.008), although the strength of the correlation was weak. These findings indicate that social support is related to stress among the elderly, but it is not the sole determinant influencing psychological conditions. Other factors such as physical health, chronic illness, and individual coping capacity may play a more dominant role. Therefore, comprehensive and integrated interventions are needed to improve the psychological well-being and quality of life of elderly individuals in social care institutions..

Abstract

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep and is commonly experienced by nursing students who face substantial academic demands. This condition has the potential to increase academic stress, reduce concentration, and impair cognitive functions such as memory and critical thinking, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of the learning process. This study aimed to examine the relationship between insomnia severity and learning concentration among nursing students. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study population comprised 316 undergraduate nursing students at Sultan Agung Islamic University, with 177 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the KSPBJ-IRS instrument to measure insomnia severity and a learning concentration questionnaire adapted from previous research. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25 and Somers’ d correlation test. The results indicated a statistically significant relationship between insomnia severity and learning concentration, with a negative correlation direction. The correlation coefficient was -0.502 with a p-value of 0.000. These findings suggest that higher levels of insomnia are associated with lower learning concentration among students. This study concludes that there is a significant negative relationship between insomnia severity and learning concentration. The findings are expected to serve as a foundation for educational institutions in developing effective promotive interventions.

Abstract

Personal hygiene is an essential factor in maintaining the health and quality of life of the elderly, as aging is often accompanied by a decline in physical strength, mobility, and cognitive function that can reduce the ability to maintain personal cleanliness independently. Limited understanding of the importance of personal hygiene may increase the risk of infections, skin disorders, and other health complications, making education and awareness crucial for promoting better hygiene behavior. This study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 204 elderly individuals residing at the Pucang Gading Elderly Social Service Home in Semarang and Wening Wardoyo Ungaran, with 135 respondents selected using a non-probability sampling technique. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires measuring the level of understanding and personal hygiene practices and were analyzed using the Somers’d statistical test. The results showed that most respondents were female (60%) and aged between 70–79 years (48.9%). The level of understanding of personal hygiene among the elderly was predominantly in the moderate category (72.6%), and their personal hygiene practices were also mostly categorized as moderate (72.6%). Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.472, indicating a positive and significant relationship between the level of understanding and personal hygiene practices. These findings suggest that improving knowledge through continuous education and guidance from health workers is necessary to enhance awareness, independence, and hygiene behavior among the elderly.

Abstract

Entering the elderly phase involves various biological, psychological, and social declines. Physical limitations in daily activities and reduced social interactions often trigger mental health issues, particularly depression. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social interaction and independence in Activity of Daily Living (ADL) with the level of depression among the elderly living in social care homes. This quantitative research utilized a cross-sectional study design. The population consisted of elderly residents at the social care home. A sample of 135 respondents was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection instruments included a social interaction questionnaire, the Barthel Index to measure ADL independence, and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) to assess depression levels. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results the majority of respondents maintained good social interaction (63.0%) and a high level of independence (85.2%). Most of the elderly did not experience depression (66.7%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between social interaction and depression (p = 0.000,  r = -0.315), showing a positive correlation where poorer social interaction relates to higher depression scores. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between ADL independence and depression (p = 0.002, r = -0.267), indicating a negative correlation where higher independence is associated with lower levels of depression. Active social interaction and maintained physical independence contribute significantly to reducing the risk of depression among the elderly in social service environments. It is recommended that social care homes increase group activities and physical rehabilitation programs to sustain the mental well-being of the elderly.
