Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Fasciola hepatica is the main species found infecting livestock. Fasciolosis is a significant animal health and public health problem, causing major economic losses. Epidemiological studies of fasciolosis in dairy cattle in Indonesia are still few and existing reports only focus on prevalence. Fasciolosis is an endemic parasitic disease in Indonesia and causes considerable economic losses. Efforts that can be made to prevent disease are vector eradication, namely eradicating snails through biological means, for example by raising ducks. Raising ducks biologically can reduce the worm population. Several simple techniques for controlling worm infections in cattle can be done by regulating feeding, timing grass cutting and making compost to break the life cycle of Fasciola sp. In general, dairy cattle in Indonesia are raised more intensively compared to beef cattle farms, which explains the difference in prevalence rates. In intensive farming systems, animals are housed permanently, limiting their exposure to parasite-contaminated grass compared to pastured animals.

Abstract

Natural bentonite from Pacitan - Indonesia as a support in the preparation of Ti and Zr-pillared metal catalysts (Ti-Zr/bent) for esterification reaction were studied. The preparation of Ti-Zr/bent catalyst was prepared to find out the effect of molar ratios (Ti:Zr) where an investigation was performed in the esterification of waste cooking oil. The catalyst was varied as follows: 0.5:1 (Ti-Zr-1/bent), 1:1 (Ti-Zr-2/bent), 1.5:1 (Ti-Zr-3/bent), 2:1 (Ti-Zr-4/bent), and 5:1 (Ti-Zr-5/bent) were used to determine the yield. The reaction was carried out for 3 hours at 150°C and a pressure of 40 bar N2 gasses. The result of the Ti-Zr/bent catalyst was given increasing significantly for surface area of 133–147 m²/g compares to bentonite 27 m²/g and 10 times of acidity. The best catalyst was shown in 2:1 of ratio Ti:Zr (molar) on esterification reaction with succesfuly performed about 80.40% of yield. Copyright © 2025 by Authors, Published by BCREC Publishing Group. Abstract

The community services activity aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the management of the Community-Owned Enterprises (BUMG) in Lamteumen Timur Village, Banda Aceh, in managing and developing their businesses. The method used is a service-learning approach, where students and lecturers from Syiah Kuala University collaborate with BUMG in designing and conducting the training. Needs identification is conducted to understand the challenges faced by BUMG. Training materials are developed based on this identification, focusing on BUMG development and management strategies. The training is conducted directly for BUMG managers and local community members, with monitoring and evaluation to ensure effectiveness. The evaluation results show an improvement in the knowledge and skills of the training participants, as well as a positive impact on BUMG management. Successful BUMDes/BUMG best practice examples are also presented as inspiration. This activity is expected to serve as a model for community engagement activities in other regions.

Abstract

Background: In the elderly, there is a deterioration in the physical structure of the muscles. This includes a decrease in muscle strength and contraction, entering old age, the risk of falling will increase due to additional risk factors. This study will examine the effect of physical activity on the risk of falls in the elderly.Purpose: To understand the differences and impact of physical activity on the risk of falls in the elderly population in Rural and Urban environments.Method: This study used a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted in Boyolali Regency, Central Java, which represents rural areas, and Gonilan as a representative of urban areas. The research was conducted in August 2023 involving 116 participants in each region. Results: The Mann-Whitney test results showed a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, while the Fisher's Exact test resulted in a p-value of 0.538>0.5. Regression test results showed that the coefficient of determination in urban areas was 0.063 and rural areas was 0.029.Conclusion: From the results, it is concluded that there is a difference in physical activity between rural and urban neighborhoods. However, there is no significant difference in the risk of falls in the elderly between urban and rural areas. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the physical activity variable has a 63% influence on the risk of falls in urban areas, while the rest is influenced by other factors in each region.
