Abstract

The aim of this study was to test the ethanol extract of Hongje fruit (Etlingera hemisphaerica) in regulating High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels in mice (Mus musculus). HDL and LDL levels were measured using four treatment groups (one control, two doses of  EEBE, and one dose of simvastatin), with each group with five M. musculus replicates whose pathological conditions were induced by a high-fat diet for 10 days. The extract given consisted of two doses of EEBE, namely (0.26 and 0.39) mg/dl Body Weight (BW) and a comparison dose (simvastatin 0.52 mg/dL BW). Data collection was carried out over a period of 13 days before and after EEBE grant. Based on the BNT test, the average HDL treatment level in the treatment group increased at the EEBE dose (0.39mg/g BW), namely before treatment the HDL level was 39.3 mg/dL and after treatment the HDL level was 41.8mg/dL by 6. 20%. Meanwhile, LDL in the treatment group experienced a decrease at the EEBE dose (0.39 mg/g BW), namely before treatment it was 145.2 mg/dL and after treatment it became 140.8 mg/dL by -3.30%.

Abstract

Local context-based science learning is an effective approach to improve students relevance and understanding. This research aims to reconstruct local knowledge of coastal communities related to the process of making palm sugar as a source of science learning. The research method uses a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and scientific literature reviews. Furthermore, the data were analyzed through triangulation to produce a scientific interpretation of the traditional practice. The results of the study indicate that the process of making palm sugar reflects the principles of sustainability, utilization of renewable energy, and natural preservation. In addition, the integration of science concepts with business and conservation aspects enriches the relevance of learning for students. It can be concluded that the reconstruction of local knowledge is able to support the preservation of local culture and ecosystems while increasing students understanding of applicable science. The contribution of this study to science is to create a sustainable learning approach, relevant to everyday life, and support the preservation of local wisdom in modern education. This integration provides new opportunities to improve scientific literacy in coastal areas by harmoniously connecting traditional knowledge and science.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the antioxidant content in turmeric leaf extract using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The tested concentrations include 200 ppm, 150 ppm, 100 ppm, 50 ppm, 25 ppm, and 12.5 ppm, with absorbance measurements conducted using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed by calculating the percentage of antioxidant activity based on the absorbance values of each concentration. Subsequently, the IC50 value was determined using a nonlinear regression equation, representing the relationship between the logarithm of concentration and the percentage of antioxidant activity (inhibition). The results of the study showed that the IC50 value of turmeric leaf extract was 61.88. The conclusion of this study indicates that turmeric leaf extract exhibits strong antioxidant activity. Abstract

This study purpose to see the levels of bioethanol produced by bagasse and corn husks with yeast, NPK and urea compositions. The method used in the study was an experiment with a predetermined ratio and fermentation time variables of 7, 14, and 21 days. Quantitative data were analyzed by calculating the average bioethanol levels and bioethanol volumes presented in table form. Meanwhile qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the highest bioethanol levels were in composition A (100% yeast) with a bioethanol content of 36,7% fermented for 21 days. The lowest bioethanol levels were in composition B (100% Urea) with a bioethanol content of 3,3% fermentation time of 7 days. The conclusion of this study shows that the volume of bioethanol has no effect on the levels of bioethanol produced, but this is not constant, because it can be influenced by other factors such as the duration of fermentation time, the materials used and the microbiological conditions during the fermentation process.  Keywords: Sugarcane Bagasse, Bioethanol, Corn Husk, Environmentally Friendly Technology.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ethanol content from banana stem and corn cob residues with variations in treatment and fermentation time using a starter culture to accelerate the fermentation process. The method used was an experimental design with treatment variations and fermentation times of 9, 12, and 15 days. Quantitative data were analyzed by measuring the average ethanol content and volume produced for each treatment and fermentation time, then presented in graphical form. The results showed that the highest ethanol content was obtained in treatment A (100% yeast) with 20% ethanol after 15 days of fermentation. In conclusion, the longer the fermentation time, the higher the ethanol content; however, the effect of fermentation time was not always consistent because ethanol content is influenced by the materials used, fermentation duration, and the condition of microorganisms during the fermentation process. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of salung (Psychotria viridiflora) leaf extract on blood glucose levels in hyperglycemic mice (Mus musculus). A total of 25 mice weighing 20–40 grams were divided into five treatment groups: P1 (negative control: feed and distilled water), P2 (alloxan 10 mg/kg BW + glibenclamide 0.1 mg/kg BW), P3 (alloxan 10 mg/kg BW + P. viridiflora leaf extract 0.0112 g/kg BW), P4 (alloxan 10 mg/kg BW + P. viridiflora leaf extract 0.0225 g/kg BW), and P5 (alloxan 10 mg/kg BW + P. viridiflora leaf extract 0.0337 g/kg BW). Blood glucose levels were measured four times—on days 0, 6, 12, and 18—covering baseline measurement, post-alloxan induction, and after treatment administration. The results showed that the highest dose (0.0337 g/kg BW) was the most effective in reducing blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced mice, with an effect comparable to the standard drug glibenclamide. In conclusion, P. viridiflora leaf extract has potential as an alternative herbal antidiabetic therapy in M. musculus.  Keywords: Antidiabetic, Blood Glucose, Extract Leaf, Hyperglycemia, Mus musculus, Psychotria viridiflora
