Abstract

The SIMAS (Mosque Management Information System) application from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs is used to manage data on mosques and musallas online throughout Indonesia. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of data analysis showed a significant increase in services at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Office due to the use of SIMAS. The previous manual data collection on mosques and musallas (musallas) has been replaced with an online method via the SIMAS website with collaboration between various agencies, including the Office of Religious Affairs and sub-districts. It has accelerated and improved effectiveness of services in the office. With adequate human resources, SIMAS has become an efficient tool for inputting data on mosques and musallas. This research highlights the important role of SIMAS in improving efficiency and service at the Kendal Regency Ministry of Religious Affairs Office.

Abstract

Revitalization of culture-based religious sites is an important approach in developing sustainable and local value-based tourist destinations. This research aims to analyze the revitalization strategy of the Tomb of Nyai Sedapu as the epicenter of culture-based religious tourism in Boja, Kendal by referring to the principles of good governance in governance. This research uses a qualitative approach with the methods of observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The results showed that revitalization was carried out through physical development and preservation of cultural values through local traditions. Community participation, legality of management through the village government, and information disclosure are real practices of transparency, accountability and rule of law. However, challenges remain in the limitations of digital promotion and budget support. This research shows that the management of religious sites that apply the principles of good governance can be an alternative model in the development of cultural and spiritual-based tourism.

Abstract

This study investigates da’wah bil hal through religious tourism service innovations at the Sunan Muria Mosque and Tomb Foundation, addressing the limited scholarly attention to how practical service improvements can function as a medium for Islamic proselytization. Using a qualitative descriptive phenomenological approach, the research captures the lived experiences of pilgrims to explore how specific innovations shape their spiritual engagement, sense of comfort, and overall safety during visitation. Rather than merely listing developments, this study analyzes how architectural enhancements, spatial reorganizations, and management reforms collectively foster a conducive environment for da’wah by embodying Islamic values of hospitality, cleanliness, and communal care. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on religious tourism and Islamic communication by demonstrating that service-oriented innovations, when guided by spiritual intent, can reinforce religious identity and deepen pilgrims’ spiritual experiences. This research advances the understanding of da’wah bil hal as a contextual, experience-based form of Islamic outreach embedded in contemporary pilgrimage practices.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of dakwah bil hal at Pondok Pesantren Progresif Fathimah Al-Amin in Ngaliyan, Semarang, and its role in strengthening students’ religious culture. Dakwah bil hal is understood as a form of preaching based on exemplary conduct, habituation, and concrete practices that internalize Islamic values in daily life. Using a qualitative approach involving participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, the study identifies three core strategies: teachers’ moral exemplarity, institutionalized ritual practices, and social interactions that foster collective religious awareness. These strategies contribute to the formation of disciplined, responsible, and morally grounded students. The pesantren also integrates spiritual values into a life-skills based curriculum, linking religious formation with social preparedness. Theoretically, this study enriches contemporary dakwah discourse by emphasizing lived practice as a mechanism of value internalization. Practically, it offers a contextual and sustainable model of character formation relevant to modern educational challenges.

Abstract

Mosques have an important role in meeting the needs of travelers, especially in the midst of increasing community mobility. Masjid Raya Al-Falah Sragen is a strategic example as a traveler-friendly religious stopover. This study aims to examine the role of the mosque in serving travelers and its facility management model. The method used is descriptive qualitative through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results showed that Masjid Raya Al-Falah Sragen, under the management of Ust. Kunadi Ikhwani, provides professional services with a SMART goals-based approach. Management is carried out through digitalization, the formation of the Mosque Executive Board (BEM), and youth regeneration. Available facilities include luggage storage, rest rooms, clean toilets, and cashless technology. This mosque management model emphasizes comfort, safety, and inclusiveness with the IHSAN principle. The mosque not only functions as a place of worship, but also as a community center that supports social and religious development.

Abstract

Religious tourism development is commonly assessed through infrastructure and managerial readiness, yet these perspectives do not fully explain why some pilgrimage sites continue to attract visitors despite weak facilities and informal governance. This article examines the Abuya Syarwani Tomb in Balikpapan, Indonesia, by integrating the 4A framework with Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus, symbolic capital, and field. Using a qualitative case study based on interviews, field observation, and document analysis, the study finds that the site’s main strength lies in symbolic attraction rooted in Abuya Syarwani’s religious authority, historical legacy, and the embedded habitus of pilgrimage. However, this strength has not been converted into adequate accessibility, amenities, or institutional support. Limited transport, weak signage, uneven facilities, and informal family-based management constrain destination development. The study argues that ancillary governance, rather than attraction alone, is the central bottleneck in pesantren-based religious tourism

Abstract

Productive Waqf, Religious Tourism, Central Java Grand Mosque, Islamics Economy, SWOT Analysis The development of religious tourism based on productive waqf funds can serve as an alternative solution to support the financial sustainability of religious tourism destinations in Indonesia. This study focuses on examining the productive waqf fund management system implemented at the Central Java Grand Mosque (MAJT), as well as formulating optimization strategies for productive waqf funds to enhance the potential of the religious tourism sector at MAJT. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method at the Banda Masjid Agung Semarang Waqf Nadzir Foundation. Data were collected through interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that MAJT has implemented an institutional-based productive waqf fund management system that is integrated, professional, and transparent. However, despite the transparent and professional management practices, several challenges remain, including limited funding capacity, role duality within the organizational structure, and suboptimal utilization of technology. To optimize waqf fund management, the recommended strategies include the development of a more standardized management model, the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), diversification of religious tourism products, and the optimization of cash waqf and waqf-linked sukuk. This study is expected to contribute an integrative framework for enhancing the effectiveness of productive waqf management models in the Islamic tourism sector through strategic implementation aimed at promoting equitable and sustainable religious tourism development.
