Abstract

Abstract

Butterflies have a very important ecological role in the ecosystem, one of which is to help pollinate flowering plants. The existence of butterflies in an area is highly dependent on the availability of nectar sources as the main food for adult butterflies. This study aims to identify the species of butterflies found in the Khairun University campus environment and inventory flowering plants that have the potential to become nectar sources. This research was conducted at campus I of Khairun University, Akehuda, North Ternate Subdistrict, Ternate City, North Maluku during November 2024. Data were collected using the visual encounter survey method by directly observing and recording the species of butterflies that flew and landed on flowers, as well as the species of flowering plants found. Data collection was carried out in the morning at 08:00-10:00 WIT and in the in the afternoon at 16:00-18:00 WIT (Eastern Indonesian Time) according to the time of butterfly activity. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the butterflies found in the campus I, Khairun University consist of 8 species from 3 families, namely the Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, and Pieridae families. There are 11 species of flowering plants that have the potential as a source of nectar for butterflies in this campus. Tridax procumbens is a flowering plant species that could be a source of nectar for all species of butterflies in the campus environment of Khairun University.

Abstract

Learning media can help improve understanding and facilitate the interpretation of learning materials. They also play a role in generating enthusiasm and interest in learning among students. The purpose of this research is to develop a learning media website based on Google Sites and to test the validity and practicality of the media that has been developed. The developed website will be used in plant physiology courses on photosynthesis material. The research and development follows the 1974 Thiagarajan model of 4D (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The results showed that the interactive learning website based on Google sites was highly valid for learning, with percentages of 96% from material experts, 96% from media experts and 97% from educational practitioners. The level of practicality of the websites was found to be 91%, as determined by student responses. This means that the learning website development is very valid and feasible to use.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on developing mangrove-based coffee products as part of an effort to innovate the processing of non-timber forest products with high potential in the coastal areas of North Gorontalo. This activity was carried out in response to the high potential of mangrove ecosystems that have not been optimally utilized by coastal communities, particularly in the context of downstreaming products based on the creative economy. The community service was carried out through a series of stages, starting from identifying safe and edible mangrove species, training local community groups, developing mangrove coffee product formulations, and providing marketing assistance. The methods used in this program included counseling, technical production training, branding and marketing workshops, and business sustainability evaluations. Through a participatory approach, coastal communities, particularly women and youth groups, were actively involved in the entire process, facilitating knowledge and technology transfer while empowering the economy. The results showed improved skills in producing mangrove coffee, the establishment of local marketing networks, and the emergence of new entrepreneurial spirit among beneficiaries. Mangrove coffee products have also received positive feedback from both local consumers and tourists due to their uniqueness and added value. This initiative is expected to encourage the diversification of coastal flagship products, increase community income, and promote synergy in the conservation of mangrove ecosystems in North Gorontalo. The active participation of local government stakeholders and related institutions is also key to the sustainability of the program for the development of the coastal region's creative economy.
