Abstract

Abstract

Smart postharvest technology in the form of Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS) is needed to increase the shelf life of shallot.  However, the application of CAS requires high investment costs related to the initial setup such as land, warehouse, CAS, and CAS supporting equipment. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the benefits and costs for farmers' welfare reflected by adding the amount of farming margin and income from other sources considering the time adjustment. This study aims to build a dynamic model for the application of CAS technology in shallot farming and evaluate its costs and benefits for farmers' welfare. The method used is the integration of cost and benefit analysis into a dynamic system model. The results showed that shallot farmers’ income is very sensitive to price changes and increasing storage costs. Hence, adopting CAS technology could mitigate some of these effects by reducing post-harvest losses and allowing farmers to store their production in favorable situations. Moreover, the CAS model showed that in the management level, CAS could be feasible (in terms of NPV, IRR, and Net B/C), if the storage cost is at least IDR 2.000/kg. According to the minimum profit limit for farmers, the maximum storage cost is IDR 1.500/kg, which makes the CAS unfeasible to run. The successful adoption of CAS is contingent upon substantial financial support from both private-sector investors and government entities. Therefore, the CAS technology is more appropriate for adoption by stakeholders in the food industry who require a consistent year-round supply of shallots.

Abstract

This study analyzes consumer preferences and Willingness to Pay (WTP) for organic broiler chicken in the Jabodetabek area. The discrete choice experiment (DCE) method analyzes consumer preferences and WTP based on relevant attributes that are in the market or similar to those in the market. The attributes analyzed were organic label, product form, freshness, taste, and price. These five attributes were selected based on a literature review. The study was conducted on 105 respondents who had experience buying and consuming it. Data were collected online from September to October 2024. The results showed that consumers prefer organic broiler chicken with organic labels, cuts/parts, fresh, and tasty. Conversely, high prices can decrease consumers' utility. Consumers are willing to pay IDR Rp96,883/kg more for organic broilers with organic labels, IDR 22,516/kg for cuts/parts, IDR 34,101/kg for fresh, and IDR 70,634/kg for tasty. This study emphasizes the importance of organic certification in increasing consumer confidence and the provision of organic broilers in practical and fresh forms. Producers and marketers are advised to prioritize product quality and convenience and develop marketing strategies highlighting the superior taste and health benefits of this product.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Agrifood, kemitraan, kepercayaan, rantai pasok, teknologi digital, transparansi                                                              ABSTRACT Transparency is a critical element in fostering effective and sustainable partnerships within the agrifood supply chain. Mechanisms such as information sharing, traceability, and the adoption of digital technologies like blockchain and IoT play a pivotal role in enabling openness among supply chain actors. Through a systematic literature review of 16 relevant scientific articles, this study identifies the forms and mechanisms of transparency, as well as the factors that influence it. The findings reveal that transparency is shaped by three main dimensions: internal organizational factors (human, structural, and relational capital), external pressures such as regulation and market demands, and relational dynamics characterized by commitment and trust. Collaboration supported by transparent information flows not only enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens consumer trust and supply chain sustainability. The study provides both theoretical and practical contributions to the development of transparency strategies in the agrifood sector.
