Abstract

Water is a natural resource whose quality needs to be maintained. In order to protect against pollution or achieve good river water quality, it is necessary to make good water management efforts to maintain water functions in accordance with water quality standards. The purpose of this research is to analyze the water quality of the Batangtoru River and the factors that affect the water quality of the Batangtoru River. This research was conducted in the river located in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, for two months in November and December 2020 with test parameters Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Biological parameters in the form of Biological Dissolved Oxygen (BOD), E.Colli, and chemical parameters in the form of Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Nitrite (NO2-N), and Ammonia (NH3- N). The research results showed that the water quality of the Batangtoru river was: TSS 50 mg/L, BOD 3 mg/L, Cu 0.02 mg/L, Zn 0.05 mg/L, Cd 0.01 mg/L, NO2-N 0.06 mg/L, NH3-N and E. Colli 0 mg/L. These results based on PP 82 of 2001 show that the test parameter values have exceeded water quality standards. And it is included in class II, which means that the quality of the Batangtoru River is experiencing light pollution.

Abstract

The role of companies as actors in production processes that utilize nature and resources is crucial. Therefore, to reduce increasing environmental degradation, companies carry out activities that are not only aimed at making profits but also pay more attention to survival, nature preservation, and socio-economic communities in the areas where they operate through corporate social responsibility (CSR). This research aims to evaluate the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and environmental management carried out by PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (PT SMGP) and their impact on the local communities around the company's operational area. This evaluation includes the effectiveness and efficiency of the CSR programs implemented by PT SMGP, as well as the environmental management efforts undertaken. The data collection methods used are observation methods, interview methods, and documentation methods. The source of information in this research uses primary and secondary data. The research shows that, first, the company's CSR programs include relationship building, public services, and community empowerment. Second, environmental management activities carried out by the company are still not effective and efficient because many bad incidents occur, such as gas poisoning, noise, and drought.

Abstract

This research was conducted on young people from Papua who studied in Medan at 3 state universities, namely: University of North Sumatra, Medan State University, and Medan State Polytechnic. a total population of 147 and taken as a sample of 35% (50) of the total population taken at random (simple random sampling) research members in this population are considered homogeneous. This research was conducted in December 2019 - February 2020. The results showed the value of Product Moment correlation between the education of young Papuan students and nationalism in the city of Medan. Product Moment correlation value is 0.509 greater than 0.5 which indicates the education of young Papuan students and nationalism is very closely correlated. Given the Sig (2-tailed) value is 0,000 <significance level of 0.05, it is concluded that the education of young Papuan students and nationalism has a significant correlation. In other words, the better a person's education is, the higher the person's nationalism level.

Abstract

Aquaculture is an industry that has a tremendous opportunity. Indonesia's aquaculture prospects are rising. Langkat Regency is a region in Sumatera Utara Province located in the East Coastal Region with good options for brackish water aquaculture. There are four goals in this study. This study aimed to analyze the distribution of shrimp aqua farm locations in the Secanggang District, investigate the type of shrimp aquaculture in the district, analyze the economic aspects of shrimp aquaculture in Secanggang District and study the optimal aquaculture strategy as a priority for developing coastal areas in Secanggang District. This study uses a quantitative approach to conduct a descriptive study. Three steps are applied to analyze the data: Regional distribution, economic, and analytical hierarchy. The study shows that the aqua farms in Secanggang District are located in the production area, converted forest area, wildlife nature reserve, and production forest. There are four types of Shrimp aquaculture in Secanggang District: intensive, semi-intensive, traditional, and natural/organic. The study also shows the economic analysis of costs, income, and the efficiency of R/C ratios per cycle on four types of aquaculture. This study also indicates that shrimp aquaculture using the intensive technique is the most appropriate and priority for shrimp aqua farming development in Secanggang District.

Abstract

The number of paddy production in Labuhanbatu Utara Regency, North Sumatera Province, Indonesia, continues to decline from year to year, partly due to the reduction in the area of paddy fields. This was caused by land conversion from paddy fields to non-paddy fields. This research aims to analyze the pattern of changes in the process of paddy fields to non-paddy fields in Labuhanbatu Utara Regency and its suitability on the regional spatial plan between 2017 and 2021. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data was processed and analyzed using an overlapping method on biophysical data, existing conditions, and other thematic data, using Geographic Information System. The results showed that there had been a reduction in the area from paddy fields to non-paddy fields of 2,992.88 hectares from 2017-2021. It is dominated by conversion from paddy fields to oil palm areas of 2,795.58 hectares. The conversion suitability of paddy fields to non-paddy fields in 2017-2021 against Labuhanbatu Utara regional spatial plan is 21.92 percent, while 78.08 percent is not. To maintain food security in Labuhanbatu Utara Regency, the government should tighten supervision of the implementation of the regional spatial plan as well as increase the allocation of paddy fields.

Abstract

Penatapan Doulu is one of the popular tourist areas in Karo Regency, Indonesia. Tourism activities cause waste problems that have the potential to pollute the surrounding environment. This study aims to analyze and evaluate waste problems in the Penatapan Doulu tourism area which includes waste management policies and methods, as well as providing future considerations for proposed waste management strategies through the concept of collaborative management. This study analyzes all kinds of waste generated from 30 restaurants located in the Penatapan Doulu tourist area. The method for calculating waste generation and composition is based on SNI 19-3964-1994. The results showed that the total waste generation reached 76.03 kg/day with the waste composition dominated by plastic 42.02%, fruit peels 28.07%, and food 13.46%. Evaluation of the current condition obtained a value of 2.58 which is categorized as moderate. Proposed strategies that need to be carried out in the Penatapan Doulu tourist area are making trash bins based on the type of waste and pilot village programs which are a concrete manifestation of synergy between stakeholders and handling waste problems must be carried out by all parties with collaborative management carried out effectively.Â
