Abstract

High blood pressure or hypertension is a serious medical condition that significantly increases the risk of heart, brain, kidney, and other organ diseases. Most people with hypertension do not show specific symptoms and remain in good condition to perform routine activities. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and compliance of hypertensive patients. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted at Puskesmas Manggis I Karangasem from March to May 2023 using a validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 25.0. A total of 120 respondents participated (100% response rate). Most of respondents were >65 years old (37.5%); male (61.7%); had secondary education (65.8%); not working (28.3%); had grade 1 hypertension (70.8%), and had no comorbidities (80.8%). Patient knowledge was categorized as good (109 [90.8%]), attitude was positive (75 [62.5%]), and medication compliance was high (79 [65.9%]). The results of the chi-square test showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and compliance (p-value=0.002), and there was a significant relationship between attitude and compliance (p-value=0.006). Knowledge and attitudes of hypertensive patients must continue to be improved so that patients comply to their medication therapy. Pharmacists are advised to conduct counseling on lifestyle, dietary patterns, and information related to complications in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Background: The use of antibiotics that are not in accordance with the indications, doses, and duration can trigger resistance and there is concern that it might leave antibiotic residues in the processed product. Aim of this study was to detect the antibacterial activity of livestock products, namely chicken meat and eggs and the surrounding environment such as drinking water, animal feed and waste disposal. This study was a preliminary study before the establishment of antibiotic wise village, One Health approach for antimicrobial stewardship program. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design to determine antibacterial activity, particularly tetracycline in livestock products and the environment. The research samples were taken from 5 groups of farmers in one of the villages in Tabanan, Bali. Bioassay method based on the Kirby Bauer method was used in this study. Results: From a total of 44 samples, 6 samples showed weak antibiotic tetracycline activity (13.6%), namely in waste disposal (20%) and animal feed (40%). Antibiotic contamination was likely to occur because the animal feed used in this group contains antibiotics with or without the knowledge of the farmers themselves. Disposal waste came from livestock manure that ate the feed or from animal feed that was scattered around the cage. Conclusion: Samples of livestock meat and eggs did not show antibacterial activity. There were samples that have antibiotic activity but weak and inconsistent, namely in samples of waste disposal and animal feed. This condition cannot necessarily be concluded as antibiotic abuse in livestock however it can be the basis for the importance of providing education regarding antimicrobial resistance. Unless there was indication, antibiotics should not be given to livestock on a daily basis.

Abstract

Telepharmacy describes the use of technology in interactions between pharmacists and patients. Given that telepharmacy is the most recent development in the delivery of digital pharmacy services, the question of how prepared pharmacists are to provide high-quality services frequently comes up and receives attention. The purpose of this study was to determine the viewpoints of pharmacists in telepharmacy services. From February to April 2023, a cross-sectional survey was done using a Google form. The study population included 111 pharmacists in charge of network pharmacies in Bali Province. Their thoughts were assessed using a credible and reliable questionnaire created by the researchers. The questions were split into two sections: a professional demographic items, and a section describing the perspectives, benefits, and challenges of telepharmacy. To get a more detailed or comprehensive response, open-ended questions were added. In general, especially during a pandemic, pharmacists were aware of being involved in remote services (non-face-to-face interaction) and telepharmacy services. This study makes clear that pharmacists' involvement is essential for creating a long-distance relationship between them and their patients. Therefore, pharmacists should learn how crucial communication is to increase patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: Respiratory Tract Infections are among the most common health problems affecting children globally, with a particularly high prevalence in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Inappropriate antibiotic use in treating respiratory tract infections can lead to antibiotic resistance. This study evaluates the rationality of antibiotic use in pediatric respiratory tract infections cases and assesses prescribing patterns based on established guidelines. Method: A descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted using purposive sampling. Data collected from 130 medical records of pediatric patients with respiratory tract infections (from January to March 2024) at a primary health care center in Tabanan, Bali were analyzed. The Gyssens method evaluated antibiotic rationality based on dosage, duration, and clinical indications. Data were analyzed descriptively to determine antibiotic prescribing patterns and compared with national antibiotic use guidelines. Results: The results showed that 46.1% of antibiotic use was included in the rational category (Category 0), while 43.1% were included in the use without clear indications (Category V). Amoxicillin is the most widely prescribed antibiotic (90.8%). These findings indicate a tendency to use antibiotics not by clinical guidelines. Conclusion: The use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with respiratory tract infections is mostly suboptimal. Interventions are needed to improve compliance with rational antibiotic use guidelines, including education for healthcare workers and ongoing monitoring of antibiotic prescribing patterns
