Abstract

Globalization has created challenges for Islamic educational institutions in maintaining their identity while adapting to changing educational demands. In this context, principals play an important role in strengthening teachers’ Islamic character and enhancing school resilience through leadership practices that integrate professional, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. This study aims to examine the principal’s integrative Islamic leadership practices at SD IT Al-Busyro in strengthening teacher character and school resilience. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, classroom teachers, and Ummi teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility ensured through triangulation. The findings reveal that the principal’s leadership is implemented through five interconnected practices: systematic teacher professional development, integration of academic and spiritual roles through collaboration between classroom and Ummi teachers, cultivation of a religious school culture, strengthening teachers’ spiritual growth, and developing participatory communication. These practices demonstrate that teacher character and school resilience are not achieved through administrative management alone but through an integrative leadership approach that combines professional competence, Islamic values, and collective responsibility. This study contributes to Islamic educational leadership studies by highlighting how institutional resilience can be developed through the synergy between organizational support and internalized religious values while maintaining Islamic identity amid globalization.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), has profoundly transformed the landscape of education, prompting vital questions regarding the role of human educators in the teaching and learning process. As educational institutions increasingly integrate AI-driven tools, the challenge of incorporating moral and ethical values within the framework of Islamic education becomes increasingly pressing in this digital age. This study aims to explore the intricate relationship between humans as rational beings and the influence of AI in educational practices, with a particular emphasis on Islamic perspectives. Utilizing a qualitative research method, the research employs a literature review approach to analyze a variety of relevant scholarly sources. The findings reveal that while AI has the potential to significantly enhance learning efficiency through personalized learning experiences and data-driven insights, the indispensable role of human educators persists in guiding students' character formation and moral development. Furthermore, effective education extends beyond mere knowledge transfer; it encompasses the nurturing of values and ethics that prepare students for responsible citizenship. Ultimately, these findings offer new insights into how the collaboration between human educators and AI technology can foster a more enriching educational environment aligned with the principles of Islamic education, ensuring that moral and ethical considerations remain central to the learning experience.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) face growing challenges in preserving traditional Islamic values while responding to educational modernization and changing student behavior. This study examines how the Qismu Riayah division at Darullughah Wadda'wah Islamic Boarding School integrates Islamic values with contemporary student behavior management to support holistic student development. A qualitative case study design was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews involving 37 informants, non-participant observations, and institutional document analysis. The findings reveal that Qismu Riayah functions not only as a disciplinary unit but also as a structured mentoring and character-development system. Traditional Islamic values, including ikhlas (sincerity), adab (ethics), discipline, and collective responsibility, are embedded in daily mentoring, dormitory supervision, and counseling, while contemporary approaches such as peer mentoring, positive reinforcement, and restorative practices strengthen students' behavioral and emotional development. The study demonstrates that Islamic values and modern student management practices are complementary rather than contradictory. It contributes to Islamic educational management by proposing an integrative model that bridges traditional pesantren values with contemporary student behavior management, providing practical insights for character education in modern Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study examines prophetic leadership strategies of school principals in improving graduate quality in Islamic elementary schools, addressing the limited empirical studies that explain how prophetic values are operationalized within school leadership practices and their contribution to educational outcomes. The study aims to develop a conceptual understanding of the relationship between prophetic leadership and graduate quality improvement. A qualitative approach with a multi-case study design was employed in SDIT Al-Ittihad Sukabumi and SD Aisyiyah Islamic Center Cianjur. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving principals, teachers, education staff, foundation administrators, school committees, and parents. Data analysis followed data condensation, data display, conclusion drawing, and cross-case analysis, with validity ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that both principals integrate the prophetic values of Siddiq, Amanah, Tabligh, and Fathanah into school management, although through different approaches. SDIT Al-Ittihad Sukabumi emphasizes participatory leadership, exemplary conduct, and religious culture, while SD Aisyiyah Islamic Center Cianjur adopts data-driven governance, structured communication, and instructional innovation. In both schools, prophetic values strengthen organizational culture, teacher professionalism, stakeholder collaboration, and learning quality, contributing to graduates with academic competence, Islamic character, and 21st-century skills. The study offers a practical framework for translating prophetic values into leadership practices, governance systems, and teacher development programs. The model may support principal development and quality assurance processes in Islamic schools. As the study is limited to two schools, the findings should be interpreted within their specific contexts. This study proposes a conceptual model of prophetic leadership strategy that links prophetic values, leadership practices, organizational culture, and graduate quality, contributing to the development of Islamic educational leadership theory and offering practical insights for school leadership improvement.

Abstract

Lecturer performance is a strategic factor in improving the quality of higher education, which is not only determined by individual competence, but also by the leadership environment that oversees it. This study aims to analyze the influence of democratic leadership style on lecturers' performance with work motivation as a mediating variable. The research design used is quantitative with an explanatory research approach. The research population consisted of 27 permanent lecturers in the Arabic Language Education Study Program at STIQ Amuntai, all of whom were sampled using saturated sampling techniques. Data were collected using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire, accompanied by observation and documentation. Path analysis is used to test the relationships between variables, accompanied by the Sobel test to confirm the mediation effect. The results of the study show that the democratic leadership style has a significant effect on the work motivation and performance of lecturers, both directly and through the mediation effect of work motivation. The implications of these findings confirm the importance of implementing participatory leadership in the university environment as a strategy to enhance work motivation, improve lecturer performance, and promote the achievement of sustainable educational quality standards.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia are transforming, not only as centers of religious education but also as agents of economic empowerment through the development of entrepreneurship based on Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the strategies for forming santripreneur character, the transformation of students’ entrepreneurial spirit, and the empowerment model in managing business units at Pesantren Al Ma’ruf Kediri. Using a qualitative method with a case study approach, data were collected through participatory observation in business units (laundry, culinary, fisheries, etc.), in-depth interviews with caregivers, teachers (ustadz), and students (santri), as well as document analysis. The findings reveal that entrepreneurship education at this pesantren is holistically integrated through formal learning, seminars, study circles (halaqah), mentoring, and direct practice (experiential learning). This strategy effectively instills pesantren values such as independence, sincerity, honesty, and work ethic as a spiritual foundation in business, while simultaneously avoiding usury (riba) and exploitation. The empowerment model, based on structured mentoring and a task rotation system, successfully enhances the students’ entrepreneurial self-efficacy, fosters leadership qualities, and promotes the pesantren’s economic independence. In conclusion, the pesantren is capable of producing a generation of santripreneurs who are pious, morally upright, financially independent, and serve as agents of Islamic economic change adaptable to global dynamics.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic management of educational marketing implemented at MAN Mempawah to enhance the institution’s competitiveness amidst digital disruption. Amidst increasing competition among educational institutions, reliance on single-channel marketing is no longer sufficient; therefore, a hybrid approach is needed. This study used a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the madrasah principal and public relations staff, participant observation of marketing activities, and documentation of digital assets. The findings indicate that: (1) Marketing planning involves meticulous market segmentation and the development of unique value propositions through academic and non-academic excellence, such as specialized technology programs and religious curricula; (2) Implementation strategies rely on the synergy between traditional Word of Mouth (WOM) and modern Digital Branding. While WOM, driven by alumni achievements and community-based social programs (e.g., free medical treatment), builds deep trust, digital platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube amplify this trust to a wider audience. The study concludes that the integration of “human-touch” social proof into “high-tech” digital narratives creates strong brand equity that significantly influences parental decision-making. The adaptive leadership of the madrasah principal in orchestrating these two poles is a key driver in maintaining the relevance and sustainability of madrasahs in the competitive educational landscape.

Abstract

Management of facilities and infrastructure in Islamic boarding schools is a crucial factor in supporting the quality of education, but academic studies in this area are still limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation of facility and infrastructure management at Dalwa Islamic Boarding School based on Islamic values, describe its management cycle, identify challenges and opportunities, and formulate an integrated management model. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The results show that Dalwa Islamic Boarding School has internalized Islamic values (amanah, ikhlas, efficiency, anti-israf, and maslahah) in the management of facilities and infrastructure. The management cycle includes six continuous stages: planning through annual deliberations, procurement based on the best specifications, distribution, use with an orderly schedule, preventive and educational maintenance involving students, and disposal of assets through transparent and documented procedures. Challenges faced include limited competent human resources, a suboptimal documentation system, tensions between tradition and modernization, and demands for environmental sustainability. Available opportunities include the adoption of information technology, strategic partnerships with the government and corporations, and the development of a green Islamic boarding school model. This study proposes a Values-Based and Technology-Based Infrastructure Management (MSPBNT) model supported by three pillars: integration of Islamic values, a structured management system, and adoption of information technology. This model is expected to serve as a reference for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in managing facilities and infrastructure effectively, efficiently, accountably, and in an educational and Islamic manner.

Abstract

Improving graduate quality has become a strategic priority for Islamic educational institutions in responding to increasingly complex educational demands. However, studies examining how strategic leadership is enacted through academic supervision in pesantren-based madrasah remain limited. This study aims to analyze how strategic leadership is implemented through academic supervision to improve graduate quality at pesantren-based madrasah. A qualitative case study design was employed at Madrasah Aliyah Pondok Pesantren Alkhairaat Mainatul Ilmi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving the principal, teachers, vice principals, and students. The data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while credibility was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings reveal that strategic leadership is translated into a collaborative and mentoring-oriented academic supervision process aligned with the vision and values of the pesantren. This approach strengthens teachers’ professional efficacy, improves instructional quality, and contributes to better academic achievement and character development among students. The study concludes that integrating strategic leadership with adaptive academic supervision creates a sustainable mechanism for improving graduate quality. These findings contribute to the literature by demonstrating that the integration of value-based leadership and collaborative supervision within the unique culture of pesantren offers an effective model for enhancing educational quality in Islamic schools.
