Abstract

Petroleum reserves in Indonesia are increasingly depleted, requiring the use of alternative energy that is environmentally friendly and renewable like biodiesel. Biodiesel can be made by transesterification process of vegetable oils. Process of making biodiesel commonly use homogeneous catalyst which has the disadvantage the formation of by products such as complexity of the separation of catalyst. Therefore, in this study biodiesel was synthesized from calophyllum inophyllum oil by using geopolymer catalyst. Geopolymer catalyst is first synthesized by reacting sodium silicate, metakaolin, NaOH, and water. Several variations of the process variables were done to assess its influence on yield of biodiesel. The variables were used consist of a dependent variables and independent variables. The dependent variables were calophyllum inophyllum oil weight of 50 grams, 3%-wt of catalyst concentration, reaction time of 120 minutes, and stirring speed of 400 rpm, while the independent variables which variation molar ratio of oil:methanol 1:6 and 1:9 and variations of temperature 55 and 65 oC. Physical characterization were done including density 871 kg/m3, kinematic viscosity 4.38 mm2/s, acid number 0.41 mg-KOH/g biodiesel and flash point 140°C respectively accordance with the standards of Indonesian biodiesel (SNI 7182:2015).Keywords: biodiesel, catalyst, calophyllum inophyllum oil, geopolymer, yield

Abstract

Processing of palm oil into Crude Palm Oil (CPO) will produce a large amount of liquid waste. To produce a ton of crude palm oil (CPO) produced 6 m3 of palm oil mill effluent. In this study, a process for removing organic compounds in wastewater using the advanced oxidation process by combining peroxymonosulfate (2KHS5.KHSO4.K2SO4) and a catalyst of LaMnO3 Perovskite. The combination will produce sulfate free radicals that capable degrading harmful organic compounds in effluent effectively. Nanocrystalline LaMnO3 was obtained by calcination at a temperature of 800 °C for 2 hours with an average crystal diameter of the highest peak of 29 nm in the shape of the Rhombohedral catalyst and the catalyst has qualified the catalyst with a nanoparticle structure. Several variations of oxidation process variables were performed to assess their effect on organic matter decline. Some fixed variables were oxidation reaction temperature 30 oC, reaction time 120 min, stirring speed 400 rpm, and concentration of peroxymonosulfate solution 2 g/L, pH of liquid waste is 8 and catalyst concentration 0,4 g / L. Conclution of this research is efficiency of 80.5 % for decreasing COD and efficiency by 15,6% for TOC reduction. This proved that the LaMnO3 catalyst is capable of activating peroxymonosulfate. Keywords : AOP, LaMnO3 Perovskite, Oxidation, Peroxymonosulfate

Abstract

Research has been conducted to manufacture Ni/NZA for catalytic cracking of empty palm fruit bunches into liquid fuel. The study aims to investigate the impact of metal impregnation and calcination time variations on catalyst crystallinity and morphology. The catalyst is produced in multiple stages, including NZ activation using acid, followed by metal impregnation at 0%, 1%, 3%, and 5% w/w, and calcination at 500oC for 2, 4, and 6 hours, respectively. It is then oxidized at 400oC for 2 hours and reduced at 400oC for 2 hours. The catalyst's crystallinity, morphology, and metal distribution are determined through X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. The catalyst with the best crystallinity and metal distribution is found to have 3% metal loading and a calcination time of 2 hours.

Abstract

Class IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Takengon generally find it difficult to understand the mathematics learning material contained in the school textbook, besides that the teacher also feels that textbooks as teaching materials still do not help students in learning both at school and independently, so it is very necessary to have other teaching materials that can overcome this. Therefore the researcher felt that this research was very suitable to be carried out. This Research and Development (R&D) research uses the Rowntree development model whose goal is to develop math modules with the STEAM approach on curved side space material that is valid and practical for use in junior high school mathematics learning. The development process consists of three stages, namely the planning, development and evaluation stages using the formative evaluation procedure from Tessmer. Based on this development stage, a mathematics module with the STEAM approach has been produced which contains curved side geometrical material and can be categorized as very valid (content validation 4.54 and media validation 4.75) and also very practical based on one to one evaluation (teacher response 96.96% and student response 98.97%) and small group evaluation of 92.11%.

Abstract

The rapid development of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production has led to an increase in the production of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) as well. POME will cause problems in the environment because contains high contaminants. This study aims to investigate the effect of the coagulant Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC) variations and the membranes operating pressure on the POME treatment process using the nanofiltration membrane (NF) with the coagulation-flocculation process as pre-treatment. The PAC was used in the coagulation-flocculation process with variations in concentration (5.0; 5.5; 6.0; 6.5; 7.0 g/L). The process was completed by a rapid stirring of 200 rpm for 5 minutes, followed with slow stirring at 60 rpm for 15 minutes and settling time for 30 minutes. The process of membrane nanofiltration was carried out for 60 minutes with variations in operating pressure (8.0; 9.0; and 10 bars). In each treatment process, effluent quality testing was carried out with Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and oil/fat as parameters. In addition, an analysis of permeate fluxes and rejection of NF membrane was also carried out. The results of the analysis suggested that the best coagulant doses are 6.0 g/L with the reduction percentage of BOD, COD, TSS and oil/fat at 78.85%; 68.57%; 92.77% and 92.31% respectively. The highest percentage of NF membrane rejection was found at a pressure of 10 bar, which is equal to 94.71%; 94.86%; 97.92% and 95% respectively for BOD, COD, TSS and oil/fat with a flux value of 7.16 L/m2.hours.
