Abstract. Blended learning is a learning model that lecturers can apply to optimize the learning outcomes. This study, entitled "The Effectiveness of Blended Learning to Increase Student Motivation" aims to determine the extent of the effectiveness of Blended Learning in increasing the learning motivation on the first semester students of the English Literature Study Program at Khairun University. This research was carried out at the English Literature Study Program a quasi-experimental study designed on using the non-equivalent control group design. A total of 50 on the first semester students were sampled in this study. The sample was divided into 2 classes, experimental class used blended learning and the control class used face-to-face learning, each consisted of 25 students. The learning motivation questionnaire was used as the instrument in collecting the data related to students learning motivation. The results showed that there were significant differences between students learning motivation in the experimental class and students in the control class after had been given different treatments. The researcher also found that the application of Blended Learning was effective in increasing the learning motivation of the first semester students of English Literature Study Program at Khairun University.

ABSTRAKÂ Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini merupakan salah satu bagian dari Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi yang harus dilaksanakan oleh civitas akademika, khususnya para Dosen Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Khairun. Dalam pengabdian ini selain melibatkan Dosen Universitas Khairun, juga melibatkan mahasiswa Program Studi Sastra Inggris dan Himpunan Pelajar Mamuya IPMM. Adapun kegiatan yang dilakukan dalam pengabdian ini adalah Dialog Budaya dan diskusi sastra lisan, Pengenalan Program Studi Sastra Inggris dan Pentas Seni oleh Tim Unkhair dan Masyarakat Mamuya. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah membekali para mahasiswa sastra Inggris dalam berkegiatan sosial di masyarakat, disertai dengan keterampilan bahasa Inggris secara aktif dan komunikatif baik lisan maupun tulisan.Â Hasil kegiatan yang dilakukan ini memberikan dampak positif bagi masyarakat di desa Mamuya dan civitas akademika Universitas Khairun, terbukti dengan bentuk antusias para pemuda-pemudi desa turut aktif berperan sejak hari kedatangan sampai dengan berakhirnya kegiatan, serta pihak desa meminta kepada tim Unkhair untuk memprogramkan kegiatan lanjutan, khususnya sastra lisan sebagai warisan budaya desa Mamuya, hal ini Â sesuai dengan tujuan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat yakni bermanfaat bagi masyarakat. \Â Kata Kunci : Budaya, Intelektual, Masyarakat, Pengabdian. Sastra Lisan.Â Â Â Â Â Â ABSTRACTÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Community Service is one part of Tridharma of the college required by academician, especially for the lecturers of the Cultural and Science Faculty, Khairun University. In this community service, besides involving Â lecturers, it also involves students of Â English Literature Study Program and the IPMM Mamuya Student Association. The activities carried out in this service are Cultural Dialogue and oral literature discussions, Introduction to the English Literature Study Program and Art Performances by the Unkhair Team and Society. The purpose of this activity is to equip English literature students of social activities in the community, be active and communicative in Â English, both oral and written. The results of these activities had a positive impact to the community in Mamuya and the academic community of Khairun University, as evidenced by the enthusiastic of the activist taking an active role from the day of arrival until the end of the activity, as well as the host team asked Â to follow-up program activities, especially oral literature as a cultural heritage of Mamuya, this is in accordance with the purpose of Community Service which is to give benefit to the community.Â Keywords : Culture, Intellectual, Society, Community Service. Socialization of the prevention of the Corona virus through videos in the New Normal era aims (1) to provide the information to the public and knowledge about preventing the spread of the Coronavirus, starting from wearing a mask, washing hands, social distance, safe from Coronavirus transmission, maintaining immunity and (2)to provide an education to the society in preventing the spread of the Coronavirus in the New Normal era. In producing the video itself, it was carried out several stages, including; making a timeline for socialization activities and a video script. The next step is taking videos such as; Taking Videos of some students who will do the socialization, taking videos to appeal the prevention of COVID-19 in the New Normal era by the Head of English Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The next is video editing, which will be merging and editing the videos that have been taken. The last is publishing through several social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, and on DVD for internal production of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences Khairun University.

The community service activities by Unkhair team in the form of English language skills training in Ternate communities aims to increase the enthusiasm of community members to learn English and improve English skills through effective, creative and fun learning, in this case through media games. The method used prioritizes courage in speaking without worrying about being wrong in pronunciation or expression in using English. The sample are around 40 participants by the community members in Ternate. Games are used as English communication media between mentor and participants. Finally, the result of this activity is the increase of English ability of the participants in using games, therefore the learning process is more effectice, creative, and fun.

Mass media is one of the great services utilized by people who have the purpose of selling goods and providing services to the public. Mass media is the right market to promote an item or service so that choosing the right diction is a must. The purpose of this study is to identify the meaning of the sentence in the Sampoerna Mild cigarette advertisement "nggak ada Loe, nggak Rame". The research method used is descriptive qualitative using an approach that are hermeneutic and semiotic. The results of the study show that the choice of words in the advertisement has a very persuasive and interesting meaning which has very close social relations. The meaning of " nggak ada Loe, nggak Rame" is a good diction for teenagers who are quickly affected to their peers. This is because teenagers are more likely to like to hang out with their teenage friends. Language, culture and society have strong and good connection.

Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk's (RDP) literary work is a part of the work considered in the world because in some countries the literary work is one of the materials studied by students as academic studies. The purpose of this study is to examine the nature of RDP's work by looking at the ontology of the creation of these literary works. This research uses sociology of literature approach by looking at the relation between the literary works with the community context. The results of this study are that the RDP literature illustrates the tense state of political struggle and social conditions at that time. This work also explains the atmosphere of a small village with various community characters full of erotic lifestyles. This is illustrated through the Ronggeng figure namely Srintil and the inner complication of Rasus who hates the inaugural process of Srintil who will become ronggeng. One of the night process of not having mosquito nets is a ritual to become a ronggeng. Auctions of virginity like this occur in the Hamlet of Paruk, the value of sexuality highlighted by Tohari as one of the harsh criticisms that women are more valued and protected. Literary works in the form of novels written by Tohari are not only literary works that can be read and enjoyed, but Tohari emphasizes on moral values that must be imbedded in community.

Convensional Learning Model, such as lecturing method which makes teacher as the learning center without notice to the activeness and participation of students in the classroom still becomes teachers’ favourite style in teaching reading comprehension. Consequently, the learning process tends to be monotonous. This factor can answer the reason why the students’ achievement in reading skill at SMA 2 Ternate is not optimal. Then, this is suspected to be a factor in the occurrence of these problems. Therefore, the researcher applied TBLT (Task Based Language Teaching) and combine it with authentic material in reading comprehension. This research is a quasi-experimental research with the nonequivalent pretest-posttest group design. The total population of this study were students of XI SMA Negeri 2 Ternate, who were class XI students of SMA Negeri 2 Kota Ternate. One of the XI classes was used as the experimental class and another one became the control class, then it analyzed by using SPSS 20.0. The selection of the class was based on the observation to see the similarity of students' abilities in these classes. The result showed that the TBLT method combined with the authentic material in the Reading Comprehension could increase: (1) the learning motivation of XI SMA 2 Ternate students; (2) increasing the student learning outcomes. It can be seen from the results of the Paired Sample t-test table that the significance = 0.000 is less than the significant level (α) = 0.05, then H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there has been an increasing of learning outcomes in the experimental class from pre-test to post-test. Based on the result, the TBLT method can be recommended as a method used to increase English learning motivation.

This research discuss about the Hybridity in the novel “The Lowland” by Jhumpa Lahiri viewed from Postcolonial Theory. The research focused on the hybridity culture in the novel and the impact of hybridity culture that reflected to the character in the novel. The method of this research used descriptive analysis method to describe problems in the forms of narration and analysis. This research used postcolonial theory of Hommi Bhaba hybridity to help on understanding the hybridity, or mix of two or more culture in the primary data, then to match with the real condition in India from the library research and internet search about the important events that related to postcolonialism theory about the postcolonial era that effected into the Indian culture in the novel then caused a hybridity culture. The result of this research is, the researcher finds the forms of hybridity which is reflected through the character in the novel. The forms of hybridity in the mix of British and Indian culture are hybridity culture, hybridity language, and hybridity in race and between three forms of hybridity the researcher found the dominant one is hybridity culture. The researcher also found the impact of hybridity culture that created the blurred copy of first and second culture, and then, make the domination position of one another and inferior culture Alienation and discriminate on the “third space”.

Implementation of Problem-Based Learning Model in TOEFL Preparation Program at Khairun University Adam, Sutisno; Magfirah, Sulmi

This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of the implementation of TOEFL Preparation in order to increase the students’ TOEFL test scores, then the scores can be used for academic purposes. The research conducted was an experimental study with a paired-sample t-test. Participants consisted of 20 selected students at Khairun University, namely through pretest, treatment (listening, structure, reading), and posttest. The research method used two types of instruments: pre-test, which used to measure the TOEFL test initial score, and post-test, which was used to measure the final score. The data collected from both the pre-test and post-test is then analyzed by using the paired-sample t-test in SPSS. The result showed that there were significant differences between students' scores in the pre-test and post-test in the three sections: Listening, Structure and written Expression, and Reading Comprehension. It also showed that the overall TOEFL preparation class students have increased scores. The part that has the biggest difference was the reading skill compared to the previous two sections. The students’ maximum score increased in the post-test in all three sections which means there was an increase of the score. The effectiveness of this program was strongly supported by the implemented learning model, namely PBL. The implementation of PBL in this program is very relevant because students are guided to identify the problems that usually arise in TOEFL questions and how to solve them.

Vocabulary is an essential part of a language. In Indonesia, especially in Ternate, many students struggle to enrich their vocabulary on mastering English. Students find difficulties in learning English and strategies in learning vocabulary. Therefore, this study aims to investigates vocabulary strategies for English learners. The research purposes were: 1) to determine the students' strategies in learning vocabulary and 2) to determine the dominant strategies used by university students. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative design, and the subjects of the study were students of Khairun University, consisting of 59 students. The data of the study were collected through a questionnaire. The result found that students used all types of vocabulary learning strategies. However, they used the memory and cognitive learning strategy more often than other strategies. Additionally, using a dictionary, repeatedly spelling the word in mind, and consciously contacting the target language through various media were the dominant strategies used by the students.
