Abstract

Today, especially among industrialized and developing nations, the usage of renewable energy sources is growing in popularity as a means of supplying energy needs. One of the renewable energy sources that is now being heavily exploited in Indonesia is the potential of water that may be used as a source of electrical energy by establishing a hydroelectric power plant (PLTA). One of the turbines that is frequently used in hydropower plants as a part that may transform water's kinetic energy into mechanical energy is the Pelton turbine. There is not a lot of literature on the design of Pelton turbine buckets. In order to determine the most ideal bucket dimensions that can be used with Pelton turbines, this study presents the conceptual and experimental components of the design and analysis of Pelton turbines based on bucket variations. AutoCAD was used to model the bucket and Pelton turbine, and ANSYS Fluent was used to perform the simulation so that results could be analyzed later. By comparing the simulated data of the blade variants 1 and 2, the ideal blade dimension variation is identified by the blade simulation of variant 1. The blade variation 2 with average torque of 5.859 Nm, average angular velocity of 40.822 rad/s, and average power of 242,970 watts is the most ideal blade. With an average torque of 4,735 Nm, an average corner speed of 40,404 rad/s, and an average power of 196,794 W, the blade 3 model has lower values

Abstract

Durian fruit is one of the most popular fruits in Indonesia. Half of the durian fruit is the peel, which produces a lot of waste. The durian peel is not useful and also has no economic value. Durian peel contains fibers that have the potential to be utilized. The utilization of durian peel fiber as a composite natural fiber is an effort to reduce waste from the peels. Improvement of the properties of durian peel fibers can be applied by alkali treatment of the fibers. The purpose of this study is to obtain the cellulose content, tensile strength and impact toughness of durian peel fiber reinforced polymer composites by varying the alkali treatment of the fibers. The volume fraction of fiber and matrix composite was used 50:50. This study varied 0% alkali, fiber alkali as follows: 5% NaOH, 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2, 5% KOH. The results showed the highest cellulose content of 59.48% in the 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 treatment. It was found that the optimum tensile strength was 8.58 MPa in the 5% NaOH + 3% H2O2 fiber treatment. The highest impact toughness of 2.8 kJ/m2 was obtained in 0% alkali treatment of fiber composite.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve productivity, the efficiency and quality the spice production process at Bumbu Masak Buya, a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) in Dumai, Indonesia. The primary focus is on upgrading outdated production machinery, specifically roasters, grinders, dryers, and sieves. By modifying or redesigning these machines, the study seeks to improve their performance, durability, and safety. A combined qualitative and quantitative research methodology was employed. The initial step involves a comprehensive assessment of the current production process to identify areas for improvement. Subsequently, the design and implementation of machine modifications were undertaken. It involves a detailed assessment of the current production process, followed by the design and implementation of machine modifications. The impact of these modifications was evaluated to measure their effectiveness in enhancing productivity and product quality. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for other SMEs in the spice processing industry. By adopting similar strategies of machine modification, these SMEs can improve their operational efficiency, reduce production costs, and enhance the quality of their products.

Abstract

Urban air monitoring and pollution mitigation systems are important efforts to maintain air quality in increasingly dense urban environments. This project aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system that is capable of monitoring air quality and mitigating pollution automatically. This system used a Sharp GP2Y1010AU0F dust sensor to detect dust particles, a DHT22 sensor to measure temperature and humidity, and an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to detect water levels in case of flooding. Additionally, it used the SG90 servo to automatically open and close the water valve, and 5V mini water pump to spray water from the underground tank, thereby reducing air pollution levels. The implementation of this system was carried out using plastic containers separated by plywood as a water storage medium and sensor installation. Data from sensors was sent to Blynk's IoT Platform for real-time monitoring. Apart from that, this system was also integrated with Telegram to provide notifications to residents if pollution levels worsen. Hence, they can immediately take preventative action by staying at home. Test results showed that the system was able to detect changes in air quality and water levels with precises accuracy. Apart from that, this system can also carry out pollution mitigation measures automatically by spraying water when pollution levels exceed a predetermined threshold. This project is expected to contribute to improving air quality in cities and can be widely implemented in various cities with high levels of pollution.

Abstract

This study examines how farmers can transition from traditional practices to a more data-centric approach, using IoT not just for operational efficiency but also as a strategic tool for creating new revenue streams. This research introduces the concept of smart goat farming ecosystems, where IoT technology, data analytics, and business model innovation converge to create a comprehensive and sustainable farm management approach. The qualitative research design will be used to understand the complex and context-dependent nature of IoT adoption in goat farming. This research has demonstrated that the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in goat farming has the potential to significantly improve operational efficiency, animal welfare, and productivity. The use of IoT devices for real-time health monitoring, automated feeding systems, and environmental control can assist farmers in optimizing resources, reducing waste, and ensuring better care for livestock. Future study can explore how IoT can be combined with artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data analytics to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency in livestock farming.

Abstract

Corrosion is natural process that occurred in metal structure. In the planning of construction, metal is the important part of construction. Yet it is often, corrosion phenomenon occurred due to interface with corrosive environment. In the design process, it is need to consider the metal behavior on how much the corrosion rate occurred for a certain time in order to confirm the metal structure application. This equipment is built to support the knowledge of corrosion rate for metal. The experiment shows the result of three specimens regarding the corrosion rates. The corrosive condition is created to trigger the corrosion process where the comparison corrosion rate between sub-soil water and peat water contribute to significance impact of corrosion process.

Abstract

This study seeks to identify best practices, uncover implementation gaps, and provide recommendations to improve the quality and comparability of financial reporting in the sector. This study employs a qualitative case study approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the implementation of PSAK 64 in Indonesian oil and gas companies operating under the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) model. The sample is selected using purposive sampling, focusing on companies that: Operate in the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia, are governed by the PSC model, and have published financial reports in accordance with PSAK 64. The study findings reveal that while companies generally comply with the basic requirements of PSAK 64, there is considerable variation in the interpretation and application of specific provisions, particularly those related to the recognition, measurement, and disclosure of exploration and evaluation (E&E) assets. This study contributes to the accounting literature by highlighting how a single standard (PSAK 64) can be applied differently based on the contractual and regulatory environment.

Abstract

This initiative is part of a broader commitment to support rural agricultural development through technological innovation and knowledge transfer. Through workshops, demonstrations, and direct community involvement, this program will not only provide access to the feed chopper but also equip farmers with the skills and understanding needed to adopt and sustain its use. This community service project was designed using a participatory and problem-solving approach, integrating technical innovation with local knowledge to empower goat farmers. This community service initiative successfully introduced a practical and energy-efficient goat feed chopping machine to a rural farming community. The machine effectively addressed key challenges in manual feed preparation, including time consumption, labor intensity, and inconsistency in feed size. This initiative demonstrates that small-scale engineering solutions, when aligned with local needs and capacities, can significantly advance rural development and agricultural sustainability.
