Abstract

This study explores the impact of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Employee Performance and Sustainability in the hospitality industry. By integrating Big Data and AI, hospitality businesses can optimize operations, enhance employee efficiency, and promote sustainable practices. The research uses SmartPLS to analyze the relationships between these variables, with a focus on how Big Data and AI influence Employee Performance, which in turn contributes to Sustainability efforts. The results show that both Big Data and AI have significant positive effects on Employee Performance, with Big Data demonstrating a stronger impact. Moreover, Employee Performance mediates the relationship between Big Data, AI, and Sustainability, indicating that improvements in employee performance lead to better sustainability outcomes, such as resource optimization and waste reduction. The study’s findings align with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), highlighting the potential of technology to drive both economic and environmental sustainability in the hospitality sector. This research contributes to understanding how the application of Big Data and AI can help hospitality businesses achieve long-term success through improved operational efficiency and sustainable practices

Abstract

Given global environmental challenges, developing sustainable behavior among pre-service teachers is crucial, as they will be responsible to educate future generations who must contribute to solving environmental problems. Offline pro-environmental identity refers as the individual's environmental commitment in real-life setting. Previous studies have primarily focused on online identity and behavioral intentions, while real-life behavioral context have not been fully examined. The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of the online pro-environmental identity, the perceived behavioral control, and the moral identity on the behavioral intention and the offline pro-environmental behavior. The study employed a quantitative research design and adopted Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) to analyze the data. The population was all Economics Education students of Universitas Negeri Semarang. A proportionate simple random sampling method was employed to choose 277 respondents. Questionnaire-based data were obtained and analyzed using CB-SEM. The findings reveal that intention was a strong and positive predictor of offline pro-environmental behavior (H1). Moral identity significantly influences intention (H2) and affects offline behavior both directly (H3) and indirectly through intention (H8). Online pro-environmental identity also has a significant influence on both intention (H4) and offline behavior (H5), with both effects mediated by intention (H9). However, perceived behavioral control has no impact on either intention (H6) or discharge behavior offline (H7), even indirectly through intention (H10). R value for intention is a moderate 0.539 whereas offline pro-environmental behaviour shows a strong R value at 0.963. These results emphasize the importance of intention for transforming values and identity to actual ecological behaviour. Enhancing moral and online pro-environmental identity can be beneficial to the development of sustainable behavior in offline context which calls for joint efforts in environmental education and behavioral interventions.

Abstract

This study examines the forms of resistance by female characters against patriarchal culture in the television series Sh?gun (2024). The study highlights how feudal Japanese society shaped gender roles, and how Lady Mariko, as the main female protagonist, negotiated her agency within a strong patriarchal system. Using Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism theory and Sylvia Walby's concept of patriarchy, this research analyzes intellectualism, self-sacrifice, and strategic compliance as means of subverting social norms. Through qualitative methods involving in-depth understanding and character analysis, this study identifies that Mariko's form of resistance manifests through measured actions against social expectations, codes of honor, and gender-based power hierarchies. The findings show that instead of engaging in open rebellion, Mariko demonstrates agency through symbolic intelligence and self-sacrifice as a challenge to male dominance. This research also highlights how the series reconstructs historical narratives by placing women's inner strength and intelligence at the center of political and cultural stories. This study contributes to feminist criticism of popular media by showing that contemporary historical dramas can present representations of women's resistance within patriarchal systems and reimagine women's positions as active agents in male-dominated history. This research reinforces the ongoing discourse on gender, power, and representation in popular culture, emphasizing that agency within oppressive systems often emerges through subtle, complex, and contextually bound forms of resistance.

Abstract

This article raises the issue of disability, which is part of human diversity, although it often receives discriminatory treatment in society. This study aims to first identify the representation of people with disabilities found in Wonder; second, explain how society's response to people with disabilities is depicted in Wonder; and third, explain the implications of representation and response for the redefinition of people with disabilities in the modern era in Wonder. The qualitative method used in this study focuses on examining data in the form of dialogue and narration in Wonder to identify the characters' various responses to individuals with disabilities. The data is then analyzed by referring to Rohwerder's theory of disability models, which includes five models: charity, medical, social, human rights, and interactional, and is also linked to Stuart Hall's Representation Theory (1997). The results showed various types of community responses, including empathy, acceptance, rejection, and discrimination. The responses shown by the characters in Wonder represent the complex social dynamics in addressing the existence of people with disabilities in society. In short, Wonder is not just a novel that tells the struggle of a child with a disability, but also a mirror of cultural and social values that often stigmatize those who are considered different. This study shows that Wonder is not just an ordinary literary work; through the novel, it can open readers’ perspectives to see that people with disabilities are actually equal. Therefore, Wonder exists not only as a personal story but also as an educative platform that triggers non-disabled awareness towards disabilities.
