Abstract

Diastasis rectus abdominis (DRA) is a common postpartum condition characterized by a widening of the inter-recti distance (IRD), which may lead to postural changes, lower back pain, and decreased quality of life. Postpartum exercise is a nonpharmacological intervention designed to strengthen abdominal muscles, improve core stability, and support the reduction of IRD. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of postpartum exercises in reducing inter-recti distance and improving abdominal muscle recovery among postpartum women. A quasi-experimental pretestposttest control group design was conducted involving 90 postpartum women who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants were assigned to treatment and control groups, with the intervention group receiving validated postpartum exercise videos performed routinely for six weeks. IRD was measured using a standardized palpation technique with proven validity and reliability. Additional instruments included observation sheets, muscle strength assessments, pain scales, and a postpartum quality-of-life questionnaire using the MPQOL-I (Maternal Postpartum Quality of Life Instrument). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. A significant reduction in IRD was observed in the treatment group compared with the control group (p = 0.001). The treatment group demonstrated greater improvement in abdominal muscle approximation, indicating a positive effect of postpartum exercises on abdominal wall recovery. Postpartum exercise is effective in reducing inter-recti distance and promoting abdominal muscle recovery in postpartum women. It is recommended as a simple, safe, and evidence-based intervention for postpartum care.

Abstract

Introduction : Health education about pregnancy care is important to increase the knowledge of pregnant women so that it will encourage positive attitudes and behavior towards the health of the mother and fetus. Audiovisual media and leaflets are often used to convey health information. Objective : This research aims to determine the differences in the effectiveness of the two media in increasing knowledge, attitudes and practices of pregnancy services for pregnant women at the Tambakromo Community Health Center. Method : This research uses an experimental design with a two group pretest posttest design. The research sample was 76 pregnant women at the Tambakromo Community Health Center who were divided into two groups randomly. The first group was given health education using audiovisual media, and the second group was given leaflet media. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test and Mann Whitney with p0.05. Result : Respondents' knowledge, attitudes and pregnancy care practices increased after being given health education. Audiovisual media is more effective than leaflet media in increasing knowledge (p-value = 0.004), practice (p-value = 0.007), and attitudes (p-value = 0.010) of pregnant women regarding pregnancy care. Conclusion : Increased knowledge, attitudes and practices show that both media are effective in increasing pregnant women's awareness about the importance of pregnancy checks. However, audiovisual media has proven to be more effective because it is multisensory, making it more interesting and easier to understand. Health education using audiovisual media is more effective than leaflet media in increasing knowledge, attitudes and practices of pregnancy care among pregnant women at the Tambakromo Community Health Center.

Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is a critical phase involving physical recovery, emotional adaptation, and social transition, which may affect maternal wellbeing. Limited access to continuous postnatal care can increase the risk of depression, inadequate self-care, and delayed recovery. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions have emerged as a potential solution to support continuity of care through remote monitoring, digital education, and ongoing support. Objective: This review aimed to synthesize evidence on the role of mobile health interventions in improving maternal health outcomes during the postpartum period. Methods: An umbrella review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 framework. Relevant studies published between 2019 and 2025 were identified from PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, and ScienceDirect. Eligibility was determined using the PICO framework, focusing on postpartum women receiving mHealth interventions compared to standard care. Five review-level studies were included and analyzed using descriptive and thematic synthesis. Results: mHealth interventions showed potential benefits in improving maternal self-efficacy, self-care engagement, physical activity, and overall wellbeing. They were also associated with reduced postpartum depression symptoms and improved adherence to follow-up care. Conclusion: Mobile health interventions may contribute positively to both psychological and physical health outcomes in postpartum women. However, the available evidence remains limited an indirect. Further high-quality primary studies are needed to establish effectiveness and inform clinical implementation.
