Abstract

The problem studied in this research is related to the less than optimal achievement of students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the 5E Learning cycle learning model on the mathematical problem solving abilities of class VIII Even Semester students at SMP Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research uses an experimental method with the population in this research, namely all class VIII students of SMP Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung consisting of 8 classes. Meanwhile, two classes were taken as samples, namely class VIII B as the experimental class which applied the 5E Learning cycle learning model, and class VIII A as the control class which applied the conventional learning model. Samples were taken using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. To determine students' mathematical problem solving abilities, the author carried out a test in the form of an essay with five questions whose validity and reliability had first been tested. Hypothesis testing in this study used the t-hit formula and obtained a value of t = 3,10. From the t distribution table at the 5% significance level, it is known that t = 1,67, so , which means that the average mathematical problem solving ability of students who use the 5E Learning cycle learning model is higher than the average mathematical problem solving ability of students who use the model. conventional learning.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the use of technology-based learning media, including mobile applications, learning videos, and software such as GeoGebra and Matlab, in improving the understanding of mathematical concepts of high school students. Through a quantitative approach, with an experimental design, this study involved 90 students from SMA 8 Bandar Lampung who were divided into 3 groups. Data analysis was carried out using t-test to compare the level of understanding of students before and after the use of learning media. The results showed that there was a significant improvement in students' understanding of mathematical concepts after the use of technology-based learning media (p < 0.05). GeoGebra was shown to provide the best results with an increase in understanding by 48.5%, followed by mobile applications (40.2%) and learning videos (30.1%). These findings indicate that the use of technology-based learning media is effective in improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to develop and assess the feasibility of an audio-based Student Textbook and Lecture Guide for the Business and Office English course in the Office Administration Education Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas negeri Surabaya that address the lack of updated course-aligned teaching materials. Method:  This study used Research and Development approach with ADDIE instructional design model, but the process was limited to the implementation stage after wider-scale trials and revisions.  The product was validated by a material expert and a media expert, followed by student try-outs using questionnaires (small group of 10 students and large group of 40 students from the 2023 cohort). Results: Needs analysis showed the program had no updated textbook aligned with the semester lesson plan; learning relied mainly on lecturer-made PowerPoints and conventional instruction considered less effective for achieving course outcomes.  Expert validation indicated the material aspect was feasible with an average score 67 and the media aspect was highly feasible with average score 86.  Student responses in the large-group trial showed an overall average score of 94 considered as highly feasible, supporting its use as a learning resource. Novelty: This study provides practical evidence that integrating audio-based exercises into a course-specific textbook and lecture guide based on semester lesson plan and Merdeka curriculum highly feasible model for supporting independent practice in Business and Office English for non-English department.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines students’ ability to comprehend statistical concepts explained by ChatGPT and explores both students’ and lecturers’ perceptions regarding the clarity and instructional appropriateness of ChatGPT’s explanations within the framework of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS), particularly in learning contexts that require high cognitive engagement. Method: A qualitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed. Participants were divided into an experimental group that utilized ChatGPT during learning activities and a control group that received conventional lecturer-led instruction. Data were gathered through quizzes, classroom observations, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving students and lecturers. The collected data were analyzed descriptively using the Miles and Huberman model to identify recurring themes related to conceptual understanding, learning behavior, and instructional effectiveness. Findings: The results reveal that most students experienced substantial difficulty in understanding statistical explanations generated by ChatGPT. Students frequently relied on copying answers without critically engaging with the reasoning process. Major obstacles included fragmented explanations, unfamiliar symbolic representations, and the use of technical language that exceeded students’ conceptual readiness, leading to weak conceptual understanding. Conversely, students who possessed a solid foundation in statistical concepts demonstrated better learning outcomes, even when using ChatGPT. Lecturers consistently emphasized that ChatGPT cannot substitute the pedagogical role of lecturers but may provide limited support when its use is guided and supervised. Significance: This study underscores that ChatGPT should be positioned as a supplementary instructional tool rather than a primary source of explanation in statistics education. Effective integration requires structured guidance, conceptual reinforcement, and the cultivation of students’ critical thinking skills to avoid misconceptions. These findings contribute to the discourse on responsible human AI collaboration in higher education and offer practical implications for implementing generative AI within ITS based learning environments.
