Abstract

Social contribution community service activities are the culmination of a series of Nusantara Module, developed by the community service team, consisting of lecturers of S1 PG PAUD Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW) in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. One of the MBKM programs organized by S1 PG PAUD UKSW in the even semester of 2023/2024 is Pertukaran Mahasiswa Merdeka (PMM). PMM is a student exchange program attended by 10 exchange students from Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya who attended lectures at UKSW. The Nusantara Module develops activities to strengthen diversity which are arranged in a series of diversity activities, inspiration activities, reflection activities to social contributions to the community entitled the Nusantara Module Talk Show Series and Social Contributions to the Community. Talk Show Nusantara Module has 3 series, namely: Series 1: “Culture as Identity”; Series 2: “Integrity and Persistence of the Educator” and Series 3: “Challenges and Opportunities of Religious Diversity”. The series ended with social contribution activities to the community, namely Training on Developmental Detection and Socialization of Home Inventory to Parents. Social contribution activities are carried out to 6 (six) families from various religious, ethnic, racial and tribal backgrounds that embody the objectives of the archipelago module. The entire series of activities had a good impact on each participant involved, both exchange students and the community with the level of usefulness shown by the Likert Scale with the results of Good at a percentage of 22.4% and Very Good at a percentage of 77.6%.

Abstract

Early childhood language development is critical, forming the basis for cognitive, social, and emotional growth. Children's brains are particularly receptive to linguistic input during these formative years, which makes them an optimal period for developing language skills, particularly in English. The trend of integrating English language learning in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) has increased rapidly in Indonesia. The main objective of the iSALTY research is to develop and evaluate an innovative learning framework that harmoniously integrates three English language learning methods to increase the effectiveness of the learning process. Using a literature study approach, this research provides a comprehensive review of existing research to advance knowledge in early childhood English teaching. This research used purposive sampling to select 45 references consisting of 12 titles about Audio Lingual Method (ALM), 16 titles about Total Physical Response (TPR), and 17 titles about Storytelling. A structured six-step procedure was followed to ensure a thorough and systematic literature review. This stae of the arts research reveals that integrating ALM, TPR, and Storytelling has the opportunity to form a dynamic and interesting way of teaching and learning. This holistic approach utilizes repetition, contextualization, and physical reinforcement, which effectively enhances children's linguistic abilities in strengthening English language skills. The implications of iSALTY research have the potential to have a significant impact in the context of English language learning at various levels of education.

Abstract

Dalam praktiknya, penggunaan Bahasa Inggris dalam pembelajaran di kelas TK dan SD masih belum optimal, khususnya di kota yang intensitas penggunaan bahasa Inggris untuk keseharian sudah cukup tinggi. Hal ini memunculkan suatu kebutuhan implementasi bahasa Inggris di TK dan SD minimal pada tataran bilingual (dwi bahasa). Hanya saja, permasalahan utama yang guru TK dan SD adalah tidak semua guru memiliki keterampilan yang memadai untuk mengajar dengan Bahasa Inggris. Pentingnya pengayaan metode pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris menjadi hal yang tidak dapat diabaikan dalam pelatihan guru. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat merupakan sebuah kegiatan yang penting dalam menjawab kebutuhan dan mencoba berkontribusi untuk penanganan kendala yang ada. Kegiatan ini terdiri dari dua komponen pelatihan antara lain pelatihan intensif peningkatan keterampilan penggunaan bahasa inggris dalam pembelajaran dan pengembangan sumber daya pembelajaran inovatif bahasa inggris dalam pembelajaran. Sejumlah 31 peserta yang berasal dari TK dan SD Kanisius Cabang Semarang mengikuti pelatihan dengan konsep blended-learning. Kegiatan ini pada akhhirnya menunjukkan adanya keberhasilan dalam mengidentifikasi tingkat kebutuhan dan preferensi pelatihan peserta serta merespons kebutuhan peningkatan keterampilan bahasa Inggris tersbeut sehingga diperoleh adanya peningkatan pemahaman (wawasan) dan pelaksanaan simulasi/praktik pengajaran bilingual di TK dan SD (keterampilan).

Abstract

Mengingat pentingnya pengembangan keterampilan berbahasa pada anak, sekolah-sekolah mengembangkan pembelajaran literasi bahasa anak dengan berbagai bentuk pembelajaran. tidak semua sekolah secara konsisten mengembangkan pembelajaran bahasa dalam rangka penguatan literasi anak secara inovatif dan kreatif. Ada dugaan, kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai beragam model pembelajaran inovatif menjadi alasan kurang berkembangnya cara mendampingi anak belajar bahasa. Inilah yang juga dirasakan oleh sekolah sebagai subjek pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berjudul “Service Learning: Implementasi Bahasa dan Sastra Kreatif bagi Anak – Anak PAUD dan SD di Kota Salatiga”. Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat ini melibatkan mahasiswa sebagai agen pelaksana utama dalam kerangka Service Learning yang merupakan suatu pendekatan pembelajaran yang berinteraksi dengan masyarakat sebagai tujuan dalam mengaplikasikan konsep pembelajaran tertentu dan di waktu yang bersamaan pelajar dapat memperoleh pengetahuan. Luaran dari kegiatan ini antara lain terlaksananya kegiatan Service Learning yang merupakan pengembangan pembelajaran yang terintegrasi dengan pengabdian masyarakat dan dinilai memberikan berbagai dampak positif bagi pihak sekolah mitra kegiatan dan mahasiswa.

Abstract

The use of technology is a common thing in the 21st century learning era. Educational practitioners also follow the rapid development of technology. Especially in learning English which is considered difficult to learn and master, there is one component that has a psychological effect that has the potential to suppress the optimality of student achievement. This is an assessment process carried out on the foreign language. Referring to the view that English is an important language, an idea emerged that assessment in English could be developed to be more attractive by integrating mobile technology. Therefore, this study aims to determine non-English department students' views toward mobile-based assessment in English courses. This research is descriptive qualitative research with categorization as the analysis process. By collecting, reducing and describing data, this study aims to reveal a general view of the implementation of mobile-based assessment in higher education. In general, students feel various improvements in terms of the learning process including excitement in reading and writing assessment. The use of Schoology as the mobile technology supporting learning and assessment seems to be useful as the result of this research

Abstract

Dinamika pendidikan di Indonesia berjalan begitu cepat. Perubahan kurikulum yang didasarkan pada kebijakan politik membuat banyak pihak sulit untuk beradaptasi. Salah satunya yakni pola belajar di rumah dengan kurikulum Merdeka. Orang tua terbukti mengalami kesulitan melakukan pembagian waktu bekerja dan pendampingan anak. Pemahaman kurikulum yang sering berganti membuat orang tua bingung tentang definisi ideal seorang anak yang telah mereka sekolahkan. tim Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat FKIP UKSW merancangkan suatu bentuk pembekalan dengan metode On the Job Training bertajuk Parents Empowerment terkait kurikulum, literasi, sains dan pengelolaan pembelajaran di rumah. Peserta kegiatan yakni 17 orang tua SD Kristen 1 Salatiga. Penguatan ini berjalan baik dan memberikan manfaat penambahan wawasan, tips praktek berkomunikasi dan pengelolaan belajar anak di rumah.

Abstract

The increase in digital content that is accessed by all age levels, including ages 4-6 who are in Early Childhood Education, has a good impact on access to positive content for self-development but also has the potential to have negative impacts such as addiction, lack of social interaction, bad influences on physical to weakening language development. Sometimes, the lack of exposure to the use of English contributes to the less-than-optimal mastery of English in children. There is an idea that aims to integrate three components of learning, namely digital technology, storytelling, and the use of bilingualism. Bilingual digital storytelling is an alternative solution to accommodate the development needs of children in terms of receptive language skills, listening and productive language skills, speaking, with the use of two languages as a bridge for children to get used to using English in a tiered manner. Therefore, this study uses the Classroom Action Research type with respondents, namely students aged 4-6 years. Data collection uses observation techniques that refer to observation guide instruments and documentation as additional data to enrich data acquisition. The analysis is carried out descriptively by following several stages of the cycle and comparisons between the entire cycle that runs. The result shows that bilingual digital storytelling demonstrated encouraging progress in English vocabulary acquisition and usage among early learners. However, there was a noticeable gap in developing conversational skills, as most attempts at conversation remained limited to fragmented expressions rather than complete sentences.

Abstract

Dalam era globalisasi, kemampuan berbahasa dua bahasa (bilingual) menjadi kebutuhan penting dalam dunia pendidikan dan pekerjaan. Namun, penerapan pembelajaran bilingual di tingkat PAUD masih menghadapi berbagai tantangan, seperti keterbatasan sumber daya, kesiapan tenaga pendidik, serta metode pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakteristik anak usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi strategi pembelajaran bilingual yang diterapkan oleh guru di KB/TK Bethany School Salatiga. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode pengumpulan data berupa wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi guru dalam mengajarkan bilingual dilakukan melalui pendekatan yang fleksibel dan kontekstual, serta disesuaikan dengan tahapan perkembangan anak. Bahasa kedua (L2) digunakan secara dominan dalam kegiatan rutin, dengan switching ke bahasa pertama (L1) secara alami saat anak mengalami kesulitan. Guru juga memanfaatkan media interaktif seperti lagu, cerita, permainan, komunikasi aktif, visualisasi, dan pengulangan untuk memperkuat pemahaman anak terhadap bahasa kedua. Strategi ini membantu menciptakan suasana belajar yang menyenangkan sekaligus efektif dalam mendukung perkembangan keterampilan berbahasa anak.

Abstract

Perkembangan bahasa sangat penting pada anak usia dini namun, banyak lembaga pendidikan anak usia dini masih kesulitan dengan keterbatasan media, metode konvensional, dan kurangnya pendekatan yang bervariasi. Penelitian ini berupaya mengembangkan media pembelajaran inovatif yakni Language Stimulation Busy Book. Buku ini mengintegrasikan strategi multisensori dengan metode iSALTY (bercerita, audiolingual, dan total physical response) untuk menstimulasi keterampilan bahasa anak. Penelitian dan pengembangan dengan model ADDIE ini berhenti pada tahap pengembangan dengan luaran prototipe tervalidasi. Subjek penelitian meliputi guru dan anak usia 4–6 tahun di TK Kanisius Cungkup, Salatiga. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara guru, observasi kelas, dan validasi ahli. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan stagnasi dalam pembelajaran bahasa, ketergantungan pada metode konvensional, dan minimnya penggunaan media. Language Stimulation Busy Book yang dikembangkan menawarkan aktivitas multisensori yang kontekstual, menarik, dan berpeluang untuk pembelajaran bahasa dan pengenalan bahasa Inggris awal yang mengakomodasi pembelajaran yang bermakna, menyenangkan dan berkesadaran.
