Abstract

The purpose of this study relates to the identification of Islamic relations and national culture from Abdurrahman Wahid, a national figure who has extraordinary education and experience in the plurality of the Indonesian nation, to then analyze democracy as an important way of religion along with Indonesia's plural culture in the perspective of Maqashid Syariah. A qualitative descriptive character study relies on a basic literature review of Abdurrahman Wahid's various works, including relevant secondary sources. Everything is analyzed for its content so that it can be concluded that Islamization is a model that is not needed in the relations of Islam and national culture in Indonesia. Appreciation for the diversity of the nation is a safe gate so that the religion of Islam becomes a staple color in the nation's culture. This would not have been possible unless they put forward a just democratic life in their society. Options that do not deviate from maqashid Sharia

Abstract

Learning and teaching a foreign language is challenging, but research has developed effective methods to teach it in a short time with reasonable effort. The difficulty of acquiring a language depends on the learner's age and environment. Children need more time than adults, and learners in a language’s native environment require less time than those in unfamiliar environments. This study investigates how the mother tongue influences Arabic language acquisition among new students at Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School in Jakarta. This research aims to analyze the factors that lead to the influence of the mother tongue on acquiring the Arabic language. The researcher used a qualitative approach for this study, and the data collection method for this research is divided into three sections: observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings identify three main factors: (a) internal factors (psychological), such as stress and motivation, which affect language acquisition, with each student's motivation differing due to the language's novelty; (b) external factors (linguistic environment), where the environment plays a key role in motivating students, including interactions with teachers, senior students, and staff; and (c) the curriculum, which must align with the needs of beginner students learning Arabic.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has fundamentally reshaped the educational landscape, compelling institutions, including pesantren, to adopt technology-enhanced pedagogical approaches. This study aims to examine the role of digital leadership in optimizing the effectiveness of technology-based learning within pesantren and to develop a comprehensive framework that integrates digital leadership dimensions with instructional innovation in the Indonesian Islamic educational context. Employing a systematic literature review methodology, this study analyzed 52 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025, retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, and ERIC databases. The selection process followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, incorporating keyword-based searches, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and thematic content analysis to synthesize findings across multiple disciplinary perspectives. The findings reveal that digital leadership, encompassing five core dimensions of visionary leadership, digital-age learning culture, excellence in professional practice, systemic improvement, and digital citizenship, exerts a significant positive influence on teacher performance and, indirectly, on the development of students’ twenty-first-century competencies. The study further identifies that professional learning communities serve as a critical mediating variable between digital leadership and sustainable technology integration. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative synthesis of the digital leadership-learning effectiveness nexus within the specific context of Indonesian pesantren, highlighting the indirect pathway through which digital leadership enhances student outcomes via teacher empowerment and digital facilitation roles.

Abstract

In the era of educational disruption, pesantren are required to transform without losing their traditional (salaf) identity. The role of the Kiai as a central leader is a determinant factor in the success of such change management. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Kiai's transformational leadership in pesantren management, specifically in the aspects of institutional vision development and human resource empowerment. Methods: This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the Kiai, foundation board members, and teachers, as well as through participatory observation and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, including data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was tested through source and technique triangulation. Findings: The research findings indicate that the Kiai's transformational leadership is operationalized through four main dimensions: (1) Idealized Influence through moral excellence and spiritual charisma; (2) Inspirational Motivation through the internalization of values of sincerity and independence; (3) Intellectual Stimulation by encouraging managerial ijtihad in the curriculum; and (4) Individualized Consideration through a humanistic paternalistic approach. The Kiai successfully integrates pesantren values with modern management principles (POAC) to enhance institutional competitiveness. Conclusion/Implications: This study concludes that the transformational leadership model in pesantren is unique, characterized by a blend of theological authority and managerial professionalism. The implications of this research strengthen transformational leadership theory within the context of non-formal Islamic educational organizations.

Abstract

The transition toward Society 5.0 has obliged Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia to reconsider how Arabic is planned, delivered, and evaluated. Although digital tools grow abundant every year, discussions about quality tend to stop at whether the technology functions, not whether it truly upholds the spiritual and pedagogical mission of Arabic as the language of the Qur'an. This article addresses that concern through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Forty-two peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025 were selected from Scopus, DOAJ, and SINTA 1–2 indexed journals. Thematic synthesis yielded three interrelated findings: first, effective quality management rests on leadership that is digitally literate yet anchored in adab; second, technology integration succeeds when teachers are treated as co-designers rather than end-users; third, Islamic values work only when embedded in the structural decisions of the institution, not when treated as decorative additions. A conceptual framework that bridges total quality management, human-centered technology integration, and the integration of Islamic values into the curriculum is presented. The review contributes to the discourse on digital transformation in Islamic education and outlines priorities for empirical research in madrasah and pesantren settings.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of principals’ transformational leadership in improving teacher discipline in an Islamic elementary school and identifies its dominant contributing factors. A qualitative case study approach was applied at SD Islam Darunnajah Jakarta. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal and five teachers. The findings indicate that transformational leadership enhances teacher discipline through four dimensions: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. The most influential factors are the principal’s role modeling, a consistent reward and sanction system, professional development support, and open communication. This study extends the application of transformational leadership theory within Islamic educational settings by integrating Islamic values into leadership practices
