Abstract

Processing and application of tarum leaves into indigo powder for woven threads dyeing has been carried out in the Weaver Women's Group of Amol Village, North Central Timor District. The less knowledge in producing indigo-colored woven fabrics and unavailable source of Indigo leaves during the dry season are the main reasons to conduct this program. This program was carried out in 4 main stages, namely socialization, demonstration of Indigo leaves processing into indigo powder, application in yarn dyeing and evaluation. This activity was able to increase the knowledge and skills of the Weaver group in processing Indigo leaves which are abundant in the rainy season into indigo powder which can be stored for use in the dry season. The resulted powder has been applied in the coloring of the woven yarn to produce an indigo blue color.

Abstract

Natural dyeing of Timorese handwoven fabrics results in less intense and less color fastness of products against washing. The use of metal mordant such as alum for color fixation is not sufficiently safe for the environment. In this study, the extracted tannin of avocado seeds was applied as an alternative mordant to increase the color fastness of natural handwoven fabrics. Tannin was extracted by maceration, qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed with UV-Vis, applied in different concentration for handwoven fabric dyeing and the color fastness value was determined using the Staining Scale Standard. The results revealed that avocado seeds contain tannins with a total tannin content of 22.75 mg/kg dry weight. The FTIR Spectra shows several specific functional groups of tannin such as C-O and -OH which are effective enough to bind dyes and fabric fibers. It was concluded that the higher the tannin concentration, the higher the color fastness of the handwoven fabrics.

Abstract

Biodiesel merupakan bahan bakar alternatif yang dapat diperbaharui. Biodiesel terdiri atas senyawa metil ester asam lemak yang disintesis melalui reaksi transesterifikasi minyak nabati atau lemak hewani dengan alkohol dan katalis. Masa depan biodiesel sebagai bahan bakar terletak pada kemampuan untuk menghasilkan bahan baku terbarukan yang bukan merupakan bahan baku pangan. Feun kase merupakan salah satu biomassa yang memiliki kandungan minyak pada bijinya. Tanaman ini terkenal beracun dan tidak dapat dikonsumsi sehingga diharapkan menjadi sumber yang memungkinkan sebagai bahan baku biodiesel. Penelitian ini mengkaji ekstraksi minyak feun kase dengan perbandingan berat bungkil dan volume pelarut untuk diperoleh rendemen tertinggi dan sintesis asam lemak menjadi metil ester melalui reaksi transesterifikasi. Prosedur kerja meliputi ekstraksi minyak, diikuti dengan degumming untuk menghilangkan partikel-partikel bukan minyak seperti karbohidrat, fosfatida dan pengotor lain yang tersuspensi di dalam minyak dalam bentuk gum. Reaksi transesterifikasi minyak feun kase menggunakan metanol dan katalis NaOH 1% w/w sebagai promotor reaksi. Reaksi transesterifikasi pada kondisi suhu konstan 60 selama 90 menit dengan pengadukan menggunakan magnetic stirrer. Ekstraksi minyak feun kase diperoleh dengan rendemen tertinggi yaitu 52,99% pada perlakuan optimum maserasi bungkil feun kase dengan waktu 60 menit, volume pelarut 1000 ml dan berat sampel 1500 gr. Maserasi dapat dilakukan dengan sampel yang sama sebanyak lima kali pengulangan. Proses degumming efisien menurunkan kekentalan minyak feun kase yaitu dari 19,72 cSt menjadi 18,73 cSt dan penurunan % asam lemak bebas dari 2,47% menjadi 1,62%. Minyak feun kase telah dikonversi menjadi metil ester (biodiesel) dengan rendemen sebesar 81,48%.

Abstract

Abstrak Penghijauan merupakan kegaitan penanaman kembali pohon yang telah ditebang, maupun di lahan kosong, dengan tujuan lahan tersebut dapat dipulihkan, dapat digunakan dan ditingkatkan kesuuran tanah serta melindungi air tanah seingga tindak mudah menguap. Masyarakat Oebkin umumnya bermata pencaharian sebagai petani dan berternak yang menggantungkan hidupnya pada pengolahan lahan yang ada disekitarnya. Lahan yang diolah merupakan lahah permanen yang diperoleh dari hasil penebangan pohon untuk dijadikan lahan pertanian untuk ketersediaan pangan dan pakan. Semaki tinggi kegiata pembukaan lahan menyebabkan kegundulan hutan dan kegersangan. Terdapat banyak lahan yang hanya terisi dengan tanaman rumputan liar, sehingga pada musim kemarau dareah Oebkin terjadi kebakaran dan dimusim hujan terjadi erosi permukaan. Melakukan gerakan penghijauan dengan menanam tanaman dari jenis tanaman berkayu, tanaman perkebunan dan rumput-rumputan yang berguna bagi masyarakat Oebkin. Masalah yang berkaitan dengan penghijauan bagi Masyarakat Oebkin dapat diuraikansebagai berikut: (1) Masih belum diterapkannnya program penghijauan secara berkala di Oebkin; (2) Masih rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat untuk mencintai lingkungan terutama dalam hal penghijauan, dibuktikan dengan masih kurangnya pohon yang bisa menghijaukan Desa Oebkin (3) Masih belum adanya program penghijauan yang melibatkan akademisi dan mahasiswa secara bersama-sama untuk mencintai lingkungan. Manfaat dari pengabidian ini adalah menjadikan Oebkin sebagai cikal bakal Desa hijau yang sadar akan lingkungan yang diharapkan program ini bisa berkelanjutan melalui kesadaran menghijaukan lingkungan yang kemudian memberikan multi effect kepada lingkungan sekitar untuk turut menghijaukan lingkungan Kefamenanu secara umum. Abstract

This community service activity was implemented at the Sehati Banopo Farmers Group, Tublopo Village, South Bikomi District, North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The purpose of this service is to: (1) increase the knowledge and skills of rural communities to produce Eco Enzyme products from agricultural and household waste, and (2) provide understanding to the community regarding the use of Eco Enzyme as an organic fertilizer capable of preserving land. The implementation of the activity uses a training method that begins with initial observations and discussions related to the technical implementation of activities, coordination of the service team with village communities, and socialization and training activities for making Eco Enzyme. The next evaluation stage is carried out after the product has been fermented for three months, starting with the harvesting stage of Eco Enzyme and followed by the process of using it as organic fertilizer on agricultural land. The service activities went smoothly, which was marked by the appreciation and enthusiasm of the Tublopo Village community while carrying out the activities of making Eco Enzyme. Abstract

Pterocarpus indicus is a tropical wood type containing tannin compounds which potentially to be used as biomordants in woven fabrics dyeing. This research is the first work to determine the color cha racteristics of Timorese woven fabric after using tannin from Pterocarpus indicus bark as a biomordant. This research aims to determine the tannin content and colour properties of Timor woven fabric after using tannin as a a natural mordant. Pterocarpus indicus bark samples were prepared and extracted via hot extraction. The tannins in Pterocarpus indicus stem bark were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed using FT-IR and UV-Vis Spectrophotometer respectively, then applied as a color binder for woven threads. The color properties of woven fabrics with tannin were compared to woven fabrics treated with Al2(SO4)3 mordant at a concentration of 15%. Color fastness to washing are tested using the Staining Scale Standard. Pterocarpus indicus bark tannin is a brown powder. Qualitative and quantitative tests show that Pterocarpus indicus bark contains tannins with a total concentration of 0.0436%. FTIR spectra exhibited functional groups absorption by the aromatic C-H, O-H, C=C, C-C, C-O-C, and C-O. The use of 15% tannin and curcumin dye produces a yellow-brown woven fabric with a fairly good color fastness value to washing. Pterocarpus indicus bark contains tannin which has potential as a biomordant for natural Timorese weaving dyeing.

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai analisis fitokimia ekstrak polar kulit akar tumbuhan “At Anonse” (Anonna reticulata L.) telah dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder dan uji aktivitas antioksidan pada ekstrak polar kulit akar tumbuhan “At Anonse” (Annona reticulata L.). Tahapan penelitian ini yakni preparasi sampel, ekstraksi, skrining fitokimia dan uji aktivitas antioksidan. Ekstraksi dilakukan secara maserasi menggunakan pelarut metanol dan uji aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil). Hasil penelitian diperoleh uji skrining fitokimia menunjukkan golongan senyawa yang terkandung dalam kulit akar tumbuhan “At Anonse” adalah golongan triterpenoid, flavonoid, fenolik, alkaloid dan saponin.

Abstract

Chitosan is a non-toxic and biodegradable polymer compound. Chitosan is widely applied in various industrial fields. This research uses shrimp shell waste from the Malaka-NTT as a chitin and chitosan production source. Chitosan synthesis consists of three steps, namely deproteination, demineralization and deacetylation. Chitosan characterization includes determining the degree of deacetylation (DD), determining functional groups using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), and measuring crystallinity using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The DD results obtained were 83.7%. The FTIR spectra results of the chitosan samples in this study showed a typical peak at absorption of 1648 cm-1 indicating the vibration of the C=O group in NHCOCH3 (amide) I and absorption of 1589 cm-1 indicating the vibration of the N-H bending group (amide II). The results of the XRD diffractograms on the chitosan sample show an orthorhombic crystal structure with two typical peaks, namely at angles 2θ = 10.12° and 2θ = 19.87°. The DD results obtained in this study indicate that the chitosan produced has a fairly high amine group content, so chitosan as a biomaterial has the potential to be applied in various pharmaceutical and biomedical fields because it has environmentally friendly, biocompatible, and biodegradable properties. Therefore, based on the results of the DD calculation and the characterization of the FTIR and XRD instruments in this study, it shows that the synthesis of chitosan from the utilization of tiger shrimp shell waste from Malaka Regency-NTT has been successfully carried out.

Abstract

Permasalahan utama yang harus diselesaikan di Desa Oepuah Selatan adalah pengolahan pertanian yang lebih ramah lingkungan dan peningkatan pendapatan petani melalui pemasaran produk. Solusi dari permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh petani di Desa Oepuah Selatan dengan adanya kegiatan PKM ini, dapat menambah pengetahuan masyarakat tentang pentingnya sistem pertanian yang sehat dan ramah lingkungan, mengetahui adanya pupuk organik cari sebagai pupuk alternatif pengganti pupuk anorganik, peningkatan pendapatan masyarakat melalui pemasaran produk pupuk organik cair. Kegiatan PKM ini akan dilaksanakan pada bulan September 2022 di Kelompok Tani Combas Mandiri Desa Oepuah Selatan. Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode pendampingan kepada kelompok tani. Mekanisme pelaksanaan kegiatan ini antara lain, diskusi tim pengabdi, observasi lokasi kegiatan PKM, diskusi waktu dan teknis pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi pengenalan pupuk organik cair, pendampingan dan pelatihan pembuatan pupuk organik cair, pendampingan dan pelatihan pengemasan pupuk organik cair, pendampingan dan penjelasan cara menggunakan pupuk organik cair, pendampingan dan penjelasan cara pemasaran pupuk organik cair. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan PKM ini, yaitu adanya pengetahuan dan keterampilan tentang pembuatan pupuk organik cair, tersedianya pupuk organik  cair bagi petani, cara menggunakan dan pemasaran produk, mengurangi biaya produksi terutama dalam pembelian input produksi.

Abstract

The business’ level, lack of knowledge about the making process and use of hand sanitizers from natural ingredients caused sellers in Pasar Baru Kefamenanu do not apply the health protocols during transactions with buyers. Therefore, there needs to be educated about natural ingredients that can be used as hand sanitizers, the making process, and how to use them. Natural ingredients that are found in Kefamenanu are betel leaves. Education on making hand sanitizers from betel leaves helps sellers to be able to make their own hand sanitizers. The addition of aloe vera to betel leaves extract aims to make the liquid hand sanitizer becomes softer. While lime and perfume are to get rid of the betel leaves’ smell. The distribution of hand sanitizers that has been made can be an example of products from natural ingredients and the storage bottles provided can be used as a refill place for hand sanitizer.
