Abstract

Abstract

Black coral / Antipatharia is one of the colonial marine organisms that has an important ecological role as a habitat provider for various types of animals in the coral reef ecosystem. Currently the existence of black corals has been hunted by coastal communities and sent to various regions in Indonesia and abroad to meet market needs as medicinal ingredients, basic materials for crafts, and amulets. In relation to this, this activity and research was conducted to increase public understanding of the ecological role of black coral for marine ecosystems, provide alternative solutions for the development of environmentally friendly handicrafts as a substitute for accessories made from black coral, and support efforts to develop environmentally friendly handicraft businesses in communities around the Manokwari coastal area. Data collection for workshop activities was carried out in two types, namely: descriptive (data on collaborators and media partners, activity participant data, activity implementation agenda) and qualitative (survey results of general public knowledge related to black coral and evaluation results of workshop activities by participants).  The implementation of this workshop was successfully carried out for 2 days on October 22-23, 2021, and was attended by 15 participants consisting of youth groups and mothers. The evaluation results showed a positive response from the participants, where most participants gave fair to very good ratings in the evaluation categories: facilities and accommodation activities, content and presentation of workshop materials, and the structure of the implementation of activities.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research aims to analyze forest stand conditions that influence the microclimate in Manokwari urban forests and microclimate conditions that can provide comfort for the surrounding environment. The results of satellite imagery photos show that Manokwari city's land use is forest in the 5 year period, there has been a change in land use area, in 2017 the residential area was 1,512.34 ha to 1,714.58 Ha in 2022, there was an increase of 202.24 Ha. The temperature inside the forest area was recorded at 26.3°C, while outside the forest area it was recorded at 31.1°C. Manokwari has experienced extreme microclimate changes over the last 5 years, the temperature has increased to around 1.5°C, apart from that the humidity has also been recorded to have decreased significantly. Analysis of the comfort index shows that the forest temperature in the Amban region is lower than in other areas studied. Another important thing is that areas in the city that have stands of trees can immediately be designated as urban forests. Based on an analysis of oxygen consumption in various sectors and its population, Manokwari City requires the development of around 918.96 ha of urban forest. To maintain the continuity of the microclimate, it is necessary to immediately issue regulations by the Regional Government regarding the designation of existing areas as urban forests.

Abstract

Forests as part of the environment have a big role in maintaining ecosystem stability. One of them is as a carbon store. Vegetation in forests can prevent the release of carbon into the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis where vegetation absorbs CO2 then breaks it down and stores it in the form of biomass. This is what makes it important for forest friends to study their ability to store biomass and carbon specifically on Agroforestry land as one of the site level forest management units. The aim of this research is to develop an allometric equation model to estimate the value of carbon biomass stored in bellow ground specifically for stands on traditional agroforestry land. The method used is a destructive sampling by selecting sample trees purposively and selecting three samples. trees with different diameters at breast height (dbh) but the same age representing stands on agroforestry land in Aimas District, Sorong Regency. biomass and carbon measurements were carried out through laboratory tests. The total below ground biomass content of the 19 of Paraserianthes falcataria stands obtained was 0.369 tons/ha. The below ground carbon content of sengon stands on 2.8 hectares of agroforestry land is 0.184 tonnes C/ha.

Abstract

Healthy plants can be seen from good morphology and are not even attacked by pests. Local community knowledge of seeing symptoms and signs of plant stature will be very helpful, especially in dealing with problems related to plant growth. This study aims to determine the form of local wisdom in dealing with plant pests in residential areas around the Gunung Meja Nature Park. The method used is observation and interviews related to the identification of forms of attack, the level of pest attack on plants, and their handling by the community. The research object is focused on multipurpose tree species that produce wood and non-timber trees such as fruits that have high economic value. The results showed that the number of plant species in Anggori was 137 plants with a diversity index (H) of 2.956 which was included in the medium category. Plants in Anggori also suffered damage caused by pests with an attack frequency (FS) of 50% and attack intensity (IS) on plants of 21%. Pest control has been carried out by the community traditionally, such as 12% pruning, 8% logging, 20% fumigation, 8% stove ash and 16% soap to eradicate pest attacks.
