The second stage is discriminant validity which aims to find out whether the latent variable has adequate discriminant value and this was done to find out whether the statement items in the questionnaire were reliable and consistent in measuring the same symptoms in respondents. This research looks at the results of convergent validity analysis to consider the results of factor loading indicators on relevant factors, the results of testing the validity of all factors with a value greater than 0.50, one of which is an AVE value of 0.550, indicating that the indicators in these variables have a strong contribution in measuring the desired construct, and the reliability test of all variables is reliable because it exceeds 0.70, one of which is the facility variable which has a value of 0.858.

Abstract

The research aimed to extend the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by including health consciousness and health value as predictors of purchase intention on herbal products and supplements. The research applied quantitative hypothesis testing. Then, the convenience sampling technique was used in collecting research data. The survey was conducted on 260 herbal and supplement customers in West Sumatra. The research instrument was adapted from previous studies. Then, the research data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) techniques with the software SmartPLS 3.0. The testing of extended TPB in the research finds that health consciousness and health value have a positive and significant effect on customers’ attitudes and purchase intentions. Among the three main predictors of purchase intention in TPB (customer attitude, subjective norm, and behavioral control), only control behavior positively and significantly affects purchase intention. This extended TPB contributes to the theory of purchase intention by including health consciousness and health value as new predictors in customers’ purchase intentions, especially for herbal products and supplements. The research implications are that marketers and other stakeholders need to carry out effective marketing communications about products and events that support the development of healthy patterns and lifestyles and spend some effort to facilitate consumers' access to herbal products and supplements.

Abstract

This study analyses the changing working conditions and socio-economic impacts on female labourers at the PT Pecconina Baru tea plantation between 1988 and 2021. Employing historical methodology—including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography—the study examines the shift in women’s roles from the domestic sphere to the public domain as plantation workers. The findings reveal that, initially, female labourers worked as informal daily workers with low wages and no social security. Over time, they gained access to facilities such as transportation and children’s education. Although wages remained limited, this employment provided economic stability and the opportunity to contribute to household income. Some workers experienced upward social mobility through job promotions, their children’s educational advancement, and improvements in household assets. The study highlights that women's labour in the plantation sector represents not only exploitation but also opportunities for economic empowerment. In certain contexts, women demonstrated their capacity to adapt and improve their well-being through persistence and active participation in the available labour system. The academic contribution of this research lies in mapping the intersection of gender, labour, and social mobility within the agrarian sector. The findings challenge the singular narrative of female powerlessness in plantation work and underscore the importance of policies that promote protection, fair wages, and access to social services for female labourers. Thus, this study offers a new perspective on the dynamics of women's labour and structural transformation in rural economies.

Abstract

The Minangkabau diaspora in Malaysia reflects a deeply rooted migration tradition shaped by economic, social, and cultural dynamics. This study explores the life journey of Elvis Syefrizal, a Minangkabau migrant who founded the Pustaka Rezeki Harapan bookstore in Kuala Lumpur. Focusing on the motivations behind Minangkabau migration, strategies of adaptation, and efforts to preserve cultural identity abroad, the research adopts a biographical and qualitative approach, drawing on in-depth interviews and literature review. The findings highlight how Elvis Syefrizal actively preserves Minangkabau cultural heritage through social engagement, entrepreneurship, and the intergenerational transmission of traditions within his family and migrant community. His leadership in diaspora organizations further reinforces cultural continuity and solidarity among fellow migrants. This study contributes to the fields of diaspora and migration studies by presenting a localized, human-centered narrative of cultural preservation within voluntary migration. It underscores that migration is not merely a spatial relocation, but a dynamic, ongoing process of cultural negotiation, adaptation, and the maintenance of transnational connections.
