Abstract

This research was conducted in November 2023-February 2024 at SMAN 1 Percut Sei Tuan with the aim of finding out: (1) the feasibility of e- learning modules based on Project Based Learning (PjBL) on periodic system of elements material based on the BSNP assessment instrument consisting of content feasibility, appropriateness of presentation, appropriateness of language and appropriateness of graphics, (2) practicality of e- learning modules based on Project Based Learning (PjBL) on material on the periodic system of elements through responses from chemistry teachers and students. This research was carried out with Research and Development (Research and Development ) using the 4D development model ( define, design, develop, disseminate) which is limited to the develop stage . The initial stages carried out in this research were initial analysis, ATP analysis, and analysis of teaching materials. Then the design and creation of e- learning modules based on Project Based Learning (PjBL) were carried out on the material of the periodic system of elements. The final result of the e- module is converted into a flipbook with the help of the Flip PDF Professional application . Then the e-module was validated for its suitability by 6 validators. After carrying out the feasibility validation stage and the revision or improvement stage, a practicality test was carried out through the responses of 2 chemistry teachers and 31 students. The results of the e- module feasibility percentage obtained in the research were content feasibility of 94%, presentation feasibility of 95%, language feasibility of 96%, and graphic feasibility of 85%, where the four assessments were included in the "very feasible" criteria. ". In the practicality test, the percentage obtained by the teacher was 96% and by the students it was obtained at 90%, with the criterion "very practical". Keywords: E- Module, project based learning, periodic system of elements, feasibility, practicality.DOI: 10.23960/jppk.v13.i1.2024.07

Abstract

In stoichiometry learning process, mostly educators focus on calculations. Students are not invited to think more critically about stoichiometry application in life. This constraint makes teachers have to develop new learning models, including Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) model, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) based on chemical literacy. This study aims to develop general chemistry teaching materials on stoichiometry using IBL and STEM models based on chemical literacy that are feasible (valid) and capable of improving students' LOTS and HOTS abilities. The development model used is the ADDIE model, with research subjects of 34 students. The result shows that stoichiometry teaching materials using the IBL STEM model based on chemical literacy are valid (feasible) to be applied in learning with an average score of 4.42 for the material aspect and 4.55 for the design aspect. The developed teaching materials have been proven to significantly improve students’ LOTS and HOTS abilities.

Abstract

Thinking creatively is a crucial higher-order skill that students must acquire when they graduate from university. This necessitates lecturers designing and developing learning processes that actively engage students while fostering their creative thinking abilities. This study aims to develop and validate general chemistry teaching materials on organic compounds and reactions using the PjBL-STEM model and evaluate their effectiveness in improving students' creative thinking skills. The study employed the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model. The teaching materials were designed as comprehensive books that adhered to the PjBL-STEM framework. Effectiveness was measured by analyzing improvements in students’ creative thinking abilities through quantitative testing. The results demonstrate that the PjBL-STEM-based teaching materials are valid and feasible for implementation. Their effectiveness in enhancing students' creative thinking abilities was statistically significant (t-count = 32.488; p = 0.000), with an average improvement of 42.725 ± 8.317. The development of PjBL-STEM-based teaching materials offers a valuable tool for chemistry education, effectively promoting creative thinking skills among students. This approach provides a practical framework for lecturers to design innovative, student-centered learning strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) student worksheet (LKPD) integrated with scientific literacy on the topic of thermochemistry for Grade XI senior high school students, and to evaluate its feasibility and student responses. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), limited to the development stage. The development process began with needs analysis, material and layout design, product development, and expert validation. The instruments used included a BSNP-based feasibility assessment sheet and a student response questionnaire. Validation results from three lecturers and two chemistry teachers indicated that the developed LKPD is valid and highly feasible, with an average feasibility score of 3.62. Meanwhile, product testing conducted on Grade XI MIPA students showed very positive responses with an average score of 3.65. These findings indicate that the PBL-based LKPD integrated with scientific literacy is effective in improving students' understanding of thermochemistry concepts, motivating them, and enhancing critical thinking skills and scientific literacy in chemistry learning. This LKPD also has the potential to serve as an innovative teaching material aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum.

The population of this study were all students of class XI MIPA SMAN 14 Medan. The sampling technique was carried out random sampling, namely class XI MIPA 3 as an experimental class with 34 students. The results obtained are the average value of the experimental data class pretest and posttest is 37.50 and 79.85, which means it is higher than the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) value, namely 75. Data from the normality and homogeneity tests obtained normal distribution and homogeneous data. The results of the hypothesis test were carried out using one sample t-test at the significance level α = 0.05, earned value tcount 2.403 > ttable 1.692 with sig. (2 tailed) 0.022 < α = 0.05 so Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Students' interest in learning in the experimental class obtained an average score of 77.02 with high criteria of 47.1% and medium criteria of 52.9%.
