Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that has an impact on the quality of human resources and long-term productivity. Manado City as the capital city of North Sulawesi Province still faces challenges in reducing stunting rates. This study aims to analyze the implementation of stunting control policies in Manado City with a focus on specific interventions implemented by the Health Office and Health Centers. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of key informants, namely Health Office officials, nutrition management personnel, health cadres, and parents of stunted toddlers. The results of the study showed that communication had run smoothly, but the community's understanding of stunting was still less than ideal. Human resources and facilities were still limited. The disposition of implementers showed high commitment, but the lack of incentives was an obstacle. The bureaucratic structure of stunting control in Manado City was clear through coordination between the Health Office, Health Centers, and health cadres, with the support of SOPs that strengthened implementation in the field. In conclusion, the implementation of stunting control policies in Manado City has not been implemented properly and still requires strengthening in terms of communication, resources, and motivation of implementers.

Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia continues to increase from year to year, especially in the city of Manado. The Central Statistics Agency of Manado City shows that hypertension is the disease with the highest prevalence in Manado City with a total of 27,604 cases in 2020. Hypertension risk factors are divided into 2 major parts, namely unmodified risk factors and modified risk factors. Non-modifiable risk factors such as age over 65 years, family history, and comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus (DM) or kidney disease. Risk factors that can be changed include an unhealthy diet (excessive salt consumption, a diet high in saturated fats and trans fats, low intake of fruits and vegetables), lack of physical activity, tobacco and alcohol consumption, and being overweight or obese. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between age and smoking habits and the incidence of hypertension in the community in the city of Manado. This study is an observational research with a cross-sectional approach. The data was taken in Manado City. Data collection will be carried out in June 2024. Data collection was carried out through interviews using questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the square khi test. The results showed that the most distributed respondents were aged 50 years and over (63.3%), did not smoke (60.0%) and had hypertension (70.0%). The results of bivariate analysis obtained p values of 0.803 (age correlation with hypertension) and 0.328 (correlation between smoking habits and hypertension). This value suggests that there is no significant correlation between age and smoking habits and the incidence of hypertension. It can be concluded that age and smoking are not correlated to the incidence of hypertension in the people of Manado city.

Abstract

Background: Non-communicable diseases cause the most deaths worldwide. In 2024, Manado City had 11,677 cases of diabetes mellitus (DM) and 43,368 cases of hypertension. Adherence to treatment is an indicator of successful disease management, but national research found that drug compliance and recontrol for DM and hypertension patients remain low. The control and management of diabetes and hypertension are the main focus of Prolanis, but some studies on Prolanis have found high levels of non-compliance, so researchers examined drug compliance and recontrol. Aim: To provide an overview of a drug compliance and recontrol of Prolanis participants with DM and hypertension at the Bailang Public Health Center in Manado City. Methods: Descriptive quantitative approach and a cross-sectional design involving 41 Prolanis DM and 55 Prolanis hypertension at the Bailang Public Health Center in Manado City. The questionnaire used is the SKI 2023. Results: Prolanis DM participants found that 29 people (90.6%) demonstrated drug compliance as directed by their doctor, while 3 people (9.4%) were non-compliant. A total of 31 people (96.9%) attended recontrol regularly, while 1 person (3.1%) attended only occasionally. Prolanis participants with hypertension found that 50 people (90.9%) demonstrated regular drug compliance, while 5 people (9.1%) took their medication irregularly. A total of 51 people (92.7%) attended recontrol regularly, whereas 4 participants (7.3%) did so only occasionally. Conclusion: Prolanis participants with DM and hypertension at the Bailang Public Health Center in Manado City were categorized as compliant with drug therapy and regular in recontrol as directed by their doctor.
