Abstract

We often encounter potatoes in eating places and restaurants that have been made into ready-to-eat food because they are easy to process into various kinds of food, one of which is french fries. The aim of this research is to produce a design for a multifunctional potato cutting machine that is efficient and portable. The concept refers to the design process of designing a machine by determining the dimensions, size and constituent components displayed on the working drawings. The results of this multifunctional potato cutting machine design resulted in the design of machine components such as a potato funnel hopper with dimensions of 300 mm x 80 mm x 222 mm, a potato pusher with dimensions of 80 mm x 114 mm, and the main frame of the machine with dimensions of 421 mm x 300 mm x 380 mm. Three variations of cutting knives consisting of flat, long/stick-shaped and soft-shaped cutting knives. The knife driver used is an electric motor with a power of 125 watts, blade rotation speed of 700 rpm, and another drive transmission. Overall, the results of this design produce a design drawing for a potato cutting machine with dimensions of 421 mm x 300 mm x 544 mm, so that this machine is more efficient and portable.

Abstract

Kereta Argo Lawu New Generation adalah salah satu layanan transportasi kereta api yang dioperasikan oleh PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) untuk rute Solo Balapan - Gambir. Kenyamanan termal penumpang menjadi aspek penting dalam layanan ini, mengingat fluktuasi suhu eksternal yang signifikan. Sistem pendingin udara (AC) pada kereta harus mampu menjaga suhu yang nyaman selama perjalanan. Namun, perhitungan beban pendinginan yang akurat diperlukan untuk memastikan kapasitas sistem pendingin sesuai dengan kebutuhan termal dalam gerbong. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Cooling Load Temperature Difference (CLTD) untuk menganalisis kebutuhan beban pendinginan pada Kereta Argo Lawu New Generation. Perhitungan dilakukan dengan mempertimbangkan faktor eksternal (radiasi matahari, suhu lingkungan) serta faktor internal (jumlah penumpang, peralatan elektronik, dan pencahayaan). Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi spesifikasi material gerbong, kapasitas pendinginan AC, serta parameter lingkungan seperti suhu dan kelembapan. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa total beban pendinginan yang diperlukan adalah 37814,93 kkal/jam, sementara kapasitas AC yang tersedia sebesar 40000 kkal/jam. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa sistem pendingin yang terpasang masih mampu menjaga suhu dalam batas kenyamanan termal. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa metode CLTD dapat digunakan secara efektif dalam perhitungan beban pendinginan kereta api dan dapat dijadikan acuan dalam perancangan sistem pendingin transportasi massal lainnya.

Abstract

Motor merupakan salah satu kebutuhan sekunder masyarakat, oleh karena itu performa mesin juga harus diperhatikan, terlebih jika sedang memilih salah satu komponen dari mesin untuk dilakukan perbaikan atau penggantian komponen. Untuk mendapatkan peforma motor yang baik maka harus diimbangi dengan sistem pengapian yang baik juga, agar suplai listriknya cukup untuk melakukan kerja yang maksimal pada mesin. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi performa mesin melalui perbandingan system pengapian yang ada pada koil standar serta busi racing yang memanfaatkan bahan bakar pertamax 98. Metode eksperimen atau pengujian dengan bantuan alat dyno diterapkan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil uji perbandingan pengapian standar bawaan pabrikan dan produk racing after market pada motor Kawasaki Dtracker bore up 175cc, dengan mengganti busi dan koil yang telah dilakukan mendapatkan hasil angka bahwa grafik daya dan torsi tertinggi didapat dengan mengganti koil dan busi produk racing  after market. Grafik daya dan torsi menjadi lebih tinggi dikarenakan pembakaran pada ruang silinder saat koil mengalirkan aliran listrik dan busi memercikan bunga api menjadi lebih baik karena bunga api yang di hasilkan lebih besar daripada menggunakan koil dan busi standar bawaan pabrikan.

Abstract

Briquetting technology became one appropriate method that can be used to convert biomass waste into a renewable energy source. Sources of biomass raw materials that have promising potential are pine sawdust and coconut shell waste. Sawdust has potential for about 0.78 million m3/year and coconut shell waste around 360 thousand tons/year. The research aim was to analyze the effect of the carbonization temperature to volatile matter and fixed carbon of briquette. The research was done by variating carbonization temperature at 400oC, 500oC, and 600oC. The result showed that at carbonization temperature of 400oC, the volatile matter and fixed carbon was 42.28% and 55.74%. The volatile matter and fixed carbon are 43.19% and 54.96%, found at carbonization temperature 500oC. The highest fixed carbon 55.98% and the lowest volatile matter 42.19% was found from carbonization temperature at 600oC. Abstract

The heat exchanger is a device used to transfer heat between two process streams. In general, the flow that occurs in shell and tube heat exchangers is parallel flow or counter flow. To change the flow in the shell and tube heat exchanger into the cross flow, baffles can be added. The ideal cutting for baffle cutting is taken 20% to 35% of the inner diameter of the shell while the baffle distance is one-fifth of the inside diameter (ID) of the shell or 2 inches. Shell type "E" consists of 9 tubes with a 45° square pattern arrangement and single segmental baffle type with different orientations of baffle spacing and cuts 6, 8, 10 baffles and 25% and 30% of the shell inner diameter. CFD simulation results were obtained in the form of temperature distribution contours, pressure flow profile. The analysis shows that a properly selected baffle spacing and cut has the maximum potential to improve the heat exchanger performance up to 59.15%, as shown in the heat exchanger with 10/25% configuration. Increasing the number of baffles can increase the effectiveness-NTU by about 11% to 13%, while the same baffle spacing with different baffle cuts shows that 30% baffle cuts can reduce the pressure drop problem by about 8% to 11% compared to 25% baffle cuts.
