Abstract

Banana bunchy top virus (BBTV) mostly infects Musa spp. which causes banana bunchy top disease (BBTD), the most devastating viral disease in banana cultivation all over the world. During field survey in Sekar Bumi Tropical Farm located in Kerta Village, 15 heliconia plant samples showed green streak on lamina leaves that similar to common BBTD symptoms were collected. Further research was then conducted to identify molecular characteristic of BBTD in heliconia showing green streak. Molecular identification was conducted using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Specific primers to amplified DNA target were used in this study: mRep/F (5’-GCGTGAAACGCACAAAAGGCC-3’) and mRep/R (5’-GCATACGTTGTCAAACCTTCTCCTC-3’). The expected 240 bp fragment target of partial master replication (mRep) gene was successfully amplified from ten out of 15 samples. Sequence analysis confirmed that the symptomatic heliconia samples were infected with BBTV and falls into the same clade with BBTV from the Asian Group.

Abstract

Overweight-obesity is a condition that results from the accumulation of excess body fat and can affect cognitive function in adolescents, thus having an impact on academic achievement. The aim of this study was to see the relationship between overweight-obesity and academic achievement of student at SMA N 1 Tabanan. The research design of this study was analytic observational cross-sectional. The data were taken by consecutive sampling method through distributing questionnaires in the form of google form. The subject of this study were students of class XI of SMA N 1 Tabanan. Bivariate and multivariate tests were used to analyze the data in this study. The results of the bivariate analysis, the relationship between academic achievement with nutritional status (p = 0.018), gender (p = < 0.001), socioeconomic status (p = 0.005), screen time (p = 0.001), breakfast habits (p = 0.133), and physical activity (p = 0.516). The results of the multivariate analysis, the relationship between academic achievement with nutritional status (OR 4.343; CI 95% 1.050-17.964), socioeconomic status (OR 4.614; CI95% 1.775-11.993), breakfast habits (OR 2.605; CI95% 1.003-6.767), screen time (OR 0.245; CI95% 0.092-0.651), and gender (OR 2.567; CI95% 0.979–6.733).The conclusion is that the overweight-obesity nutritional status has a significant relationship with academic achievement that is less than the average. The habit of not frequent/never having breakfast and less socioeconomic status were also shown to have a significant relationship with academic achievement that is less than the average. Abstract

Background Over the past two decades, heart failure in children has increased in terms of symptom recognition and prevalence. The initial clinical manifestations of heart failure in children are non-specific. Therefore, diagnosis requires the support of echocardiography. The symptomatic severity of heart failure in children can be classified through a simple scoring system such as Ross score. The duration of heart disease, duration of therapy, and cardiac remodeling status may have clinical and anatomical effects on the disease. Objective To analyze for a possible correlation between modified Ross score and echocardiographic score by subgroup analysis consisting of duration of heart disease, duration of therapy, and cardiac remodeling. Methods This cross-sectional study included children aged 1 month - 18 years with heart failure who sought treatment at Prof.Dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah Hospital, Denpasar from June 2019 to February 2020. Cardiac remodeling was defined as >20% increase in left ventricle internal end diastolic dimension (LVIDd) compared to normal values, ??based on body surface area. Spearman’s correlation test was used for statistical analysis. Results A total of 30 subjects were analyzed in this study. The median modified Ross score and echocardiography score were 3 points (range 2-11) and 4 (range 2-6), respectively. The median durations of heart disease and preventive heart failure therapy were 2 years (range 7 days-15 years) and 1 year (range 7 days-15 years), respectively. The mean LVIDd was 4.3 (SD 1.4) cm. Twenty-one out of 30 subjects experienced a ? 20% increase of LVIDd from baseline. The modified Ross score and echocardiographic score had no significant correlation (r=0.18; P=0.33). However, the modified Ross score had significant correlations with duration of heart disease (r=-0.632; P<0.001) as well as duration of therapy (r=-0.584; P=0.001). In addition, no correlation was found between echocardiographic score with heart disease and therapy duration (P>0.05). Echocardiography score and remodelling process was significantly correlated (r=0.64; P<0.001). Conclusion There is no correlation between modified Ross score and echocardiographic score. Duration of heart disease and duration of therapy are significantly negatively correlated with modified Ross scores. The remodelling process is positively correlated with echocardiographic score. Further research on acute symptomatic and validated echocardiographic scores are needed.

Abstract

In 2019 we found moss praying mantis around the forest in the Bedugul Area of Bali, Indonesia. This species belongs to the family Mantidae, subfamily Nanomantinae, and predicted as member of  Calofulcinia genus based on diagnostics of morphological characteristics, behavior, and habitat. Information about the morphological characteristics and data from the molecular sequencing database of the genus Calofulcinia has been very limited. In this research, the barcoding DNA of mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase I (mtCOI) of the species is noted using paired primers LCO1490 and HCO2198. Based on the sequence analysis (identity matrix and phylogeny analysis), the moss mantis from Bali has low similarity and genetic relationship with other Mantodea species from GenBank database. The data indicate the moss mantis from Bali has not been reported previously. In addition, the distribution of moss mantis species in Bedugul, Bali, Indonesia has just been described and recorded.

Abstract

Jember memiliki potensi perikanan terutama udang sebagai sumber kitin yang merupakan dasar pembuatan kitosan. Kitosan berasal dari limbah kulit udang yang dicampur dengan limbah lain yaitu padatan silika dari Pembangkit Listrik Panas Bumi dan fly ash dari Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap untuk menghasilkan membran yang dapat digunakan dalam filtrasi logam berat dalam air. Membran tanpa silika dibuat sebagai negative control dan dengan silika murni sebagai positive control. Membran kitosan dibuat dengan cara mencampurkan 1,0 gram kitosan dalam 100 mL larutan asam asetat 2% v/v dan 0,8 gram senyawa silika serta 0,5 gram polyethylene glycol. Membran yang telah dibuat diuji untuk menyaring larutan yang mengandung logam berat Cu dan Pb. Konsentratsi optimum dari Cu dan Pb dalam badan cairan dapat dikurangi sebesar 87% dan 80% menggunakan membran kitosan-silika.

Abstract

Tomat merupakan buah yang mengandung kadar air cukup tinggi yang dapat menyebabkan proses pembusukan. Menjadikan tomat ke bentuk bubuk melalui proses pengeringan adalah salah satu cara untuk mengawetkan buah tomat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik serta pengaruh foaming agent tween 80 pada pengeringan buah tomat dengan variasi laju udara fan, waktu dan temperatur. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode pengeringan tray dryer. Penelitian ini menggunakan variabel laju udara fan 3, 4, 5, 6 m/detik, waktu 30, 40, 50, 60 menit serta suhu 40, 50, 60, 70°C. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa laju alir udara optimum untuk mengeringkan tomat yang sudah menjadi busa dengan ketebalan 3 mm yaitu 3 m/s. Waktu pengeringan optimum yaitu 50 menit, dimana pada waktu 50 menit tersebut telah tercapai laju pengeringan yang rendah. Suhu pengeringan optimum yaitu 70°C dengan kecepatan pengeringan 0,005 gram/detik dan moisture content basis kering sebesar 0,06. Dengan demikian, metode ini dapat menjadi solusi untuk mengoptimalkan proses pengeringan tomat secara efisien.

Abstract

Jahe merupakan salah satu rempah-rempah dengan tingkat produksi tertinggi di Indonesia. Jahe termasuk bahan yang mudah rusak dan tidak tahan lama, salah satu cara pengolahan jahe adalah dengan metode pengeringan untuk menjaga kualitas jahe. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman terhadap kadar air, pengaruh waktu dan dimensi ketebalan jahe terhadap laju pengeringan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode pengeringan tray dryer dan pengeringan konvensional menggunakan sinar matahari (solar drying). Penelitian ini menggunakan variabel waktu perendaman 10, 15, 20, 25 jam, waktu pengeringan 60, 90, 120 dan 150 menit serta variabel ketebalan bahan 2, 4, 6, dan 8 mm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar air terendah sebesar 1.0785 g didapatkan saat perendaman 25 jam. Laju pengeringan optimum menggunakan tray dryer sebesar 0,433 g/menit pada waktu 60 menit dan ketebalan 2 mm. Laju pengeringan optimum menggunakan solar dryer didapatkan saat pengeringan selama 90 menit yaitu 0,167 g/menit dan ketebalan 2 mm sebesar 0,133 g/menit. Kualitas pengeringan menggunakan tray dryer lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan solar dryer ditinjau dari warna dan tingkat kekeringan jahe. Dengan demikian, metode ini dapat menjadi solusi untuk mengoptimalkan proses pengeringan jahe secara efisien.
