Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the percentage of reproductive disorders in dairy cows at The Northern Bandung Dairy Farmer Cooperative (KPSBU Lembang) based on body condition score (BCS) and season factor and determined the distribution map. Methods: The object of this study was secondary data on dairy cows from 2019 to 2021 registered on the cooperative database. The parameters of this study were type, case percentage, risk factor, and distribution of reproductive disorders. The data were analyzed descriptively based on BCS and season factors. Results: The percentage results were presented in tables and figures after being processed using Microsoft Excel, while the distribution maps were processed using the QGIS application. The percentages of reproductive disorders in KPSBU Lembang in 2019–2021 respectively as follows: Retained placenta were 11.5%, 14.9%, and 14.4%; Dystocia were 11.5%, 12.6%, and 14.2%. Ovarian function disorders (follicular cyst and corpus luteum cyst) were 10.2%, 8.8%, and 9.9%; Endometritis was 9.3%, 9.5%, and 10.4%. Based on the distribution maps of reproductive disorders, it was known that all villages in Lembang District in 2021 had cows with reproductive disorders. Conclusions: The reproductive disorders in dairy cows at KPSBU Lembang had retained placenta, dystocia, ovarian function disorder (follicular cyst and corpus luteum cyst), and endometritis. Dystocia and retained placenta are the highest cases in KPSBU Lembang during the dry and rainy seasons. Areas that had dairy cows with unideal BCS became the highest area of each type of reproductive disorder cases. Abstract

Abstract

Improving the reproductive efficiency of Sapera goats through artificial insemination necessitates optimal quality of sexed frozen semen. This study aimed to determine the effect of various avian egg yolk types on the viability and longevity of post-thawed Sapera Goat spermatozoa sexed using the Resiquimod-based swim-up method. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four egg yolk types: Commercial Chicken (T1), Native Chicken (T2), Quail (T3), and Duck (T4) as treatments and five replications. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The results indicated that post-thaw viability ranged from 53.30–64.90% in the upper layer, while longevity ranged from 26.17–29.46 hours in the upper layer and 25.11–28.95 hours in the lower layer, showed no significant differences among treatments. Conversely, the egg yolk type significantly influenced viability in the lower layer (P < 0.05). Specifically, Native Chicken (T2), Duck (T4), and Commercial Chicken (T1) egg yolks maintained superior and stable viability (60.90%, 59.80%, and 56.20%), whereas Quail egg yolk (T3) exhibited significantly lower performance (52.40%). These findings suggest that the choice of egg yolk is critical for maintaining the sperm viability of the lower layer in Resiquimod-based sexed semen.

Abstract

Preparation for parturition in goats requires monitoring physiological indicators to improve the accuracy of predicting the timing of parturition and minimize the risk of birthing complications. This study aimed to identify changes in body temperature, vulvar temperature, vulvar length, and vulvar width prior to parturition in Sapera goats. This study utilized eight pregnant Sapera does observed for five days before kidding (D-5 to D0). Parameters analyzed included body temperature, vulvar temperature, vulvar length, and vulvar width, which were then evaluated using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's HSD post-hoc test. The results showed that body temperature differed significantly (P<0.05), with a significant decrease occurring one day before parturition (D-1). Meanwhile, vulvar temperature, vulvar length, and vulvar width showed a shifting trend but were not significantly different. It is concluded that the decrease in body temperature one day prior to parturition can be used as a predictive indicator for the timing of birth in Sapera goats.

Abstract

Egg yolk is an important component of semen extenders that functions to maintain spermatozoa quality during cryopreservation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different egg yolk types in a Tris extender on the abnormality and recovery rate of post-thawing goat spermatozoa following resiquimod-based sexing. The study was conducted as a laboratory experiment using a completely randomized design with four egg yolk type treatments: commercial chicken egg yolk (P1), native chicken egg yolk (P2), quail egg yolk (P3), and duck egg yolk (P4). Fresh Sapera goat semen was processed using a resiquimod-based swim-up method and subsequently cryopreserved in a Tris extender containing each egg yolk type. The observed parameters included spermatozoa abnormality and recovery rate in the upper and lower layers after thawing. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s multiple range test. The results showed that spermatozoa abnormalities ranged from 0.60–1.40% in the upper layer and 0.60–1.10% in the lower layer, with no significant differences among treatments. In contrast, egg yolk type significantly affected the recovery rate. The highest average recovery rate was obtained with commercial chicken egg yolk (42.56%), followed by native chicken (40.37%), duck (39.97%), and quail egg yolk (31.97%). It was concluded that commercial chicken egg yolk was the best egg yolk type for maintaining the recovery rate of post-thawing goat spermatozoa following resiquimod-based sexing.
