Abstract

As an ancient Indonesian art, Batik has been recognized by the United Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Batik is one of the original handicrafts in Indonesia. This research explores three main issues of Bakaran batik legend: community leaders’ viewpoint in Juana, Pati Regency; aspects of context and implicatures; and coherences among themes, visual elements, and images. A qualitative method was conducted in this research. It was conducted in February-April 2022 with a case study at Bakaran Juana Pati district. Data collection techniques were employed through in-depth interviews, non-participatory observation, and document analysis. Data was collected using observations and interviews with eight informants. The data was analyzed using pragmatics. The findings revealed that Bakaran batik has its uniqueness explicitly in its patterns. Numerous designs in Bakaran batik patterns are associated with the legend of Nyai Ageng Danowati, a Majapahit Kingdom’s Batik expert figure who escaped from Majapahit and then lived in Bakaran village Juana district, Pati Regency. It implicitly has legendary aspects when analyzed in terms of possible patterns. Bakaran village’s legendary patterns include the Kembang Druju, the Limaran, the Gandrung, and the Magel Ati. The legend pattern’s context is typically connected with the legend of the Batik figure, Nyai Ageng Danowati, and the implicature of the legendary pattern is related to the moment of Nyai Ageng Danowati for spending her life while she was on the escapement. The visual elements and the image of the legend motif are coherent, and the visual form of the Motif theme is relevant to Nyai Danowati’s life story.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research departs from a problem, namely that students of the Mangkunegaran Art Academy in Surakarta the II semester for the academic year 2021/2022 have difficulty understanding the musicality of the tembang macapat which includes titilaras and laya. Thus, this study aims to describe the learning process of the tembang macapat as an inculcation of the basics of student musicality in the students of the karawitan arts study program at the Mangkunegaran Art Academy in Surakarta. Researchers examine learning from the learning stages (pre, process, and post), learning components (objectives, materials, models, methods, media, and evaluation) and the basics of musicality including titilaras and laya. The research subjects are II semester students for the 2020/2021 academic year. The researcher chose a qualitative method in descriptive form by engaging directly with students and lecturers during the research process to obtain information and data about the learning process. The results of this study prove that there is an influence of the tembang macapat learning process on the cultivation of the basics of musicality in the form of theory and practice. This can be seen from the success of lecturers in instilling the basics of musicality to students as evidenced by 81.25% of students when presenting tembang macapat well in emphasizing titilaras and laya, due to various factors, namely basic conditions and student skills (eg the sound of sasap, blero, false "does not match the tone notation" and the beat of each tembang macapat is not the same), there are still 18.75% of students who have not been able to present the tembang macapat according to the predetermined titilaras and laya. According to the research findings, it can be said that lecturers have succeeded in carrying out their obligations as competent educators, apply learning tools well and are able to form creative, disciplined, independent, and motivated students.ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berangkat dari sebuah permasalahan yaitu mahasiswa Akademi Seni Mangkunegaran Surakarta pada semester II tahun ajaran 2020/2021 mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami tentang musikalitas tembang macapat yang diantaranya titilaras dan laya. Abstract

This research addresses the increasing demand for automated cleaning solutions, particularly for vehicle interiors, where traditional manual cleaning methods often prove inefficient and time-consuming. The primary aim of this study is to develop an autonomous robot vacuum cleaner capable of cleaning the floor of a vehicle by detecting dust or dirt, using a proximity sensor to avoid obstacles, and operating based on input from a dust sensor. The research follows a systematic process, including topic selection, literature review, design challenges, system design, testing, and result analysis, to evaluate the performance and limitations of the proposed system. The results of this research indicate that the robot operates effectively, with optimal movement achieved when the battery voltage ranges between 12.2V and 10.9V. Below 10.9V, the robot’s movement becomes suboptimal. The 60W vacuum cleaner on the robot successfully collects debris such as paper pieces, tissue scraps, and fine soil particles. In conclusion, this car floor vacuuming robot, based on a dust sensor, demonstrates satisfactory functionality in terms of system performance, battery life, movement, and cleaning capability. The study suggests potential for further development, particularly in enhancing technical design and integrating advanced technologies such as autonomous navigation and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Abstract

Making ecoprints to improve skills in using natural materials in learning arts and culture and crafts for elementary school children in Kalijambe, Sragen. Making this ecoprint means that the motifs produced on each fabric have different colors and patterns even though they use the same type of plant leaves. This is due to several factors, the relatively different shapes of the leaves. The introduction of ecoprinting to elementary school children creates a creative experience in learning arts and culture and crafts. Another contribution that can be achieved from this training is the growth of students' awareness of the potential of the environment and the desire to preserve nature. Ecoprint work training also provides real and meaningful learning experiences. Exploring the variety of natural materials around, especially leaves, adds value to aesthetic sensitivity. Apart from that, ecoprints also have quite a lot of selling value.

Abstract

Biochar is an organic soil amendment that can be used as a coating in the production of slow-release fertilizers. This study aimed to determine the growth and yield response of corn in sandy soil due to the application of biochar-coated urea fertilizer, exploring the novelty of using coatings derived from local agricultural waste (which has been understudied) and the effectiveness of fertilizer dosage. The experiment was arranged in a Non-Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments, which were: P0, P1, P2, P3, P4, dan P5. Data were analyzed using ANOVA at 5%, followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% to determine the best treatment. The results showed that biochar-coated urea significantly influenced plant height during the advanced growth phase (42-84 DAP) but not in the early phase (14-28 DAP). For leaf number, treatments had significant effects at 42, 70, and 84 DAP, with P0 consistently yielding the lowest values. Leaf area also increased significantly at 42-84 DAP, with P3 showing the highest trend. The generative phase (flowering and cob development) was significantly affected by treatments. Meanwhile, corn production under P5 matched the results of P1. Implicatively, corn cob biochar-coated urea has the potential to replace conventional urea with a 20% lower dosage without compromising productivity, thereby reducing production costs and environmental pollution risks due to N leaching. These findings highlight opportunities to utilize corn cob waste as an eco-friendly material in slow-release fertilizer production.

Abstract

The effect of biochar on dryland in Madura has not been fully assessed. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of biochar and animal manure on some soil characteristics, namely water content at field capacity, CEC, N total, available P, and N and P absorption, and plant growth of soybean in Alfisol. The research was arranged on a Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. Rice husk biochar was mixed with cow manure and applied at the range of 2.5 - 10 Mg ha-1. The result showed that biochar (2.5 Mg ha-1) and cow manure (7.5 Mg ha-1) improved soil characteristics, plant growth, and soybean yield by 22%. Cow manure in this study would function as a source of nutrients while rice husk biochar acted as storage of nutrients that were then released slowly to soil solution for plant uptake. It was concluded that the mixture of 2.5 Mg rice husk biochar ha-1 and 7.5 Mg cow manure ha-1 could be the best combination of soil amendments to apply in an Alfisol in Madura.

Abstract

Various activities especially in fulfillment daily needs, generate a lot of waste. One of the negative effects of waste generation is the contribution of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere which causes global warming. Every location has waste, both organic and non-organic, or other types. The open space in Bendan Dhuwur campus area is dominated by organic waste due to leaf fall from many trees around. This is a concern because there is no proper waste management and it is immediately burned. This study focuses on analyzing the composition of waste and calculating the contribution of CO2 emissions from domestic waste generation at Bendan dhuwur campus of UPGRIS Semarang. The method used is random sampling accompanied by quantitative descriptive measurements and analysis. The result of the research shows that the calculation of waste composition for leaf waste is 3.58 x 10-3 Gg/year; twig waste 3.6 x 10-4 Gg/year; paper waste 3.57 x 10-4 Gg/year; plastic waste 2.02 x 10-4 Gg/year and CO2 emissions = 2.12 x 10-3 Gg/year; CH4= 2.57 x 10-5 Gg/year (leaves), CO2 = 2.18 x 10-4 Gg/year; CH4=2.58 x 10-6 Gg/year (twig), CO2 = 1.53 x 10-4 Gg/year; CH4= 2.56 x 10-6 Gg/year (paper), CO2 = 0.02 Gg/year; CH4= 1.45 x 10-6 Gg/year (plastic) Keywords: waste, CO2, CH4

Abstract

Foreign language anxiety has been recognized as one of the foremost challenges for language learners. This study intends to explore the sources of non-English freshmen’s anxiety in ESP speaking program and their ways of dealing with it. Similarly, ESP instructors’ solutions to mitigate their freshmen’s anxiety were also discovered. A qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design was conducted to enrich insight and better understand the phenomenon. Data collection involves classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with eight non-English freshmen and two ESP instructors enrolled in ESP speaking program at a private university in Malang, East Java. The data was then analyzed thematically using the interactive model of Miles et al., (2014). It was found that speaking anxiety commonly felt by non-English freshmen was caused by some sources from freshmen’s personal mentality, linguistic capability, and classroom activity. The finding also provides several strategies adopted by freshmen to overcome their anxiety. Furthermore, various approaches implemented by ESP instructors to decrease freshmen’s speaking anxiety were offered. It should be emphasized that anxiety among students will always linger upon learning a foreign language. Still, such learning roadblocks could be diminished. Instructors possess a crucial duty to lessen the worries of learners.

Abstract

Part of the dry land in Madura developed from parent material, namely sand sediments which have a low organic matter content. This study aimed to determine differences in the effectiveness of corn seed coating materials from bentonite, biochar, lignite, and biochar compost on the growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.) under drought stress conditions. This study was conducted at the Integrated Laboratory and screen house of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jember, using a completely randomized design. The treatments tested in this study comprised two factors. The first factor was the treatment of coating materials, namely C0 = without coating (control), C1 = bentonite coating, C2 = biochar coating, C3 = lignite coal coating, and C4 = biochar compost coating. The second factor is the level of drought stress, namely K0 = control (100% KL moisture), K1 = Light stress (80% KL moisture), K2 = moderate stress (60% KL moisture), and K3 = severe stress (40% KL moisture). The results showed that the combination of seed coating agent treatment and drought stress had a significant effect on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, age of male and female flowers, cob length, cob diameter without husks, biomass dry weight, and production potential per hectare. The coal coating material and light drought stress 80% KL (C3K1) was the best combination of seed coating and drought stress treatment.
