Abstract

Processed cocoa products were a source of foreign exchange for Indonesia both before the COVID-19 pandemic and during the pandemic. Malaysia is a neighboring country and Indonesia's strategic trading partner in cocoa and processed exports. This study analyzes export competitiveness and competitiveness factors of Indonesian processed cocoa products in Malaysia. This study uses annual time series data from 2005-2022. This research method uses descriptive quantitative analysis and gravity model analysis. The research results show that there has been a decline in the competitiveness of Indonesian processed cocoa products in Malaysia. The competitiveness of cocoa paste decreased by more than 50%. Domestic cocoa production, Malaysian GDP, and Indonesian GDP influence the value of Indonesian cocoa butter exports in Malaysia. Cocoa butter has shown an increase in export value during the Covid-19 pandemic. Malaysia's GDP and the COVID-19 pandemic have influenced the value of Indonesian cocoa paste exports to Malaysia. Cocoa paste has competitiveness both comparatively and competitively in the Malaysian market.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze: (1) the basic sector and regional specialization of regencies/cities in West Timor, (2) the impact of center and hinterland interactions on regional leakage in regencies/cities in West Timor. The research was carried out in 5 regencies and 1 city in West Timor. The research uses secondary data and primary data (obtained using the snowball technique). The research results state that interactions occur due to the existence of basic commodities, but not necessarily regional specialization. The research results also found that there was a leak from the Hinterland area to the center in West Timor of IDR 757,606,232,- because the benefit center was IDR 1,164,004,961,- while the hinterland benefit was IDR 406,398,729,-. Belu Regency is the regency that received a surplus (IDR 44,746,514). Therefore, each district/city is obliged to determine base commodities and strive for specialization so as to obtain a surplus from center-hinterland interactions.

The data used is GRDP data per sub-district in Belu Regency from 2016 to 2020. Data analysis uses scalograms, economic growth, Williamson index, and correlation. The results of the analysis state that the development of agricultural infrastructure in Kakuluk Mesak District has contributed to the development of the Kakuluk Mesak sub-district area so that it occupies hierarchy II. The impact is an increase in economic growth and regional inequality. Kakuluk Mesak District, which is the location where the Rotiklot Dam was built, has a high correlation between economic growth and regional inequality. Therefore, it is recommended that infrastructure development be more balanced between regions so that equitable development can be achieved.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze marketing channels, marketing functions, marketing margins, and marketing profits of ground coffee in Lakmaras Village, Lamaknen Selatan District, Belu Regency. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and questionnaires with coffee farmers and business actors in the village.  The results of the study indicate that there are three main marketing channels for ground coffee in Lakmaras Village, namely (1) farmers–Bumdes–consumers, (2) Bumdes–contractors–consumers, and (3) Bumdes–contractors–retailers–consumers. Marketing functions include exchange, physical, and provision of facilities involving various marketing institutions in the ground coffee distribution chain. The highest marketing margin occurs in longer marketing channels, while the lowest marketing margin occurs in direct channels from farmers to consumers through Bumdes.  This study also found that marketing efficiency can be increased by shortening the distribution chain and strengthening the role of Bumdes in marketing ground coffee. With marketing optimization, it is expected that coffee farmers in Lakmaras Village can gain greater profits and increase the competitiveness of local ground coffee products.
