Abstract

Shell waste is a natural source of rich biominerals, primarily high-purity calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). This study utilized bamboo shell waste from three locations on the south coast of Pamekasan as a raw material for the synthesis of CaCO₃ compounds. The aim of this research was to characterize the composition of powdered bamboo clam shells as a source of natural calcium. The shells were prepared through several stages, including washing, drying, size reduction, and oven-drying at 105°C. They were then pulverized using a ball mill and sieved through a 200-mesh sieve. The resulting shell powder was characterized using XRF, FTIR, and XRD. The XRF results showed that the dominant chemical elements from the three locations were calcium (Ca) and its oxide compound (CaO), with average percentages of 97.95% and 98.09%, respectively. The FTIR analysis indicated the presence of CaCO₃ functional groups, namely CO₃²⁻, C–O, Ca–O, and C–H, identified by absorption peaks in range 400-4000 cm⁻¹. The XRD results confirmed that bamboo clam shells powders were contained of CaCO₃ as a single phase with the crystalline structure of aragonite (orthorhombic). Based on these results, it can be concluded that bamboo clam shell powder is a viable source of natural calcium minerals.

Abstract

Abstract

The research aims to analyze the efficiency of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, focusing on the development of students’ creativity skills on the topic of heat. Creativity is one of the most essential skills in the 21st century. A quasi-experimental method was employed in this study, using a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The population of this research consisted of Grade XI senior high school students. The study used an essay test comprising four questions, developed around aspects of creativity, including fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The research findings show that implementing the PjBL model in the experimental class significantly increases creative thinking skills. The hypothesis test results were reinforced by a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. H1 was accepted because the experimental group applied the project-based learning model. These findings demonstrate that the project-based learning model is effective in enhancing creativity skills. The control group obtained an N-Gain score of 0.33, classified as low, while the experimental group achieved an N-Gain score of 0.56, classified as medium. In addition, the obtained effect size of 1.9683 indicated a very large effect size. Thus, the PjBL model is effective for use in physics learning activities aimed at optimizing students’ creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Mostly in rural areas in developing countries, biomass and fossil fuels are used for cooking. These fuels have negative impacts on the environment and human health. One solution to the problem is cooking using solar-powered stoves as a clean and environmentally friendly alternative energy. In this research, a literature study was conducted related to solar cookers which are divided into several types based on their geometric shape, namely box, parabolic, tube, and panel types. This research examines the performance of solar cookers, namely solar cooker efficiency (η%). In this literature study, the development of stoves from 2012 to 2023 has been reviewed and focused on. The sub-topics discussed revolve around the details of the geometry shape of the solar cooker on the performance of the solar cooker on the parameter of heat efficiency generated. The main conclusion of this review is that box-type solar cookers are more researched than other types of solar cookers, indicating that box-type solar cookers are more in demand and more economical in the manufacturing process. The highest average heat efficiency (η%) is produced by the tube-type solar cooker and the lowest is produced by the parabolic-type solar cooker. Other parameters also affect the efficiency of solar cookers, namely the intensity of solar radiation, the type of absorber/heat storage material, the use of reflectors with the right position (zenith and azimuth angles), the use of a tight cover pan (vacuum tube) for certain types of solar cookers and the length of cooking time.
