Abstract

Introduction & Objective : Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness affecting 94 million worldwide including 77,7% blindness of Indonesians with prevalence in people aged over 50 years reaching 1,9%. This study aimed to describe the socio-demographic characteristics and visual acuity of patients who underwent phacoemulsification cataract surgery at Pandaan Eye Clinic. Methods : Patients were consecutively included from January 2022 to December 2022. Data of age, gender, area of residence, occupation, comorbid systemic disease, laterality, intraocular lens (IOL) power, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after four weeks of surgery was obtained. Visual acuity (VA) is classified in the WHO category. Data were recorded in sheets and proceeded using SPSS. Results : There were 1583 eyes out of 1230 patients with 55,4% having done unilateral cataract surgery and the most used IOL power at the range 19.00 to 23.00D (75%). The mean age was 60,83 ? 9,05 years and 53,9% were male. Most of them live in Pasuruan Regency (77,7%), without systemic comorbidity (68,8%), and work outdoors (62,2%). Before cataract surgery, most of the patients had blindness (57,6%) (presenting VA <3/60). The BCVA outcomes were 6/6 to 6/18 in 1129 eyes (71,3%). Conclusion : This study marked the immense incidence of cataracts as a cause of blindness, particularly in males. The increase in cataract surgery performed also determines that eye care services reach a certain area. Therefore, eye health resources must be evenly available throughout the country to reduce the impact of socio-demographic status

Abstract

Highlights: 1. This study investigated the etiology of paralytic strabismus, a condition that requires further research to prevent its incidence, particularly in adults. 2. The findings of this study provided valuable insight into the primary etiology of paralytic strabismus and its underlying factors. Abstract Paralytic strabismus is the most common cause of adult-onset strabismus. It can result from paralysis of the third, fourth, or sixth cranial nerves, either separately or in combination, which are responsible for innervating the ocular motor muscles. Paralysis of these cranial nerves occurs due to congenital disorders, neoplasms, trauma, intracranial processes, idiopathic diseases, and other causes. This study aimed to determine the etiology of paralytic strabismus incidence at the Department of Ophthalmology of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, between 2017 and 2022. This study employed a retrospective methodology and utilized total sampling. The medical records of patients diagnosed with paralytic strabismus were used to collect secondary data. Out of the total of 282 cases, the most common condition was combined ocular motor cranial nerve palsy, which accounted for 102 (36.2%) cases. The main factors contributing to this condition were neoplasms (37.2%), intracranial processes (25.5%), trauma (25.5%), other causes (8.8%), idiopathic diseases (2%), and congenital disorders (1%). The incidence of third cranial nerve palsy and sixth cranial nerve palsy was equally prevalent, each accounting for 86 (30.5%) cases. Meanwhile, fourth cranial nerve palsy was the least frequent with just eight (2.8%) cases. This study concluded that the most frequent etiology of paralytic strabismus was combined ocular motor nerve paralysis, which primarily results from neoplasms.

Abstract

The digital transformation of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has become an essential requirement in the modern economic era, particularly in tourist villages that rely on the creative economy sector. Sesaot Tourism Village, located in West Lombok, holds significant potential in culinary, handicraft, and tourism services; however, it still faces limitations in adopting digital payment technologies. This community service activity aims to improve the digital literacy of MSMEs, encourage the adoption of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), and evaluate its impact on business performance. The implementation methods included socialization, technical training, implementation assistance, and impact evaluation. The results showed a significant increase in the number of MSMEs adopting QRIS, rising from 20% before the program to 75% afterward. The positive impacts of QRIS adoption were reflected in transaction efficiency, transparent financial recording, an average revenue increase of 15–20%, and higher customer satisfaction among tourists. These findings highlight QRIS as a key driver of MSME digital transformation and a catalyst for strengthening the creative economy in Sesaot Tourism Village.

Abstract

Background: Orbital inflammation is a benign inflammatory condition affecting the eye socket and can involve the orbital soft tissue, ocular muscles, and optic nerve. The diagnosis of orbital inflammation can be tricky due to the lack of standardized clinical criteria and the potential for overlap with other orbital diseases. Method: This retrospective, observational, and analytical study focused on patients diagnosed with orbital inflammation at The Outpatient Ophthalmology Oncology Clinic. Data from 68 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were classified and analyzed with descriptive statistics, and the Chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR) was used to measure the likelihood of two clinical characteristics occurring together, indicating the strength of the relationship between paired symptoms that may commonly appear simultaneously in orbital inflammation. Result: Most patients were female (55.9%) and within the 18-75 age group (97.1%). Orbital inflammation predominantly presented unilaterally (89.7%). The study found that the most frequent clinical characteristics were proptosis, red eyes, decreased vision, and orbital pain. Among all assessed clinical characteristics, proptosis and red eye showed the most significant association, followed by proptosis and dry eye, red eye and eyelid edema, and proptosis and ptosis. Conclusion: Orbital inflammation presents with a wide range of clinical characteristics, reflecting the diverse inflammatory processes that may occur in the orbit. The study identified key clinical characteristics of orbital inflammation, including proptosis, red eyes, decreased vision, and orbital pain. Particularly between proptosis and red eye, followed by proptosis and dry eye, red eye and eyelid edema, and proptosis and ptosis. These clinical features, when found together, support clinicians in recognizing and establishing a diagnosis of orbital inflammation.
