Abstract

As age progresses, the elderly will experience a degenerative process which one of the impacts will cause a decrease in the ability to maintain balance in the elderly so that it will increase the risk of falling. To overcome this risk, it is necessary to give exercises to improve balance and muscle strength in lower extremity, one of which is step marching exercise. This exercise has alternating leg lifting movements by following a rhythm or beat. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of step marching exercise in reducing the risk of falls in the elderly. Method: The experimental research method used pre and post test control group design using 24 respondents divided into group 1 (control / placebo) and group 2 (treatment / step marching exercise) with measuring instruments in the form of questionnaires Falls Efficacy Scale-International. The pre and post test results of both groups used the Paired Sample T-test where group 1 did not have a significant difference with a p value = 0.191 while in group 2 there was a significant difference with a p value = 0.000. In the difference test of groups 1 and 2 using the Independent Sample T-test, a significant difference was obtained with a difference value of p = 0.000. It can be concluded that step marching exercise is effective in reducing the risk of falls in the elderly

Abstract

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries in the knee joint. One of the treatments for this injury is reconstruction. Pain is one of the most frequent problems that occur following reconstruction. Isometric quadriceps exercise can be given to reduce pain after phase I reconstruction in patients with ACL injuries. This study was a pre-experimental study with a one group pre and post-test design. This study was conducted in the outpatient room of Bali Royal Hospital Denpasar from March to May 2022. The subjects of this study were 20 patients with ACL injury following phase I reconstruction at Bali Royal Hospital, who met the eligibility criteria of this study. The quadriceps isometric exercise was performed 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Pain was measured using the visual analogue scale (VAS). In this study, the average pain score before and after exercise was 6 ± 1.257 and 3.4 ± 1.046 respectively. The results of data analysis on pain reduction using the paired t-test showed p = 0.000 (p <0.05), it means that there was a significant reduction in pain following isometric quadriceps exercise. It can be concluded that isometric quadriceps exercise can reduce pain in patients following phase I reconstruction of the ACL at Bali Royal Hospital.

Abstract

Introduction: Myogenic Low Back Pain is an uncomfortable pain on the lower back, often caused by musculoskeletal disorders resulting in pain and disability. This case report aims to review ergonomic intervention on physical therapy program on myogenic low back pain. Case description: A 45-years-old man working as a roof tile craftsman complained of pain in the lower back area and already felt it for 1 month ago. The pain did not radiate to the leg. The patient has no neurological signs and symptoms. Patient-reported that he had experienced the same incident about 9 times in the last 3 years ago. The patient always performed bending motion and lifting the roof tile every day. The patient has been visited physical therapy and received ergonomic intervention and physical therapy programs such as core stability exercise, soft tissue mobilization and modalities for seven weeks. Following the ergonomic intervention and therapeutic exercise application, the Visual Analogue Scale score decreased from 6 to 0. The Modified Oswestry Disability Index score gradually decreased from 60% disability to 0% disability. The patient no longer complained of MLBP and was able to lift the roof tile well. Conclusion: After a seven-weeks physical therapy treatment session, the patient did not feel pain and can perform forward bending. Modified Oswestry Disability Index score improved and demonstrated improved lifting the roof tile without any complaints. We concluded that the ergonomic intervention combined with physical therapy programs effectively decreased pain and disability level on a subject with MLBP

Abstract

Background: The elderly are very sensitive to disease and health problems. The lack of economic support, such as nutritious food as the source of energy, is the most often cause of health problems in the elderly. Reduced energy in the elderly's body causes the elderly's lack of physical activity, which affects the VO2max level of the elderly. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity and VO2max in the elderly. Methods: The research design was a cross-sectional study conducted in March 2021 with a population of all elderly in Banjar Tegalnarungan, Sobangan Village, Mengwi District, Bali, Indonesia, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling technique in this study was total sampling and obtained 38 people. This study used the International Physical Activity Questionnaire questionnaire and 6 Minutes Walking Test to measure the physical activity levels and VO2max, respectively. Data were analyzed by computer software, namely Somers'd to determine the relationship between physical activity and VO2max in the elderly. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between physical activity and VO2max, resulting in p < 0.001. Conclusion: There is a significant positive relationship between physical activity and VO2max in the elderly, which represents the higher the physical activity level, the higher VO2max belongs to the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of disease. One of the unhealthy lifestyle patterns is consuming cigarettes. Smoking can also reduce the affinity of oxygen for hemoglobin so that it can affect oxygen saturation levels in the blood. This study aimed to determine the relationship between smoking dose, oxygen saturation, and cardiorespiratory endurance in adult men. Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional study with an adult male population in the Tampaksiring Village, Bali, Indonesia, in which they qualified for the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Adult men were selected by purposive sampling. It was obtained 52 samples. The measurement of smoking dose using the Brinkman index, the measurement of oxygen saturation using oximetry, and the measurement of cardiorespiratory endurance using the Harvard step test. Data were analyzed using computer software with the Spearman rank test to determine the relationship between smoking dose with oxygen saturation and cardiorespiratory endurance in adult men. Results: The results showed that from 52 adult men were obtained by analysis result of the relationship between smoking dose and oxygen saturation where p= 0.000 (p<0.05) and the analysis result of the relationship between smoking dose and cardiorespiratory endurance with p= 0.000 (p<0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between smoking dose with oxygen saturation and cardiorespiratory endurance in adult men in Tampaksiring Village, Bali, Indonesia

Abstract

Background: Many wood processing factories use giant machines to cut or shave wood according to the required needs. When processing wood, the condition workers experience exposure related to machine-generated noise. Exposure to noise generated from the work on average > 85 dB. Conditions of working hours are also long, up to 8 hours per day. There are several impacts caused by the presence of noise, one of which is the occurrence of sleep disturbances. This study aimed to determine the relationship between noise level and workers' sleep quality at the Rana Bhumi wood processing factory, Gianyar, Bali-Indonesia. Methods: The research design was a cross-sectional study with a population of 30 samples of wood processing factory workers at Rana Bhumi, Gianyar, Indonesia, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measure noise level using a sound level meter and measurement of sleep quality using the Pittsburgh sleeping quality index (PSQI). The data were analyzed using computer software with Spearman's rank test to determine the significant relationship between noise level and sleep quality in wood processing factory workers. Results: The results showed that 30 factory workers were obtained by analyzing the relationship between noise level and sleep quality, where p=0.000 (p<0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between noise levels and sleep quality in wood processing factory workers in Rana Bhumi, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia.
