Abstract

The village of Bayung Gede is one of the Bali Aga villages that still firmly maintain the traditions and values of traditional Balinese life. This pattern of traditional life appears in religious ritual, social and agricultural activities carried out by the community. Ritual activities in the village can be seen in the ceremony of menek bayan1) , a wedding ceremony which uses cows as payment, the ceremony of ari-ari2) in which the placenta is hung, ngaben or cremation ceremony and the traditional ceremony in the temple. Social activities conducted by the community can be seen in the activities of joy (marriage, teeth filing, three month ceremonies), and grief (death, sickness, and cremation), mutual cooperation in the temple and cleaning the tools, the use of organic fertilizers, the use of plants for consumption. These cultural activities can be utilized and presented as cultural tourism attractions, thereby generating economic benefits for the local community.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe a tourism industry which needs a variety of tourism products with an implication on the emergence of various forms of business opportunities with large, medium and small scales. The presence of a variety of tourists’ needs have caused a variety of tourism products too. Agriculture, animal husbandry, and handicraft which are needed by tourists are sectors which need a lot of workers as producers, distributors and sellers. In the study reported in the present paper is shown that the agricultural products of Bali cannot only be used as agro-tourism, but whose products can also be processed to become a variety of handicrafts. Similarly, animal husbandry which Balinese community people have focused on produces products that can be offered in a culinary tourism in which they are processed by using Balinese ingredients and offered in an appropriate wrapping which suits the market needs, while the specificity of Balinese culture has been able to produce a variety of forms of handicrafts the local and foreign tourists love. Through developments in the three sectors above, if the people can focus their attention on them and if the government can accommodate it that will be able to be used as an alternative solution to the national economy. Although in their actions they can only serve as sellers, as what has been the focus of street vendors, they actually act as safety valve of the government in overcoming unemployment problems and economic problems for themselves and their families. For this reason, it is expected that the government gives them a more conducive condition for the improvement of economy to be made starting from the family level, as part of the state of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study was aimed at explaining jewelry production, its development and implications of the developing trends. This study was conducted in Celuk Village, Gianyar Regency, a place or arena of production, distribution and at the same time sale of jewelry in Bali, Indonesia, in which Celuk is regarded as the basis for jewelry. This paper explains the development of jewelry at the beginning of the emergence of tourism and the implications, and the introduction of casting machine as the method of production which had an implication in the change of human labor, in which the artisans became machine power regarded as more professional in jewelry production. The data of this ethnographic study were collected through observation, in-depth interview, library research, and internet search. The finding showed that the presence of jewelry that is developing in Celuk Village does not give an optimal positive contribution to the community of the village as artisans, but in stead, it gives profits to the people outside the village who are involved in the development of the jewelry trends. The entrance of tourism with the implication on the high level of jewelry production and sale in Celuk Village started from 1980s gave profits to tour guides who were regarded as the ones who deserve to get fee in a large amount by the artisans. When there was a trend in jewelry in 2010-2014, in which the demand for jewelry like accessories for kebaya cloth for going to the temple and a ring with gemstone drove away the artisans whose position had been replaced by casting machines and workers who came from outside of Celuk Village who were regarded more professional by jewelry business people in producing standard jewelry in a large quantity. In this paper it is understood that artisans in Celuk Village are not able to obtain an optimal use from jewelry trends that develop in their location due to various factors such as the low level of education of the artisans, low level of profesionalism in working, and the low level of ability of the artisans in production management

Abstract

The pandemic has an impact on the economic decline of the people in Bali, especially in Denpasar, which is the provincial capital. The government has taken various ways to help people survive in difficult times. This study aims to analyze and describe the resilience strategy of the Denpasar City community during the COVID-19 pandemic by observing the recipients of the PIP2 (Pandemic Incubation Program) stimulus program. Collecting research data using a questionnaire method (Google Form), interviews with respondents (either directly or indirectly/WhatsApp), and documentation. The data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively using a cultural studies approach. In this study, it was found that the stimulus program provided by the Denpasar City Government was welcomed by people who had a Denpasar ID card by submitting a proposal for submitting funds by showing the business being developed. Capital in the form of cash received can be used to expand their business even though only a few participants are able to survive until the program ends. In addition to continuing to innovate products through direct or by WhatsApp discussions with a business incubator as a companion, participants who received the PIP2 stimulus program also used social media to sell products. Keywords: Community, Denpasar, Program, Resilience, Stimulus, Strategy
