Abstract

Abstract

Plastic is widely used in Indonesia, but its non-biodegradable nature causes accumulation and environmental pollution. As a solution, more eco-friendly bioplastics have been developed. This study aims to produce and analyze pudding spoon molds made from Polylactic Acid (PLA) and cassava starch using the injection molding method. The process began with product and mold design using Autodesk Fusion 360 with product dimensions of 125.5 × 25.2 × 2 mm and mold dimensions of 132 × 60 × 35.6 mm. Mold Flow simulation was conducted to analyze parameters such as fill confidence, visual defects, warpage, air traps, and deflection. The mold was manufactured using CNC machining with aluminum 5052 material. The PLA and cassava starch mixtures were varied, heated at a mold temperature of 160 °C and injection temperature of 190 °C, with a cooling time of approximately 5 minutes. The comparison between simulation and actual results showed dimensional differences for each material variation. The largest deviation occurred at a ratio of 40% PLA and 60% cassava starch, reaching 14.9%, while the best result was obtained at a ratio of 50% PLA and 50% cassava starch with only 0.72% deviation from the initial design. This study indicates that material composition significantly affects the dimensional quality of bioplastic products produced through the injection molding process.

Abstract

Abrasion is a common wear mechanism that occurs in machine components due to repeated frictional contact, particularly in aluminum materials that are widely used because of their light weight and corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, aluminum remains susceptible to wear when the lubrication system does not perform optimally. This study aims to design and develop a laboratory-scale abrasion testing machine and to analyze the effect of rotational speed on the wear behavior of aluminum 6061 under oil lubrication. The research employed a research and development method consisting of design, fabrication, assembly, functional testing, and abrasion testing stages. Abrasion tests were conducted at rotational speeds of 500, 1000, and 1500 RPM with a constant load of 3 kg, a test duration of 30 minutes, and Shell SAE 10W-30 oil as the lubricant. Quantitative data were obtained from the measurement of specimen mass loss before and after testing, while qualitative analysis focused on machine performance and operational stability during testing. The results indicate that the developed abrasion testing machine operated properly and was capable of producing consistent wear data. The mass loss of aluminum specimens increased with higher rotational speeds, with the highest average wear observed at 1500 RPM. This study contributes by providing a simple and cost-effective abrasion testing machine for laboratory applications and by offering insights into the influence of rotational speed on the wear behavior of aluminum under lubricated conditions.

Abstract

One of the key elements in making high-quality sponge cake batter is consistent and precise mixing, ensuring all ingredients are well-blended and producing the air bubbles necessary for softness. The aim of this machine redesign was to overcome the limitations of the previous design by using a multi-stage pulley. By redesigning the machine, it can be tailored to more specific operational needs, improve product quality, and minimize wasted time. To achieve this goal, the sponge cake mixer, which previously used a fixed-size pulley system, was updated to be more efficient in regulating rotation speed. Therefore, research was conducted by replacing the pulley size variations with a 5-inch diameter with 840 rpm, 6 inches with 700 rpm, and 7 inches with 600 rpm. During the testing process, the dough was mixed and the time required until the dough was ready was recorded.Based on the results of the trial using a multi-level pulley, it was found that the average time for mixing sponge cake batter with a 5-inch pulley produced an average time of 37 minutes, while a 6-inch pulley produced an average time of 46 minutes, and for a 7-inch pulley produced an average time of 55 minutes. A 5-inch diameter pulley is the appropriate size for use in a redesigned sponge cake batter mixer machine because it produces the fastest mixing time, which is an average of 37 minutes, with a rotation speed of 840 rpm. This pulley size is able to increase the efficiency of production time without reducing the quality of the dough mixing results

Abstract

Waste management issues have become a national concern with serious impacts on social, economic, health, and environmental aspects. The low level of awareness among communities and industrial actors in managing waste has contributed to environmental pollution. Along with the development of cities and regions, the volume of waste including used lubricating oil from vehicles and motorized machinery continues to increase. Not only in large cities, but small workshops in rural areas also generate used oil waste, resulting in its widespread distribution across Indonesia. This study employed a field experimental method. The approach was conducted by testing fuel mixture compositions in a stove fueled by used oil to observe the effect of fuel composition on the combustion process. The results indicate that variations in fuel composition significantly affect combustion quality. In the mixture of used oil and kerosene, a ratio of 40:60 produced the highest flame temperature of 378°C, the fastest cooking time of 4.05 minutes, and a blue flame indicating more optimal combustion. In contrast, the 60:40 mixture resulted in the lowest temperature of 318°C, the longest cooking time of 5.07 minutes, and a predominantly orange flame. For the mixture of used oil and biodiesel (biosolar), the 40:60 ratio also demonstrated the best performance, achieving the highest flame temperature of 380°C, the fastest cooking time of 3.52 minutes, and a stable blue flame.

Abstract

Silage is a method of providing cow feed that requires a forage chopping process so that it is easy to ferment and has a longer shelf life. However, most breeders still do the enumeration manually, so it takes a long time and the size of the enumeration is not uniform. Therefore, this study aims to design an elephant grass chopper with dual input and output funnels, equipped with a knife and a beater to speed up cutting and crush harder materials. This machine is expected to be able to produce a uniform size of 2–5 cm according to the SNI 7785.1:2003 standard This research method uses a 4D Research and Development (R&D) model to design and test a elephant grass chopper. The stages include literature review, design, machine construction and assembly, and then functional testing using elephant grass as the test material in three trials. The test data is analyzed to assess the machine's performance and feasibility. The results of the study show that the designed elephant grass chopper can operate well. Based on the function test at 1500 rpm with a test material load of 5 kg, the machine produces a chopping size of 2–5 cm with a working capacity of 92 kg/hour, so it is considered suitable for use to support the process of making silage for cattle feed and increase efficiency compared to manual methods.
