Abstract

The implementation of community service carried out by vocational colleges certainly refers to the application of existing community skills in the educational environment. Increased knowledge and skills can be followed by an increase in the competitiveness of an educational institution. The implementation of the Solar Panel Module learning system and the basic introduction of electrical circuits will spur the development of learning systems through development of technology and information. Training with the application of the Solar Panel Module design method and the basic practice module of electrical circuits can answer the problems that exist in partners. The Collaborative Community Service Training that will be held is expected to establish a good relationship between the TCSC team of Medan State Polytechnic by involving institutions from other universities at home and abroad and Muhammadiyah 12 Elementary School Medan as a fostered partner by establishing an electrical engineering extracurricular activity at the elementary school level that can compete with other schools. The implementation of the training and learning methods is conducted in several stages. Firstly, a survey of activity implementation is conducted to build joint commitment with partners. This is followed by transferring knowledge gained from the Solar Panel Module training, which ultimately prepares for the establishment of a technology-based electrical engineering extracurricular activity tailored to the elementary school level.

Abstract

Kebutuhan akan energi listrik yang terus meningkat di Indonesia menuntut adanya solusi inovatif yang ramah lingkungan, salah satunya adalah dengan memanfaatkan energi surya. Kegiatan pengabdian Thematic Community Service Collaboration (TCSC) bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan penggunaan panel surya sebagai pembangkit listrik tenaga surya di Sekolah SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Medan dengan fokus kepada perancangan PLTS sederhana  sebagai pelatihan penerapan teknologi tepat guna dengan skala pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam Pengabdian ini yaitu metode ceramah dilanjutkan dengan metode diskusi dan tanya jawab dilanjutkan dengan metode demonstrasi alat beserta cara kerjanya dan metode interaksi langsung yaitu siswa dan guru dapat mencoba atau mempraktikkan secara langsung. Kegiatan Pengabdian ini memiliki tahapan kerja, dimulai tahap melakukan survei sampai tahap evalusi agar kegiatan Pengabdian sesuai target, yaitu menambah pengetahuan, ketrampilan dan kreatifitas guru dan siswa terhadap perkembangan teknologi berupa penerapan panel surya sebagai pembangkit listrik tenaga surya dalam mendukung program hemat energi.

Abstract

Efficient energy manitoring and overload protection on distribution transformers are very much needed. This study aims to develop a power usage management system and overload protection integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, with a specific target to monitor and manage power usage on distribution transformers in real time, as well as provide automatic protection against overload conditions. The methodology used in this study involves the design and implementation of hardware and software that supports wireless communication and data analysis. This system is also equipped with a power reading and protection mechanism that can automatically cut off the electricity flow when an overload detection occurs, in order to prevent damage to the transformer, it is expected that this system can increase the efficiency of power usage management and provide a quick response to overload conditions. The implementation of this system is expected to reduce operational costs and increase the reliability of electricity supply on the distribution network. Based on the tests that have been carried out, it has been proven that the system has worked well in maintaining important variables in the power usage management system and overload protection on the Internet of Things integrated distribution transformer.
