Abstract

Research has been conducted on the prevention strategy of fishing vessel waste pollution carried out in April 2024 with the location at Tarempa Coastal Fishing Port. This research aims to formulate a plan for preventing fishing vessel waste at Tarempa Coastal Fishing Port. This research used a survey method with a purposive sampling technique. The data taken in this study are the type and amount of waste from ship activities during mooring, ship maintenance and repair, and maintenance and repair of fishing gear at the Tarempa PPP. The results of observations in the field found that the management done before was only in the form of burning, disposing of garbage in trash cans, hoarding garbage, and some throwing garbage into the sea. Based on the results of the analysis of waste prevention strategies, ten management alternatives were found, including port management needs to establish partnerships with crew members and the community to prevent waste generation at PPP Tarempa, apply rewards for crew members who manage waste well, improve cleaning and waste management facilities at PPP Tarempa, increase routine supervision to prevent waste generation at PPP Tarempa, apply punishment for crew members who pollute the environment, provide counseling and K3 training for crew members at PPP Tarempa, optimize the function of cleaning and waste management facilities at PPP Tarempa.

Abstract

Plastic waste has been identified as an environmental problem by the UN Environment Program because it causes damage to the marine environment, organisms, and critical habitats. One ecosystem vulnerable to plastic waste is mangroves, so the government continues to tackle this problem. Bintan Island has a relatively large mangrove ecosystem, and some of it is included in the vulnerable category, so it is necessary to conduct a study regarding plastic waste and microplastics on Bintan Island. The research aims to identify the abundance of macro and meso debris in the mangrove ecosystem area, the abundance and characteristics of microplastics in sediment in the mangrove ecosystem area, microplastic contamination in gastropods (Telescopium sp), the relationship between mangrove density and macro debris density, and the relationship between macro debris density and mesoderm and microplastic. The research was conducted in October 2021 in Bintan Regency and Tanjung Pinang City. Data was collected using survey methods, microplastic abundance analysis, and correlation analysis. The mass of macro debris in the Tanjungpinang City administrative area is 743 g/m2. It is dominated by plastic, with a percentage of 49%, and meso debris, 94% of the total waste, is dominated by plastic waste. The characteristics of microplastics in sediment at each sampling location consist of fibers, fragments, and films. The most common microplastic contamination in Telescopium sp in the Bintan Regency area was film-type microplastics, totaling 198.33 particles. The relationship between mangrove density and macro debris generation is very strong, with a correlation value of 0.872. The relationship between the abundance of macro debris and meso debris and microplastics was strong, with correlation values of 0.972 and 0.793, respectively

Abstract

Abstract

Petroleum industry activities produce waste such as petroleum hydrocarbons which damage to the soil environment due to changes in soil physical, chemical and biological properties. Oil Spill Dispersant (OSD) is a product that can break down waste of oil into small parts so that it can be dispersed naturally. Laboratory experiments aimed to find out optimize and performance test of OSD in the process of bioremediation with using bio-slurry technique on contaminated soil with heavy oil was carried out at Laboratory of Surfactant and Bio-energy Research Center (SBRC), Research and Community Service Institute of Bogor Agricultural University on January - August 2018 using contaminated soil with heavy oil. The experiment used Response Surface Method (RSM) with two factors, namely the incubation time factor (X1) and the Dispersant to oil ratio (DOR) (X2). The observed variables were soil Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), pH, total microbes, and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) at soil solution. The results showed that the treatment of incubation time and its combination with DOR significantly reduced soil TPH, increased soil acidity, and increased soil total B. megaterium, but did not significantly affect on COD in soil solutions. Optimization of OSD with RSM showed that the higher DOR of OSD and the longer the incubation time, the higher also the rate of biodegradation of TPH. The optimum conditions were reached at DOR of 1.16:1 and incubation time of 7 days which were able to degrade soil TPH of 54.30%. The optimum conditions of soil pH (8.825) was reached at DOR of 1:1 and incubation time of 5 days, as well as the optimum conditions of B. megaterium (8.35 log CFU g-1) was reached at DOR of 0.86:1 and incubation time of 7 days. Oil spill dispersant (OSD) increased COD in soil solution in both uncontaminated and contaminated soils with heavy oil.
