Abstract

The implementation of Biology learning in senior high schools still faces various challenges, particularly the limitations of laboratory facilities and the low level of students’ science process skills(KPS). KPS  is an essential ability that supports conceptual understanding and critical thinking development through practical activities. This community service program aimed to improve students’ basic laboratory skills and KPS through hands-on training. The program was conducted at the Biology Education Laboratory of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Kuningan University, involving students from SMAN 1 Ciwaru. The methods included socialization, laboratory equipment training, preparation of practical materials, animal dissection training, application of virtual laboratory technology, and mentoring and evaluation sessions. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ abilities to use laboratory tools, prepare materials, and perform experiments according to scientific procedures. Before the training, only 32% of students were able to use laboratory equipment correctly, while after the training, this increased to 84%. The average scores for observation, measurement, data interpretation, and scientific communication also improved significantly. Furthermore, a satisfaction survey revealed an average score of 4.6 out of 5, with 92% of participants stating that the activity was very beneficial. This program proved effective in enhancing students’ basic laboratory and science process skills, providing meaningful, applicable, and sustainable science learning experiences. Abstract

The community service program titled “Digital Literacy Transformation through Canva as a Strategic Step for Strengthening Education and Empowering the Potential of Susukan Village toward Independence” was implemented to enhance the digital literacy competencies of rural communities, particularly among youth. This initiative was motivated by the low level of digital-based educational literacy, limited use of interactive learning media, and the lack of promotional content supporting the creative economy in Susukan Village. The implementation method employed a community-based empowerment approach through five main stages: socialization, training, technology application, mentoring and evaluation, and the establishment of the Village Digital Literacy Center. The training was conducted through hands-on practice, including the introduction of basic Canva features, the creation of interactive learning media, and the development of village branding content. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ skills: 80% were able to produce at least three usable designs, 72% successfully created independent educational or promotional content, and participant satisfaction reached 91%. Moreover, participants’ digital literacy scores increased to 82.4 after the training. The establishment of the Village Digital Literacy Center serves as a strategic step to ensure program sustainability and autonomous knowledge transfer at the local level. Overall, this activity successfully promoted digital literacy transformation in Susukan Village, strengthened the community’s ability to utilize technology for education and local potential empowerment, and fostered an adaptive and self-reliant village in the digital era.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the application of the Investigasi Group learing model in improving the cognitive abilities of students in natural sciences subjects, namely the Excretion System material. This research is a Quasi eksperimental study, with a nonquivalent control group desaign. The population of this study was all students of class VIII 2018/2019 achool year. The research sample is one eksperimental class as a control class. Hypotesis testing using parametric statistical tests using t test obtained tcaount > ttable is 9,337 > 2,682, which means learning using the Group Investigasi model can improve cognitif abilities. Cognitive ability test results abtained the percentage of the average value for the experimental class that is 58,85. N gain results for the medium category and for the control class 0,40 in the medium  category. Form the results of the questionnaire data analysis as many as 89 % of students agreed that tehe Investigasi Geoup model could increase learining motivation. The results showed there was an increase in cognitive abilities in students using the Group Investigasi model

Abstract

This study aims to develop an authentic assessment and analyze the implementation of a project-based authentic assessment with a scientific approach in biology practicum. The research method employed was Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) design model. The results showed that, based on expert validation, the content expert evaluation yielded a score of 85.27% and the media expert evaluation yielded 80.35%, indicating that the developed authentic assessment is valid and suitable for use. The practicality test revealed that the use of project-based authentic assessment obtained a percentage score of 83.34%, categorized as practical. The practicality indicators measured included ease of use, clarity of instructions, adequacy of allocated time, and the suitability of the assessment format to user needs. The effectiveness test indicated that the use of project-based authentic assessment obtained a percentage score of 83.35%, categorized as highly effective. The effectiveness indicators measured included the assessment’s ability to optimally measure learning outcomes, the alignment of project tasks with learning objectives, the improvement of students’ skills, and the achievement of learning outcomes as targeted. The findings of this study recommend the use of project-based authentic assessment for learning activities in all practicum courses within the Biology Education study program.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate teachers' and students' perceptions of the use of metaphor in learning biology including the effectiveness of and the interest in using metaphor in learning biology. The investigation builds on assumption that metaphor is a potential method to alter the way teachers and students respond to abstract and complex concepts. The data in this study was obtained qualitatively using the triangulation method involving Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with an expert group and individual interviews. The instrument utilized in this study is a discussion guide and an interview guide containing open questions which later was transcribed and analyzed. The respondents of this study are 30 biology teachers and 71 senior high school students from three districts in West Java, Indonesia.  The result shows that teachers and students respond positively to the use of metaphors in learning biology concepts. In addition, teachers express that metaphor helps in delivering abstract and complex biology concepts as well as developing creativity in teaching. Meanwhile, students express that metaphor has the potential to help them understand biology concepts, increase interest in learning biology, and build relevance to the concept.

Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in the pressing need for universities to align with Learning Process Standards, which mandate the development of teaching materials grounded in research findings. Such materials are crucial for nurturing highly skilled and competent graduates in various fields. Specifically, the creation of STEM-based E-Modules in freshwater fisheries courses is vital for equipping biology students with 21st-century skills. These skills are essential for applying scientific knowledge to real-life scenarios and for generating societal benefits through innovative products. The research method used is Research and Development design, using the PPE model, namely Planning, Production, and Evaluation. Data collection using expert team validation sheets and questionnaire sheets. Data analysis uses Miles and Hubermann analysis to analyze expert validation data. The results of validation by validators in the STEM-based freshwater fisheries E-Module include assessment results from media experts showing assessment results of 83% (very feasible) and assessment results from STEM content experts of 81% (very feasible). The results of the questionnaire by lecturers showed an average score of 83% (practical) and the results of questionnaires by students show an average score of 80% (practical).  Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the developed STEM-Based E-Modules on Freshwater Fisheries can facilitate students to practice 21st century skills.

Abstract

Farmers in Kananga Village still use chemical fertilizers, this has led to farmers' dependence on chemical fertilizers. Farmers can make their own organic fertilizer, but farmers introduce time for the composting process to the materials that will be used as organic fertilizer. Farmers need technology that can accelerate the process of composting organic matter, and farmers also need to know the effect of chemical fertilizers on reducing soil fertility. Therefore, there is a need for community service activities that train and assist farmers to use organic fertilizer switching, and introduce Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4) technology in making fertilizer or EM4 in agriculture. EM4 is a technology for cultivating a mixture of microorganisms suitable for plant growth in agriculture. These microorganisms are bacteria that can be grown independently by the community, especially farmers in Kananga Village. This PkM activity is designed as an effort to reduce farmers' dependence on chemical fertilizers and invites farmers to use EM4 technology in making fertilizers. The results of this PkM also hope to make the community in Kananga Village more independent by being able to produce their own agricultural products in order to increase the competitiveness of the village. In addition, the PkM training and mentoring program is the commitment of the University of Kuningan in improving community empowerment. Abstrak Petani di Desa Kananga masih menggunkan pupuk kimia, hal ini menimbulkan kergantungan petani terhadap pupuk kimia. Petani dapat membuat pupuk organic sendiri, namun petani mengeluhkan lamanya waktu untuk proses pengomposan pada bahan bahan yang akan dijadikan pupuk organic. Petani perlu teknologi yang dapat mempercepat proses pengomposan bahan organic, dan petani juga perlu mengetahui dampak yang akan ditimbulkan dari pupuk kimia bisa merusak kesuburan tanah. Oleh karena itu kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang melatih dan mendampingi petani agar beralih menggunakan pupuk organic, serta mengenalkan teknologi Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4) dalam membuat pupuk ataupun EM4 dalam pertanian. EM4 ini merupakan teknologi dalam mengkultur campuran dari mikroorganisme yang menguntungkan untuk pertumbuhan tanaman dalam usaha pertanian. Mikkroorganisme tersebut merupakan bakteri-bakteri yang dapat dibibit secara mandiri oleh masyarakat khusunya para petani di Desa Kananga. Kegiatan PkM ini merupakan upaya menghilangkan ketergantungan petani terhadap pupuk kimia serta mengajak petani untuk menggunakan teknologi EM4 dalam membuat pupuknya. Hasil PkM ini juga berharap dapat menjadikan masyarakat di Desa Kananga menjadi semakin mandiri dengan mampu menghasilkan produk pertanian sendiri guna meningkatkan daya saing Desa. Program PkM ini melatih dan mendampingi masyarakat merupakan Visi Universitas Kuningan kearah pemberdayaan masyarakat.

Abstract

Oyster mushrooms have many positive benefits, namely lowering cholesterol, as antibacterial and antitumor, and can produce hydrolysis enzymes and oxidation enzymes. Mushrooms have the characteristics of being quickly damaged and rotten if they are not handled quickly and appropriately, so that processing techniques are needed that are fast, precise, and easy to apply and have an increasing economic value. Most of the residents have received training in mushroom cultivation techniques and formed a group of farmers in the field of oyster mushroom cultivation. The harvest of oyster mushrooms produced in large quantities is only processed into food and sold in the market on demand. However, the amount of demand is not balanced with the mushroom production which is quite abundant. Based on these problems, a training service activity was carried out to process post-harvest mushrooms into mushroom nuggets, crispy mushrooms and mushroom sausages. In addition, instructions on attractive and economical packaging techniques and online marketing techniques are also given so that products can be more easily recognized and marketed to the wider community. Where the hope is to create new business opportunities for villagers so that they can improve the economy of Tenjolayar Village, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Abstrak Jamur tiram memiliki banyak manfaat positif bagi kesehatan, yaitu menurunkan kolesterol, sebagai antibakterial dan antitumor, serta dapat menghasilkan enzim hidrolisis dan enzim oksidasi. Jamur memiliki karakteristik cepat mengalami kerusakan dan kebusukan jika tidak segera ditangani dengan cepat dan tepat, sehingga diperlukan Teknik pengolahan jamur tiram dengan cepat, tepat, dan mudah diaplikasikan serta memiliki dampak untuk meningkatkan nilai ekonomi. Berdasarkan hasil observasi sebagian besar warga telah mendapatkan pelatihan Teknik budidaya jamur dan terbentuk kelompok petani di bidang budidaya jamur tiram. Hasil panen jamur tiram yang dihasilkan dari beberapa rumah tangga yang membudidayakan jamur tiram dalam jumlah besar hanya diolah menjadi masakan serta dijual di pasar sesuai permintaan. Namun jumlah permintaan tidak seimbang dengan produksi jamur yang cukup melimpah. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut maka dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian pelatihan mengolah jamur pasca panen menjadi nuget jamur, jamur krispy dan sosis jamur yang mempunyai nilai ekonomi tinggi serta mudah pengolahannya. Selain itu juga diberikan pengarahan teknik pengemasan yang menarik dan ekonomis serta teknik pemasaran online agar produk dapat lebih mudah dikenal dan dipasarkan ke masyarakat luas. Dimana harapannya adalah menciptakan peluang usaha baru bagi warga desa sehingga dapat meningkatkan perekonomian warga DesaTenjolayar terutama di masa pandemic Covid-19.

Abstract

Keterbatasan fasilitas laboratorium Biologi dan rendahnya keterampilan penggunaan mikroskop menjadi permasalahan utama dalam pembelajaran biologi di SMA Ciwaru. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi praktikum biologi siswa melalui pelatihan penggunaan mikroskop yang sistematis dan aplikatif. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif-kolaboratif melalui empat tahapan: sosialisasi, pelatihan, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Peserta kegiatan adalah 30 siswa kelas XI dan 1 guru biologi SMAN Ciwaru. Pelatihan mencakup pengenalan bagian mikroskop, teknik pengamatan dan pengaturan fokus, pembuatan preparat, serta mini project observasi mikroskopik. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada keterampilan siswa: kemampuan mengatur fokus meningkat dari 17% menjadi 87%, dan kemampuan membuat preparat meningkat dari 20% menjadi 83%. Evaluasi melalui kuesioner menunjukkan 93% siswa menyatakan pelatihan sangat bermanfaat, 87% merasa lebih termotivasi, dan 90% mengalami peningkatan pemahaman konsep biologi. Program ini juga menghasilkan modul pelatihan sebagai luaran berkelanjutan. Pelatihan terbukti efektif meningkatkan kompetensi praktikum biologi siswa dan memperkuat budaya pembelajaran sains berbasis praktik di sekolah mitra, selaras dengan SDGs tujuan 4 tentang pendidikan berkualitas
