Abstract

The integration of conservation initiatives with tourism development has emerged as an important strategy for promoting sustainable rural development. This study examines how community-based Adopt-a-Tree (AAT) programs are integrated into sustainable agrotourism in Merangin Regency, Indonesia, and how this integration contributes to environmental conservation and local livelihood opportunities. A qualitative case study approach was employed, drawing on data from in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, field observations, and supporting documents related to the implementation of tree adoption programs in Rantau Kermas and Guguk villages. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo 15 to identify patterns and relationships across stakeholder perspectives. The findings indicate that AAT programs function as a community-driven conservation mechanism that supports forest restoration, biodiversity protection, and increased environmental awareness among residents and visitors. The analysis also reveals that stakeholder collaboration, training activities, and local governance support are important for sustaining the implementation of conservation initiatives. In addition, integrating tree adoption with agrotourism creates new livelihood opportunities through eco-tourism services, agroforestry products, and community-based tourism activities. However, several challenges remain, including limited technical capacity, unequal participation opportunities, and constraints in institutional and financial support. Overall, the study demonstrates that AAT programs can serve as an effective model for integrating conservation initiatives with sustainable agrotourism development while supporting inclusive rural livelihoods and long-term environmental stewardship

Abstract

This research aims to analyze: (1) the general characteristics of farmers who convert rubber land to oil palm plantations in Sungai Gelam District, and (2) the economic impact of this land conversion, particularly on farmers’ income. This study uses a quantitative approach with survey data collected from rubber and oil palm farmers. The results show that there are notable differences in farmer characteristics, including capital, labor use, and market access. The average income difference between rubber and oil palm farmers is IDR 2,712,000, indicating higher earnings from oil palm cultivation. Based on the BNT test, with a value of IDR 405,000, the average income difference exceeds the threshold, confirming that the difference is statistically significant. Furthermore, the calculated F value is greater than the F table value, which strengthens the conclusion that there is a significant difference in income between rubber and oil palm farmers. Therefore, land conversion contributes positively to farmers’ income improvement.

Abstract

Regional development disparities remain a major issue in Eastern Indonesia (KTI). Despite possessing significant natural resource potential, economic development across provinces in KTI shows a considerable gap compared to Western Indonesia. This disparity is reflected in differences in income levels, the quality of human resources, local fiscal capacity, and the distribution of investment across regions. This study aims to: (1) analyse the level of inter-provincial regional development inequality in Eastern Indonesia; (2) analyse the level of intra-regional development inequality between districts/cities in Eastern Indonesia; and (3) analyse the influence of the Human Development Index, Fiscal Decentralisation, and Foreign Direct Investment on regional development inequality in Eastern Indonesia. Secondary data for the period 2010–2024 were analysed using multiple linear regression within a panel data framework via the EViews 14 application, with inequality measured using the Williamson Index and the Theil Index. The results of the Williamson Index reveal significant variations in disparity across provinces. Gorontalo falls into the low inequality category, Bali and several provinces in Sulawesi into the moderate category, whilst West Papua and Papua fall into the very high category. The results of the Theil Index show that Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara have the highest levels of intra-regional inequality, whilst Gorontalo and West Sulawesi have relatively low levels. Estimates from the selected Random Effects Model indicate that the HDI has a negative and significant effect on inequality as measured by the Williamson and Theil indices. DESF has a non-significant negative effect in the Williamson model, but a significant positive effect in the Theil model. Furthermore, FDI has a positive and significant effect on inequality as measured by the Williamson and Theil indices

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of regional financial performance and evaluate the financial performance of the Jambi City Government based on four key ratios: the regional financial independence ratio, the degree of fiscal decentralization ratio, the effectiveness ratio of locally generated revenue (PAD), and the regional financial efficiency ratio during the 2011–2024 period. The research employs a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary data sourced from BPKAD the Jambi City Regional Budget (APBD) realization reports. The results show that the development of Jambi City’s regional finances experienced nominal growth, with PAD increasing by 6.23 percent and regional expenditures by 6.24 percent. However, in terms of quality, the region’s financial capacity remains in the low category due to its high dependence on central government transfer funds. In terms of financial performance, the effectiveness ratio of PAD is categorized as very effective in most years. However, the financial efficiency ratio remains in the less efficient category. Meanwhile, the financial independence ratio and the fiscal decentralization ratio indicate that PAD’s contribution to total revenue is still limited, reflecting the low level of fiscal independence in Jambi City. This research suggests the need for policies aimed at strengthening regional fiscal capacity, optimizing PAD collection, and improving the efficiency of regional spending.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the agricultural and industrial sectors affect employment opportunities in the districts/cities of Jambi Province between 2017 and 2024. Data were taken from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and covered the GRDP of the agricultural and industrial sectors, as well as the number of people employed in the agricultural and industrial sectors. The analysis was conducted using a panel data regression method using a Fixed Effects Model. The research findings indicate that both sectors simultaneously have a significant influence on employment opportunities. However, separately, the agricultural sector shows a significant negative effect on employment opportunities, meaning that the increase in GRDP in the agricultural sector is not accompanied by an increase in the number of workers. On the other hand, the industrial sector has a significant positive influence, which shows that industrial development is able to absorb labor in Jambi Province.
